    Hello you
I am taking care of my house renovation. I have half an old communist paneling on the wall. It is a slippery surface on one side (painted with varnish) and rough.
I wonder what to do with it, because it's definitely not a spatula. :) I see that on the Internet they write about orbital and eccentric grinders. A friend advised me oscillating, but on the net from what I see it is more suitable for wood. Nobody heard about the eccentric. They write about eccentric grinders that there are two types:
    - Eccentric grinders with unforced movement (speed depends on pressure).
    - Eccentric sanders with forced movement (pressure force does not affect speed).

Help me choose something to strip the paneling. Something for personal use. And that it would also be universal, that if I want to reach gypsum plaster it will also be as found.

Paneling is surely painted with oil paint, so any high-speed sander will stick sandpaper. Other slow speeds will require a lot of time to sand the walls.
Personally, I treat this type of wall with an angle grinder with a wire brush, and put a smooth coat or other light plasters.

Where have I heard this? Kitchen - oil paint, bathroom and toilet the same. And now to work. I used an angle grinder with a concrete grinding head mounted on its mandrel. I assure colleagues, nothing is better. However, the cover must be removed from the angle. The head is a disk with a threaded hole on which are grooves for discharging spoil and the remaining surface is sprayed with very hard material. Well, the walls were already taken care of, but the door frames still need to be removed, and this is a huge slab. I didn't use the hammer but only applied my brother's patent. In the middle of the door frame on both sides in the concrete adjacent to the door frame, I drilled two holes and then I put two hooks of the chain hoist in these holes and pulled both parts of the door frame with the hoist without using an angle grinder.

Oil can be tan, the fact smells a bit, but you can deal with it, grinding without extraction is also harmful dust. Personally, the electric heat gun was too inefficient for me, I used a roofing felt burner plus this unwanted spatula ;) quickly and efficiently ;)

Yes. This is the head presented by a colleague above. I carried out a test with a heat gun. I will say sneeze. Also, an orbital sander with 40 grit sandpaper did not pass the test. Only the angle grinder with this head took care of the subject. On the head a mask in the form of a grinding helmet, not glasses. Of course, as you grind, a relatively large amount of dust is released, you can put a mask on the beak. Opened windows along the entire width during grinding. It can not be hidden that grinding according to my method is relatively time-efficient with a slight uniform pressure of the disk on the wall comes out a relatively smooth wall surface. In two days, with breaks, I dealt with the topic of sanding walls with oil paint that has been there for 30 years. I also demolished partitions. Repair specialists for the works I did in apartment M5 valued my work at around 6,000 zlotys. Of course Kasiora was in my pocket.

Instead of making a "Saigon" with an angle, sometimes it is worth reaching for simple tools such as:

And a regular hammer ... This combination allows you to remove paneling, marmolite and acrylic plaster relatively easily. It does not mean that you do not have to make money ...

I used, and more than once, a dozen m2 of marmolite scratched from a G / K board in 1 day and no angles with shields were suitable, because they destroyed the paper layer on the board. And with virtually no dust. A buddy removed with similar tools acrylic plaster from masonry fence posts. Of course, this requires a lot of work, but it is very precise in hard to reach places and does not degrade the ground. If you can dust in the room, probably the angle and the pot shield will be the most efficient, but I was doing renovation of 2 rooms in a inhabited house and I could not afford the armageddon with the angle, despite the protection from foil, etc.

That's it, gentlemen, the angular will make a spring roll, I will have dust even in the butt. This scraper is an interesting topic, it is not expensive and you can test it. It will definitely be useful because there are places where the machine will not enter. But with such large surfaces, who knows if I will not eat ... I have found something like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1O06SwYASo only the cost of this miracle with a vacuum cleaner is about PLN 1250-2 thousand: / (different prices from what I see)

Unfortunately, we recommend against grinding machines (whether eccentric or oscillating). What's more, none of these grinders is recommended to grind gypsum - they can break quite quickly, and the warranty will not apply. So the spatula or its more automated version remains - a multifunction device also called a multitool, e.g. GOP 40-30. For this you can buy attachments resembling a spatula and it will greatly facilitate the work. The paneling can also be heated with a heat gun - especially in the nooks and crannies it will facilitate peeling off the paint.
    Best regards, Bosch expert.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around the best tools for stripping varnished paneling and sanding plaster. Users suggest that high-speed sanders may struggle with oil paint, while angle grinders with specific attachments (like concrete grinding heads) are recommended for effective removal. Some participants mention using heat guns and scrapers as alternatives, emphasizing the importance of dust management. Eccentric and oscillating sanders are generally discouraged for this task, particularly for gypsum plaster, as they may break easily. A multifunction tool, such as the Bosch GOP 40-30, is suggested for its versatility. Chemical solutions are also mentioned, though they come with odor concerns.
