Laptop Battery Decision: Replacement vs Original for Toshiba Satellite L505D-10J & L300-2CL

Mateusz 935 38610 34
Best answers

Should I buy an original or replacement battery for a Toshiba Satellite L505D-10J / L300-2CL, and does a higher-capacity battery last longer?

Buy a reputable original or a proven replacement; in principle, a higher-capacity battery gives longer runtime, but a cheap replacement with a higher mAh rating may still perform like a smaller one or worse if the quality is poor [#14726006][#14726039] Several users say there is no need to overpay for the original if a good replacement is available, especially when it uses cells from the same manufacturers as originals [#14727366][#14744088] Others advise choosing the original when the price difference is small, or at least a well-reviewed brand such as Movano or Green Cell [#14755271][#14727416][#14744088] One user reports a 6600mAh Green Cell lasting longer than the original 5200mAh battery, while warning that the original is not always better and battery life depends on the actual cells [#14744088] If you can, regeneration with new higher-capacity cells and a reset of the electronics can also work well, but only if done properly by someone competent [#14727416][#14727742]

Hello. I am thinking about buying a laptop battery, but I do not know whether to choose a replacement or an original. The differences are only in the price of the replacement, of course, cheaper, the warranty covers the same period and the battery capacity is also the same.
How is it with the battery capacity, will I feel any difference if I buy batteries with a larger capacity.
It is a battery for the Toshiba Satellite L505D-10J and the Toshiba Satellite L300-2CL

More capacity = longer battery life.
If the convertible is not suspiciously cheap, you could be interested in it.

A replacement is always a replacement I do not recommend replacements, be it a battery or a printer ink. I advise the original to buy.

    The difference is PLN 100-120.
It is said that a replacement with a larger capacity may perform as much as the original battery with a lower capacity or even less.

    Added after 4 [minutes]:

Replacement for the replacement I have already used the replacement for over two years but in a different laptop. Though the price was not that different.

Sometimes you can get the original cheaper than the replacement. But each offer must be approached individually.

Both batteries have a one-year warranty, so the original one can also work for a year, and I have two replacements for the price of the original. How many users, so many opinions.

Exactly. Replacements are now often made on the cells of the same manufacturers as the originals, so there is no point in overpaying.

We do not "buy" the battery because it is guaranteed just to keep it working. Another thing is that if you have a laptop for a few thousand, buying the original one is not so stressful. You can take the risk in the old one ... There are good substitutes that have been proven.

The eternal problem of price and quality. The choice is up to what pays.

A replacement for a good company such as "Movano". I recommend regenerating the old one. Of course, it has to be done by a person who has the idea and the equipment for it.

I gave a person from this forum for regeneration. The cells were replaced with those with a higher capacity, the electronics reset, and the introduction of new capacity data. The battery is over 2 years old and still in great shape.

I personally also had to replace the batteries in my laptop. Original PLN 300, regeneration PLN 150 + shipping, replacement PLN 99. I bought green cell batteries with a capacity of 6600mAh. The original one had 5200 mAh. The battery works great. The laptop works longer on it than on the original battery. During use, i.e. the internet, spreadsheets, etc., it drops by about 8-10% for 30 minutes of work depending on the load.
    Battery care data:
    Factory capacity - 71280mWh
    Total capacity - 70492mWh

Also, in my opinion, there is no need to overpay for original batteries. the more that the original is often not a great product. My original battery lasted 8 months with proper use.

An original battery does not have to be expensive. Of course, in the company store it will be like that .. You write about the original noname battery (enter the brand of the laptop) and give the name of the replacement.

For example, I have dell laptops and I have never paid (4 for different models) more for the original batteries than for 'good replacements'. Such batteries, with proper use, will last for 2-3 years ... or even longer. You can estimate with "good winds" what is the annual cost.
Maybe I don't know each other, but all batteries look the same .. only in practice it will turn out if the purchase was successful. 'Orginalna' appeals to me a bit more ..

The fact is that it is easier to get cheaper batteries for old models. Shops often (unfortunately) hold a high price. The substitutes are from flooding ..

