As you remember, every 1.6 16V you set the shaft to "0" with a dial indicator. The timing phases will split on these marks on the wheel.

You don't set every sixteenth to the clock :-) If the stilo is oplowski 1.6 16v z16x then you set the timing to the factory marks placed on the housing or gear wheels. And 1.6 1.6 Fiat should be done on locks and like a clock because for the correct tension of the belt you need a device for tensioning the tension roller and the need to loosen the gears of rollers. Of course you can do it with a handyman, but it is a lottery, it will either fail or it will lame and work unevenly or it will walk well :-) In my humble opinion, if the manufacturer has seen the locks / tools for the correct operation of any timing mechanism, this is not for my own view :-)
Btw you can close because the topic will not develop anyway.
