    Hello all
I place this post because I have no experience in this topic and I do not know which solution will be better.
Last year, I purchased a plot with a wooden gazebo whose walls are covered with boards such as paneling. Everything would be ok if the previous owner did not paint them with oil paint that is already beginning to peel and looks poor. Therefore, in the spring I want to sand it all (preferably to clean wood) and paint it with some wood preservative. My question is what is the best way to remove this old paint with an angle grinder (speed-controlled flexo) with an abrasive paper disc or an eccentric sander. I do not know what will be better because I have flex and eccentric I would have to buy. I have an ordinary orbital sander but it grinds wood very slowly and at this rate it will go down to the second winter.

    I am asking for advice
    Thank you

If there is a thick layer of this paint, it is best to burn this paint with a heat gun and then sand with a grinder, otherwise it will last for a long time. Sunbathing is done by heating the paint until soft and removing it with a spatula.

but I have a grinding wheel for sticking Velcro (you can also put it on a drill). And as for the shield you gave, I don't know if it will scratch the wood.

    Use a belt sander.

I saw a belt grinder in operation and it grinds nicely and quickly but it is large and heavy (at least I had to do it) and if I have to sand the entire walls and ceiling on the terrace, I think my hands will fall off. That's why I thought about the abovementioned grinders, but I don't know which would be better. I sanded wooden beams with rotten wood and cleaned it nicely, but I don't know how it will do with paint and work with it is not very precise. I do not know how the case is with the eccentric because I have never seen her work live and the movies on the net show differently and I would have to buy it and my flex is in stock. If someone did eccentric and can recommend it for such work, please let me know.

Flexem you will make grooves, the eccentric is better but slow - with the same 60 pnematic orbital sander 150mm collects with 3 times slower than a decent belt.

OK thanks for the information. I guess I'll have to consider this belt sander. I thought that eccentric because it turns like flex (only a little slower) it will also do well (and it is small and probably light) but if you say that it is also slow it is ok

I advise against the eccentric sander, its service life is really short.
You won't do half the work and it will fall apart, at least mine did.

Belt sander, first about 60 paper, then about 150 - simple, safe and fast.

I recommend Bondex universal remover. It is a can of gel about 0.8 l. You wait some time and scrape with a scraper. It goes down very easily to the wood itself. The paint swells under the influence of the gel. A can costs about PLN 50.

Yes, sure, but then it's hard to paint something :)

After scraping, I sanded with a wire brush on the flex. The surface is perfectly clean, it can be impregnated.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around the best method for removing old oil paint from wooden panels in a gazebo. Users suggest various tools and techniques, including using a heat gun to soften the paint before sanding, employing paint grinding wheels, and considering a belt sander for efficiency. While some recommend the eccentric sander for its precision, others caution about its durability and slower performance compared to a belt sander. The use of chemical paint removers, such as Bondex universal remover, is also mentioned as an effective alternative. Overall, the consensus leans towards using a belt sander for faster and more effective paint removal, followed by finer sanding for a smooth finish.
