    Hello,
I have a problem with the fuel gauge in VW Polo 6n 1.4 Gasoline '99. The point is that when refueling, the pointer rises but does not fall at all over the kilometers. I replaced the fuel pump with a new one, I tested the clocks with VAG (everything ok) but the problem persists. Yesterday I pulled out the fuse for the clocks and as if the needle with the fuel dropped a little, but it stays in the same place while driving. Yesterday I connected another fuel pump without putting it in the pitch and then, moving the float, I watched the indicator and rose as it should (I will add that this pump was also replaced once because the float did not work). Is there anyone able to help me with this problem?

    Hello .
If the indicator works well on the removed fuel pump with a float, it must wedge or get stuck somewhere in the tank as you put it in. I may be wrong, but there should be an arrow on the pump and float housing as it is to be mounted in relation to the tank. right or left, and the problem may go away.

There are arrows, but three. The question is who is responsible for the settings and how to set it?

Clean the top of the tank thoroughly, and there should also be a mark. As you know, you move a little to the right or left and the problem is. Recently, my friend and I took out the pump with a float in the Audi and the mark was, as I remember correctly. It should be such an embossing in the form of a dash or an arrow.

I have to check it, and when it comes to the arrows on the pump, do you know which one is responsible for the setting?

Unfortunately there are no markings on the fuel tank. I tried to set the pump in such a way that the float points to the fuel filler. Unfortunately, it did not have any effect, I did 200 km and the fuel dropped not all of one stroke (5-6 liters).

Is it a full refuel? This type has to drop 10l before the indicator starts to drop at all, the filler pipe itself has a large capacity.

No no, it's about situations where 1/2 of the tank is filled

Recently, I noticed that the pointer drops to a maximum of only 1/2 tank, it looks like there is a reserve, maybe someone knows where the problem is?

If, with the float removed from the tank, the indications are correct, then the float must be blocked somewhere, rubbing in the tank. To be sure, how would the float's arm set (bent), I would compare it with the float on the road. whether that happened.

Not recently something like that happened to me and I decided to replace the pump with a new one because I thought it was her fault but with the pump bought on the road it is exactly the same ..

So when the float is removed from the tank, the new or the old one works fine. How did you put the old or new one, it starts a problem? Does the new one have the same number as the old one?

Exactly as you write. Both the new and the old float have the same designation: 6N0919051N. I would like to add that the VAG test of clocks was carried out and with the tip everything ok.

Unfortunately, the problem is still not resolved :(

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around a fuel gauge issue in a 1999 VW Polo 6n 1.4 gasoline model, where the fuel pointer rises upon refueling but fails to drop during driving. The user has replaced the fuel pump and tested the instrument cluster with VAG diagnostics, but the problem persists. Suggestions include checking the float's positioning and ensuring it is not stuck or blocked within the tank. Users discuss the importance of proper alignment of the pump and float, noting that incorrect installation could lead to gauge inaccuracies. Despite attempts to adjust the float and pump settings, the issue remains unresolved, with indications that the gauge may only drop to half tank levels.
