Hello. I have a 1.5 year old laptop. I want to replace the processor with i5 or i7 anyway. In fact, this i3ka "slows down" a bit. I don't know what to replace. What i5 or 7 will go in it. I do not know what slot, etc. What processor will be supported (max. Parameters, but also such that it does not turn out that the processor will go, only the motherboard will have too bottleneck, for example, on the bus. detailed, so that I have sufficient knowledge on the subject, I also do not know how economical it will be (i5 v i7). I would ask for help.

    These are the parameters present:

    Processor type Intel Core i3-4005U, 1700 MHz (17 x 100)

Name of Asus X555LJ Series Notebook motherboard

Motherboard chipset Intel Lynx Point-LP, Intel Haswell

    BIOS type AMI (04/08/2015)

Integrated Intel (R) HD Graphics Family (1 GB)

    Dedicated nVIDIA GeForce 920M graphics

    M4-CT256M4SSD2 SSD physical disk (256 GB, SATA-III)

As I wrote, the laptop "clogs" especially with several threads at once. Hence the decision to possibly replace the processor. Thank you very much for all your help. best regards

There, you probably have a processor soldered to the board, so you won't do anything

The processor is not replaceable. All with the letter are soldered.

It's not going to be soldered? Besides, the same models were made of the i5 and i7ka. And they had the same motherboard name. So I don't quite understand ????

Changes in general cargo are possible.
Did you compare the rev albums?

I haven't compared anything yet. In fact, I'm surprised by the info about the soldered processor. Now I am beginning to understand why there was a lack of processor compatibility in the description. What will they not do today to throw away old equipment with garbage. Shock. Anyway, you can get the same i5 or i7 somewhere? It will probably be a BGA solder. And as for the Prock - this is the same model with the i7: Intel Core i7-5500U. Going to buy it somewhere?

Unfortunately, such a future awaits us that processors, memories, etc. will be soldered in the board and only the entire module will be replaced (if it is available at all). As a result, the expansion of laptops will fail because the customer, for example, after 2-3 years from the purchase, will not be able to replace the processor itself and add a framework, but will be forced to go for a new computer ...

You can currently search for the entire album and sell your current one. It is also often the case that if you had an i7 and simply soldered it, it would start, but it will not be profitable in terms of price, so few people practice it ... I have recently replaced in Acer such a processor from i3 to i5 and the laptop fired without any modification since an arrow (only there was a situation that the slingshot was dead and we had a working one in the flooded fin, so you did not risk a lot, only your time to deflect the prock and re-solder in the new disc).

PS The worst thing is that there is a fashion for SSD disks and the manufacturer is also soldering into the board more and more often and with a failure of the board for an ordinary Kowalski, it will be practically impossible to recover data ... Such times are waiting for us, unfortunately now in the amount of up to PLN 2,000 they no longer do laptops only toys ....

Will the expansion fall? Also my problem, the problem is the decline of the motherboard repair craft.

    Exactly. I close the topic.

Topic summary

The discussion centers around the potential upgrade of an Asus F555L laptop, specifically replacing the Intel Core i3-4005U processor with an i5 or i7 variant. Users express concerns about the compatibility of processors, with several responses indicating that the i3 processor is likely soldered to the motherboard, making upgrades impossible. The Asus X555LJ motherboard, equipped with an Intel Lynx Point-LP chipset, limits the upgrade options. Some users mention the possibility of finding an i7-5500U processor, but the general consensus is that the soldered nature of modern laptop components restricts upgrades, leading to a trend where entire modules must be replaced instead of individual components. The conversation highlights the challenges of laptop repairability and the decline of motherboard repair services.
