    Hello,
    engine brake in 2006 car not working:
    Volvo FH12 42D460;
    Ishift automatic transmission (P / N VO 3190238);
    D12D motor.

    For several months there have been problems with the engine brake, which did not always work. No reaction since yesterday.
    Brake operated control handle on the right side of the steering wheel.

    I don't know where to start and I ask for help

    Error code:
    MID 128 - PPID 124, FMI 5

    Replace the gas pressure regulating valve? It seems to me that this is a valve below the starter. Can you check it somehow before replacing? I am asking for help.

    I put a picture of the valve

    From what I remember, it can be disassembled completely. In the middle you have a coil with an electromagnet, you can measure it and some electronic board. Coil to remove it you knock out 2 thin pins, 4mm diameter.

    I installed a valve from another tractor that is not running and is designed for a short turn (surprisingly the valve from FH was the same as in FH12). The error displayed by the computer MID 128 - PPID 124, FMI 5 has disappeared. The failure message stopped showing, but although the A 1 2 3 B brake engagement degrees are displayed on the cockpit, the brake still does not work.

    From what I searched on the Internet, it results from FMI 5 it was an electrical failure. There is no message now. Has anyone encountered a similar case? Please help.

    As citromaniak wrote, it is possible to dismantle the valve, but I understand that if the error is not displayed, it is not the fault of the valve, so for now I will not combine.

    I also replaced a part of the engine brake from the old tractor, which is located at the turbine. Photo of a similar device:

    Inside this apparatus is a mushroom valve. To be sure, I started the valve a bit, but nothing has changed. The brake does not work. Does anyone have any idea what could fail ??

    The brake works. I have no idea what caused the failure, whether the mushroom valve closing the air line or the solenoid. I suppose it was an electromagnet. I disconnected the battery overnight and the next day the brake started working.
    Is it possible that the disconnection of the battery caused the new (used) solenoid to work properly?

    You absolutely have to check the old valve as you want to know what it was. In case of poor contact, there is an option that such a complete disconnection of the power supply will result in a change in symptoms. What some people often do (which I don't like) think this is "resetting error". They do not know that it is a long-term degradation process of electrochemical corrosion. One of the conditions for generating the code is the valve voltage in the range of 30% -60% of the battery voltage. And it is understood that it is neither short circuit nor break. It is powered directly from the F41 fuse and keyed from the computer.

    Now I can add that it can simply be a coil. I don't know if this applies to its specific implementation. He gets a break in himself without any logical explanation and that's it.

    I was able to find some free time to dismantle the valve. It probably stopped working due to damage to the electronic board in the valve. Damage to transistors can be seen with the naked eye. Thank you all for your help and I close the topic

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around a malfunctioning engine brake in a 2006 Volvo FH12 42D460 equipped with a D12D engine and iShift automatic transmission (P/N VO 3190238). The user reported intermittent issues with the engine brake, which ceased to function entirely. Error code MID 128 - PPID 124, FMI 5 was identified, suggesting an electrical failure. Various components were examined, including the gas pressure regulating valve and a mushroom valve located at the turbine. After replacing the gas pressure regulating valve, the error code disappeared, but the brake remained non-functional. Eventually, disconnecting the battery overnight led to the brake working again, indicating potential issues with the solenoid or electronic board within the valve. The user later discovered visible damage to the electronic board of the valve, which likely caused the initial failure.
