    Hello.
I have a problem with the new disk, namely it often carries out parking of the head, even several times a minute. I have the computer under my desk, without the possibility of overturning it or any shocks. I would like to reduce the frequency of parking or turn it off completely. I have Windows 10, but nowhere can I find instructions on how to disable the parking of the head. The drive model is Seagate Barracuda ST31000340NS.

    This is normal under Windows.
Prepare to replace the drive as it won't take long.

It's one thing to change the power plan on your system.

The second is, for example, in the CrystalDiskInfo program, in APM options, change the mode to performance.

I don't know why, but in Crystal DiskInfo I can't edit the APM tab.

    Yes, it is completely inactive.

In HDDscan I also can't change APM, "Advanced Power Management" tab is not supported, so you cannot change settings, AAM tab is also not supported.

In the linked topic you have some solutions.

PS. You can search as well as we do - just use Google. Maybe in this model there is a firmware lock regarding interference with APM settings.

The HDparm program also did not change anything, I downloaded CrystalDiskInfo and I managed to change the APM values to 255 but it did not help, the same setting to 254.

    Added after 42 [minutes]:

I am throwing a screenshot from the HDtune program here, maybe it will tell you something, and besides, I do not know why it does not show me the number of parking in any program Load / Unload cycle count

SMART is OK and won't help.

As for the second question, what I wrote earlier, the disk firmware probably does not support this option.

So there's nothing you can do about it? I have the latest firmware. As for parking the disk, it does not bother me very much, at most it will be the disk, I have 3 years warranty, which at this frequency is unlikely to survive; (

Just parking the heads is not a problem - unless it interferes with the use of the computer.

It doesn't cause any problem, the disc works fine except for the sound that I am already used to.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around the frequent head parking issue of the Seagate Barracuda ST31000340NS hard drive in Windows 10. Users express concerns about the drive parking its heads multiple times per minute, seeking ways to reduce or disable this feature. Suggestions include adjusting power settings in Windows and using the CrystalDiskInfo software to modify Advanced Power Management (APM) settings. However, some users report being unable to edit APM settings in CrystalDiskInfo and other tools like HDDScan and HDparm, indicating potential firmware restrictions. Despite the frequent parking, some users note that it does not significantly impact performance, although they worry about the long-term durability of the drive under warranty.
