Hello. 2.2 gasoline engine (m54b22) The problem appeared in the spring on warmer days. When the car goes to idle, the car will display a message with low oil pressure. This happens only on a well-warmed engine. While driving, everything is OK. The oil pressure sensor has been replaced by the original one, the oil temperature sensor, oil castrol 10w40 plus filter. Due to the lack of further ideas I would ask for some suggestions. Greetings.

The suggestion is to measure the oil pressure on the hot one.

The classic signs of oil pressure decay, just like the right Ireneo, measure the pressure with an ordinary meter and search for causes if necessary.

Why flooded 10W40? I know it will not kill him (the engine itself) but the rings in M54 can already.
What are the drops (how much below the nominal is it right), is the oil level and what is the actual pressure?

If the sensor is efficient and low pressure shows only at low revolutions, in addition flooded with 10W40 oil, it is most likely that the engine makes its life. How much is it done?

Why is flooded 10w40? Because this was poured by the previous owner and the mechanic said he did not make sense for the 5W30 change. The mileage of this engine is about 400 thousand.

The mistake was made by the one who first flooded 10W40. It is supposed to be a synthetic synthetics regardless of the course but now probably after the competition.

    Like for what reason?

    He has no right.
I would start by replacing the oil pump.

I do not know if it's just not because of the delicate rings. Some of the owners tried to treat oil uptake in m54 with higher viscosity oil and ended up with even more oil junk and exchange of rings. Or it just rode and poured.

How the engine will come down from the turnover, we give it 50% of the nominal free spins it has the right. I do not know how the E60 but the older generation in gasoline had a fairly slow response to changes in the engine load and any leak in the intake or just the consumption of some elements sometimes results in quite a large fan of free spins. The example has on its e46 - defective flowmeter and throttle position sensor - the effect - when disengaged while driving, the speed dropped to 300 - 400 rpm and the oil lamp then flashed. And nominally it has something around 800 rpm at idle. The same in Yaris - nominally 600, but my friend learned to ride and as he drank somewhere up to 300, the oil light flashed.

As for the turnover, one mechanic stated that it definitely is too low because it holds a total of 500 revolutions and that you have to lift them with a computer

This is a problem with the equipment - flow meter, throttle position sensor, leak and other possible faults, maybe exhaled.
In cars with electronic slow idle regulation, they are not regulated, I do not know if it is possible to reprogram the controller at all - locate and remove the fault.
500 rpm is a bit much like a glowing oil control - you would also look at the pressure because in some time you will have no pressure even at the correct speed.

I would put a leak in one place.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around a BMW E60 equipped with the M54B22 2.2 gasoline engine, which exhibits low oil pressure at idle after the engine is warmed up. Users suggest measuring the oil pressure when hot to diagnose the issue. Concerns are raised about the use of Castrol 10W40 oil, which may not be suitable for the engine, especially given its high mileage of approximately 400,000 km. Recommendations include checking the oil pump, addressing potential leaks, and considering the condition of the oil pressure and temperature sensors. Additionally, low idle RPMs (around 500) are noted as a contributing factor, with suggestions to reprogram the engine control unit to correct idle speed issues. The discussion highlights the importance of proper oil viscosity and the potential impact of engine wear on oil pressure readings.
