    Welcome,

I would like to buy something mobile for communication at a distance of about 1km in a straight line, but the area is not open. It is a small town, blocks of flats etc. Will there be something in the budget, say 200 - 250 PLN for a set (2 items)? Can Baofeng BF-888s manage?

Do you want to talk inside the building or outside? Each room reduces range, the car almost completely suppresses it. This baofeng what you gave the link can and has these "5km" range but in open space. I own Baofeng UV-82 and the UHF band in the city is OK, I mean these 2-3 km only that it has 5W of power and for this you need a license.

Hello, my humble shame on the BF-888S, for 129 zlotys you have Baofeng UV-5R.

    Incomparable possibilities (including scanner)

By purchasing an additional radio license for PLN 30 you are legally talking on PMR and the allocated FM band.

Tested in a large city 2-2.5 km without any problems

Devices without the required permit offering the expected range are only PMR 446MHz or CB radio 27MHz. Permits are required for other frequencies (devices), even if the seller assures that they are not.

Only here is the price for one device, and here for two. ;)

But thank you for the answers. It would be nice to be able to talk inside the building. According to geoportal, the distance is about 860m.
Where can I read about this permit for PLN 30? Is it a one-time fee or a monthly / annual subscription?

At the moment I see four ads:

    - Auoradia 158.375MHZ 448.125MHz
    - Avanti 158.100MHz 448.825MHz
    - HamRadioShop 157.9625MHz 448.1125MHz
    - NAVCOMM 157.9625 MHz 448.6375 MHz

The permit entitles you to use the radio only on the assigned frequency.
There are two nationwide channels (VHF channel plus UHF channel).
Radios are manual and max power 5W.

Two correspondents are two callsigns - that means two permits.

I recommend this product: MaxCom WT207. Works well in any terrain and weather, even in the mountains there is a good range, and convenient to use. Up to 3 km, excellent reception, within 4-5 km deteriorates.

    Welcome back.

In response to user inquiries, I am supplementing the list with a list of radios for broadcasting today.

I immediately say that this is not surreptitious advertising, but undoubtedly an expression of personal support for conducting such an activity that allows amateurs of all sorts for a small fee and in a legal way to connect over longer distances than, say in the PMR band, a number of benefits unlike others devices such as extending the time the radio is left to sleep, etc., etc.

On Chinese portals you have baofengs even for ~ 50 PLN (PMR) e.g. BAOFENG BF-999S
or other with a mini antenna.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around selecting a suitable walkie-talkie for urban communication within a budget of 200-250 PLN, specifically considering the Baofeng BF-888s. Users highlight that while the BF-888s claims a range of 5 km, this is only achievable in open areas. For urban settings, especially in buildings, the range is significantly reduced. Alternatives like the Baofeng UV-5R are recommended for their superior capabilities, including a scanner, and a legal radio license can be obtained for 30 PLN to operate on PMR frequencies. Other options mentioned include MaxCom WT207, which reportedly performs well in various terrains. Users emphasize the importance of understanding licensing requirements for different frequencies and suggest exploring additional models from Baofeng and Wouxun for better performance.
