    Hello,
I am interested in the diameters of holes to be drilled for wood screws (the pointed ones) in a 18mm furniture board - screws with an outer diameter of 4mm, the screws will be screwed in perpendicularly and parallel to the edge of the board. You can do without drilling, but you don't want to do it.

From my practice: Take a caliper. Measure the screw between the turns. This will be the diameter of the hole.

For my eye, a drill with a diameter of about 2.5 mm will be a good one.

So much so that when it comes to joining two boards at right angles, I don't mean something like that ...

    These are not confirmatory drills.

In summary, you can take the diameter of the screw core, but it is best to do a few tests, a lot also depends on the place of screwing, i.e. in the edge of the board or in the forehead, distance from the edge, tightening force and length of the screw.
