The display shows nothing? Entering service mode is done by turning the balance fully to the left, holding pure direct and pressing the switch with the equipment turned off. Later, you should release the buttons immediately, when the equipment turns off immediately, it means that something is damaged and you should not hold the buttons any longer because it will bypass the security and something may go up in smoke. If the equipment turns on, please specify what will be displayed immediately after entering the service mode. To exit the service mode, turn off the equipment.

The microprocessor detects disturbances in internal supply voltages. It is possible that some power surge (in the outlet) caused this problem. If the equipment works, you can use it. If the situation repeats, the service or warranty remains.

Topic summary

The Yamaha R-840 receiver experienced a malfunction where the power light blinks green and the display shows no information. A suggested troubleshooting method involves entering service mode by turning the balance fully left, holding the "pure direct" button, and pressing the power switch while the device is off. If the device turns on, the displayed code (e.g., PS2 0093) can indicate the issue. The problem may stem from disturbances in internal supply voltages, possibly due to a power surge. If the device is operational, it can be used, but repeated issues may require service or warranty intervention. To exit service mode, simply turn off the device and then switch it back on.