But maybe the forum could make a list of proven substitutes ..? Of course, we are talking about users who have bought and used, not those who want to advertise and sell them. ;)

My ASUS x53t laptop. The price of the battery is PLN 300 with shipping. Unfortunately, my original collapsed very quickly. 8 months and the battery lasted 6 minutes after disconnecting the power. At his sister's lenovo, he works for almost 2 years and still keeps his laptop on almost all the time with the battery inserted.

I will also throw in my three cents in the topic of replacements. I bought a replacement with increased capacity for the old thinkpad T41. Laptop survivor ;)
From my own experience, I can say that you have to reckon with the fact that you can come across a low-quality counterfeit (even signed with the original logo). The subject of the guarantee when shopping on Allegro is a lottery; because why wouldn't the salesperson be able to terminate the company after some successful sales? In addition, the topic of the return, who bears the costs, waiting, discussions about whether it is the fault of the product or use ...
When buying, follow the description and if you find the fragment 'low price is the result of direct cooperation with the manufacturer' then CTRL-W and you are looking for further ;) . There is no need to believe in exaggerated capacity, if a battery with standard dimensions has twice the capacity, then look further.

    Reason is your best advisor.
The power supply is a different brooch, only the original here.

hehe, and here someone is writing about the purchased replacement. In short, he will write that the original one gave up its spirit after 3-4 years. And with the replacement, there are surprises at the beginning.

Unfortunately, the replacement is not equal to the replacement. There are replacements for my laptop for PLN 50 and PLN 100. Which do you think will be better? For me, the original, as I wrote, died after 8 months and the battery was installed only when I was not sitting at the desk. When the laptop was used at the desk, the battery was removed.

If you write what this model is, maybe a few people will not cut it. Because if it was used as you write, at least for me it is a defect and I would not buy the original. Of course, in this case, I would probably also sell my laptop. There is also the question of the power supply (premium laptops have two or even three battery charging modes) ...

I have been testing this battery for 3 months in my laptop and it works fine. I don't know, but some people are crazy about original things because they're supposed to be better than substitutes. In many cases it may be so, but not always. I personally think that buying an original battery worth PLN 300, where a laptop is worth maybe a thousand, is throwing money down the drain and you have to be an idiot not to understand it ...

    Yes I agree.

ps I just checked how much I bought the original batteries ..
    dell d630 6-chamber about PLN 137
    dell studio 1537 6-chamber 88 PLN
dell e6400 9-chamber (used 9% of consumption) about PLN 75, the old one resold (45% of consumption) for PLN 30

It is because it is still a "brand" battery. Speech in posts with two categories: original and replacement. We can add another "category" but how many people will buy the used replacement :) ??

Before I bought, I checked each of the batteries, the prices of new-brand and replacements .. It is not difficult to buy an expensive battery (unless someone can afford it and likes to sponsor other holidays). Since we are writing about replacements that are cheaper, why not take into account original-used batteries. Of course, not every one will be suitable, because some sellers like to give general information about the battery status (or they do not know it themselves) .. so you can expect lotteries in these cases.

An example for the e6400, the new one costs in the range of PLN 350-600 with VAT (range from three randomly selected sides). PLN 75 for a used one is a lot, especially since I resold the "old" one?

Where to buy cheap ?? The search engine bows and online auctions. Unfortunately, dealers will be happy because you can't buy more. A private person will always find something. And if you do not have time to look, the "expensive" ones or replacements are left.

And do you know that these cheap, little-used batteries from private individuals are usually batteries that should be disposed of or returned to the manufacturer because they were replaced by the manufacturer as part of the exchange of dangerous series? They get a new one, checked from the manufacturer, and the old one is sold on Allegro ...
So the claim that you bought the original battery for 30-40% of its normal price is out of place.

FAQ

TL;DR: 6600 mAh aftermarket packs provide roughly 27 % more charge than the 5200 mAh originals; “More capacity = longer battery life.” [Elektroda, sosarek, #14726006; hudy8, #14744088] Why it matters: The right choice balances runtime, cost and safety for ageing Toshiba Satellites.

