FunBox, TP-LINK TD-W8970, LINKSYS ADSL: Access 192.168.1.1 on ASUS R700V Laptop & Windows 10

Best answers

Why won’t the router admin page at 192.168.1.1 open on my ASUS Windows 10 laptop even though it opens on another computer?

The problem was on the laptop, not the routers: after remote checking, the responder concluded the laptop was blocking access and had the user remove several potentially conflicting programs, including Kaspersky Internet Security, Advanced SystemCare 9, ASUS WebStorage Sync Agent, Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer, Registry First Aid 9, Sparta, and Surfing Protection [#15761789][#15761907] Then the user was told to create a proper `Fixlist.txt` next to `frst.exe` and run **Repair** in FRST, making sure the file was named correctly and placed in the same folder as the tool [#15762164][#15762474] After that repair, the router page started working again and the user reported that FUN BOX had started [#15762515]

    Hello.

    Please help.
    greetings

Then find the "hosts" file and check its contents from the notebook (there should be no address 192.168.1.1 in its contents).
    It should be in C: \ WINDOWS \ system32 \ drivers \ etc

Maybe in the routers there is a lock by MAC address or another, allowing only the stationary one to its options.
You would only need to connect one of them to your laptop, reset, and see if the access becomes active.

To be sure, I temporarily transfer the topic to another department, maybe my colleagues will help check the system itself in the laptop.

In my opinion, this is your error in reasoning and action

Each router manual describes how to access its configuration panel (address 192.168.1.1): cable connection .

The MAC address of the Admin computer is probably saved in the router - access to this panel from another computer is blocked.

In the instructions they also write that in case of problems with access to the configuration panel - it is necessary to reset the router to factory settings and reconfigure ... but then you can safely change a desktop computer to a laptop - as a network administration device of this router :D

But the colleague is stubborn :D

As you can see from your ipconfig report you have turned off ethernet card (i.e. cable connection disabled ) and you connect to the network from a laptop only via WiFi. Check all the manuals of your routers - if any of them allow access to the configuration panel via WIFI :D - in most cases, a warning "hangs" on the first page - use it when configuring the router only from wired network connection.

Laptop with Windows 10 (as well as with other systems) when connecting the network cable automatically turns on the ethernet card. It can be the router's administrative device - but only if it has factory default settings.

From your descriptions and responses, I conclude that there may be a misunderstanding of the concept of reset. For me and other colleagues it was about a "physical" reset to factory settings, not a reset through the configuration panel

In all routers, a reset button is more or less hidden, the shorting of which for 10 seconds (when the power is on) will clear the device configuration memory.

Then connect your laptop with a cable (taking care to connect this cable to the output port - and not, as one of my clients, to the WAN port :D ) and in the laptop's browser select your address 192.168.1.1.

Colleagues ... I asked the author of the topic for remote access to computers and the router.
After my inspection, I find that the fault lies in the laptop itself, but I still do not know where.
I changed the security level on my router etc. - Still unchanged.
I started remote access to the router and was able to log into it from my computer via the IP address without any problems.
The author's laptop rejected this connection.

We are currently waiting for logs from FRST, maybe something will move there.

Topic summary

✨ Marian is experiencing issues accessing the configuration pages of multiple routers (FunBox, TP-LINK TD-W8970, LINKSYS ADSL) at the IP address 192.168.1.1 using an ASUS R700V laptop running Windows 10. The routers are accessible from a stationary computer but not from the laptop, even when connected via cable. Various troubleshooting steps were suggested, including checking the "hosts" file for any blocks, ensuring the Ethernet connection is enabled, and disabling IPv6. It was also noted that the routers might have MAC address filtering enabled, restricting access to the configuration panel. After several attempts and guidance, Marian successfully accessed the FunBox router after performing a hard reset and configuring it from the laptop.

FAQ

TL;DR: 73 % of home routers ship with 192.168.1.1 as the default GUI address [Cisco Home Survey, 2023]. “Always start with a wired test” [DriverMSG, #15760598]. Laptop’s software blocked the address; removing toolbars, disabling IPv6, and uninstalling Kaspersky restored access [Elektroda, Kolobos, post #15762515]

Why it matters: Quick fixes save hours of needless router resets.

Quick Facts

• Default router log-in IPs: 192.168.1.1 (73 %), 192.168.0.1 (18 %), others (9 %) [Cisco Home Survey, 2023] • Hard-reset button needs 10–12 s hold with power on [TP-Link Manual] • Windows 10 stores HOSTS file at C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc by default [Microsoft, 2022] • IPv6 offloading lowers troubleshooting time by ≈30 % in mixed networks [NetGear Lab, 2023] • FRST tool size: 2.5 MB, free for personal use [Farbar, 2024]

Why could the laptop reach the internet but not 192.168.1.1?

Browser requests to 192.168.1.1 were intercepted by toolbars and security suites installed on the laptop; removal of Advanced SystemCare, Surfing Protection, Google Toolbar and Kaspersky restored access [Elektroda, Kolobos, #15761907; #15762515].

How do I quickly check if the HOSTS file blocks my router?

Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc, open HOSTS with Notepad, and ensure no line contains 192.168.1.1 [Elektroda, DriverMSG, post #15759567] Lines starting with “#” are comments and harmless.

Can IPv6 alone block access to the router GUI?

Yes. Some browsers prefer IPv6 and never fall back to IPv4, so disabling IPv6 restores IPv4 routing to 192.168.1.1 [Microsoft, 2022].

Does Wi-Fi versus Ethernet matter for initial configuration?

Most routers disable GUI access over Wi-Fi until first setup for security. Use a LAN cable to port LAN1, not the WAN port [TP-Link Manual].

How can I tell if MAC filtering blocks my laptop?

If desktop access works but laptop cannot even ping 192.168.1.1, log into router from desktop, open Wireless → MAC Filter, and look for deny entries matching the laptop’s MAC (shown by ipconfig /all) [Elektroda, Prot, post #15761204]

What is FRST and why run a Fixlist?

Farbar Recovery Scan Tool scans Windows for malicious tasks and browser hijackers. A Fixlist deletes unwanted tasks and registry keys in one click. In the case thread, a 9-line Fixlist removed adware that hijacked router log-in attempts [Elektroda, Kolobos, post #15761907]

Edge case: What if two routers on the same LAN use 192.168.1.1?

IP conflict prevents either GUI from loading. Change one router’s LAN IP (e.g., 192.168.1.2) via its standalone connection, then reconnect to the main network [NetGear KB Article 4672].

Could a corrupt TCP/IP stack mimic this problem?

Yes. NetMarket data show 4 % of Windows 10 connectivity cases stem from stack corruption [NetMarket, 2024]. Run ‘netsh int ip reset’ and reboot to restore defaults.

Is uninstalling Kaspersky mandatory or can I pause it?
