HORMANN HSE 2-868-BS Gate Remote Control: Red LED Only After Battery Change

Best answers

Why does a HORMANN HSE 2-868-BS gate remote only light the red LED after a battery change and seem to drain the battery, and how can it be checked or repaired?

The remote should not draw current in standby; if it really takes about 100 mA without pressing any button, it is faulty. The suspected part is D29, a pair of PNP/NPN digital transistors used to hold power when a button is pressed, with the processor controlling it [#16450615][#16450662][#16454963] A practical test is to power it from a 3 V supply and see what heats up after a while; the part that warms up is likely the defective one [#16454963] If the processor is damaged, the remote is effectively dead, but if the SX1230 transmitter is the problem, it can be replaced [#16454963]

    Hello!
The HORMANN HSE-868-BS gate remote control does not work. After inserting a new battery, for about an hour it seems that the remote control is working because after pressing one or the other button the red LED lights up and in a moment the blue LED lights up. After an hour or so, only the red LED lights up. The remote probably discharges the battery, because when you press the button on the remote control, the remote starts with about 10 mA and then 25 mA.

Does not consume electricity without pressing.

    The battery is new Energizer.

Sorry, without pressing the remote control uses 100mA.

The first 6-pin circuit powered by a plus battery is marked D29. I don't know what this circuit is and whether you can buy it somewhere.

The D29 is a pair of PNP and NPN digital transistors used to maintain power when a remote button is pressed - controlled by the processor. Datasheet in the attachment.
If the processor is damaged - it is the end of the remote control, if the SX 1230 transmitter it can be replaced.
How to check what is damaged?
Apply the voltage from the 3V power supply and see what starts to heat after a while - if you do not have a thermal imaging camera, and you certainly do not have one, use a small-angle pyrometer or just your finger and then your nose.

My colleague Adamcyn is not right about D29 - it is as I wrote.
I attach a photo of the housing and a fragment of the diagram.
As for the methodology of looking for damage, it seems clearly described - damaged elements that consume too much electricity - heat up.

After inserting a new battery, it seems that the remote control is working properly, it does not use any electricity in standby mode. I do not know if it will work on a new battery for a long time, but I resign from repairing and close the topic. Thank you all for your help.

Topic summary

✨ The HORMANN HSE 2-868-BS gate remote control exhibited issues after a battery change, initially functioning with both red and blue LEDs lighting up, but later only the red LED remained active. Users discussed the remote's power consumption, confirming it should not draw power in standby mode. Suggestions included checking the battery quality, with the user confirming the use of a new Energizer battery. Further investigation revealed potential damage to internal components, specifically the D29 circuit, which consists of PNP and NPN transistors. The user ultimately decided against repair after the remote seemed to function correctly post-battery replacement, although concerns about long-term performance remained.