Quick Facts

• OEM capacity: approx. 4400 mAh / 48 Wh [Elektroda, Mateusz 935, post #14755271] • Popular upgrade: 6600 mAh replacement adds ≈2 hours of light use [Elektroda, hudy8, post #14744088] • Price range—Original: PLN 300; Replacement: PLN 99–150; Regeneration: PLN 150 + shipping [Elektroda, hudy8, post #14744088] • Typical warranty: 6–12 months for both OEM and reputable third-party cells [Elektroda, Mateusz 935, post #14727255] • Power-supply rule: Adapter current (A) must meet or exceed laptop label (6.3 A) [Elektroda, slawmix1234, post #14756024]

Will a 6600 mAh battery actually run longer than a 4400 mAh pack?

Yes. Capacity in milliamp-hours scales almost linearly with runtime. A 6600 mAh unit holds about 50 % more charge than 4400 mAh, giving roughly 1.5× longer use under the same load. One user reported only 8-10 % drop per 30 minutes of web work with a 6600 mAh Green Cell pack [Elektroda, hudy8, post #14744088]

Are aftermarket batteries safe for Toshiba Satellite L505D-10J and L300-2CL?

Quality varies. Packs from brands such as Movano, Mitsu and Green Cell use cells from the same makers that supply OEM vendors [Elektroda, miecho18, post #14727366] Choose sellers that list cell brand, provide 12-month warranty, and include CE/ROHS markings. Avoid offers claiming “twice the capacity” in the same housing—they are often counterfeits [Elektroda, lis6502, post #14745306]

What warranty should I expect?

Toshiba grants 6–12 months on batteries; several sellers match that on replacements [Elektroda, Mateusz 935, post #14727255] Always confirm coverage length and who pays return shipping before purchase.

Does a higher-capacity battery harm the laptop?

No. The laptop draws what it needs; larger capacity only extends runtime. Voltage must stay identical (10.8 V or 11.1 V for these models). "Capacity doesn’t change charger stress; voltage does." [Elektroda, sosarek, post #14726006]

What current rating should my AC adapter have?

Match voltage (19 V) and ensure the adapter’s current equals or exceeds the laptop label. The Satellite asks for 6.3 A; using a 3.42 A brick risks shutdowns and overheating [Elektroda, slawmix1234, post #14756024]

How can I spot a counterfeit battery quickly?

  1. Check packaging: typos or missing holograms are red flags.
  2. Compare weight; fakes weigh noticeably less due to fewer cells.
  3. Read smart-battery data with software—grossly inflated designed-capacity values indicate tampering [Elektroda, lis6502, post #14745306] "Reason is your best advisor." [Elektroda, lis6502, post #14745306]

Should I remove the battery when the laptop sits on AC power?

Removing the pack during long desk sessions reduces heat exposure and slows wear. Li-ion degradation accelerates above 40 °C [Battery University, 2023]. Several users kept spare batteries off the laptop when docked [Elektroda, hudy8, post #14744995]

Are used OEM batteries a smart buy?

They are cheap but risky. Some originate from manufacturer recall programs and may contain safety defects [Elektroda, speedy9, post #14749645] Unless you can test remaining capacity and cycle count on arrival, new replacements give better value.

How do I test a new battery right after purchase?

  1. Fully charge, then run the laptop on balanced mode until 10 %.
  2. Note elapsed time and compare to spec (e.g., 3 h for 4400 mAh).
  3. Run a battery report (Windows: powercfg /batteryreport) to confirm designed vs. full charge capacity matches label. Any 20 % discrepancy merits a warranty claim [Elektroda, piotr.solek, post #14747001]

What if my replacement fails within warranty?

Contact the seller immediately, provide battery report screenshots, and request RMA. Keep original packaging. Polish consumer law requires a 14-day defect report window and a 1-year implied warranty on electronics [UOKiK, 2023]. Edge case: some marketplace sellers vanish; buy from VAT-registered stores to ensure service [Elektroda, lis6502, post #14745306]
