    Hello.
Needs to protect the rubber parts in the car from aging (brake hose hoses, joint covers, steering knobs and other rubber elements). I intend to use technical acid-free Vaseline. What do you think about this idea?

    greetings

Theoretically, it will give advice, in practice petrolatum will catch sand and dust. There are many measures typical for rubber preservation, from those for PLN 5 to Forch or Wurth.
Good quality rubber parts without maintenance last a dozen or so years, the bad even holy water will not help.
    Some ancient monument?

No way. Vaseline will not give you anything.
Painting can help a little, but not too much.
As rubber has few antioxidants, nothing will help.

Of course. In addition, it removes plasticizers from the rubber surface, which after some time will cause even more stiffness.

After 2 years of practice, I will tell you that it will not help. Simply low quality rubber is aging fast.
It's easy to get to know the original elements and very cheap toys.

And I will add such an example - many older electricians, probably remember the Polish three-finger dielectric gloves. Which bad rubber were made of. After a few years they crumbled. Later, French and English appeared. There,% rubber in rubber was just right.

I remembered an old piece of rubber:
A lot of feces, not much of a chuk :)

I am not talking about the regeneration of rubber, but about slowing down the aging process.
It is known that used rubber parts should be replaced. The car is Skoda Fabia 2008

If you have the orginalne, they will calmly reach 15 years. Unless the metal is worn out earlier.

I'll tell you that. The rubber content in the mix does not have a big influence on the durability of the rubber. In order for the rubber to not sweat, antioxidants and preservatives are needed. Without it, the gum is rubbing, no matter what rubber was.

Nothing will give. It can only help varnish the rubber, but you need to know what rubber is, so as not to damage it. In short, it does not make sense.

I do not know what ingredient in those gloves was missing, because I do not know the composition of the rubber, but you can see something missing, because those gloves were unstable, in contrast to the aforementioned new ones.

Antioxidants were missing and there was too much chalk. Oh what.

I do not care for efficiency, but once it was recommended to protect the rubber by coating with silicone grease.

    Not everyone, not everywhere.

Topic summary

The discussion centers on the effectiveness of using acid-free Vaseline to protect rubber components in vehicles, such as brake hoses and joint covers, from aging. Several participants express skepticism about this approach, citing that Vaseline may attract dust and sand, potentially exacerbating wear. They emphasize that the longevity of rubber parts largely depends on their quality, with low-quality rubber aging rapidly regardless of treatment. Alternatives such as specialized rubber varnishes and silicone grease are suggested, as they may provide better protection by incorporating antioxidants and preservatives. The conversation also touches on the importance of using original parts, as they can last significantly longer than inferior substitutes.
