Hello. I have a Craftmen hammer. After drilling a few holes with a new drill bit in the concrete ceiling, I cannot get it out of the holder. The housing at the end of the chuck moves down, the drill bit moves slightly but does not come out of the chuck. Any ideas for removing the drill?

Something like this has happened to me more than once. You have to unlock (lock down) and pull. If it doesn't go, pull harder.

As above and regular lubrication of the handle - apart from the fact that the drills are not burr, it often causes problems with inserting the drill bit.

Sand and dust trickled inside. Knock on e.g. a hammer when the lock is disengaged, rinse out the siphon with grease, remove the drill bit, clean it, apply new grease and use it. When the cover is perforated or absent, put a paper with a hole on the drill as a cover.

The cover is operational. He pulls back. I tried by force and nothing. Rinsing the handle did not help. I'm afraid the tip of the drill bit may have dug gently in the chuck. I will try to rinse and lubricate because maybe the balls are blocked. I'll let you know what helped.

Take the drill bit with a vice and use a mallet to hit the handle. If the tip is broken - demolition as in my topic https://www.elektroda.pl/rtvforum/topic1897323.html If the drill is damaged - a blow. Do not write that the cover is in working order, since you spilled shit, the patent with the paper works very well when drilling up.

Thanks for the advice. As Alemucha advised, the drill went into a vice and I bounced the handle. It turned out that the drill was of poor quality, because in the place where the balls were working, the drill was slightly unfolded and it increased its diameter, which caused problems with removing the drill. Now everything works after cleaning and relubricating. Regards.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around the issue of a stuck drill bit in a Craftsman hammer's SDS chuck after drilling into concrete. Users suggest various methods for removal, including unlocking the chuck and applying force, using lubrication to ease the bit's release, and cleaning out debris that may be causing the jam. One user successfully resolved the issue by securing the drill bit in a vice and striking the handle with a mallet, discovering that the drill bit had expanded due to poor quality, which contributed to the problem. After cleaning and relubricating, the drill functioned properly again.
