I would like to encourage my son (18 years old) to create more than theoretical programmes for school (which are important for him to learn how to program and not to "write programmes"), but they have little to do with practical applications.
I was thinking that he could create some simple system for managing doors, gates, etc.
What we already have:
- raspberry pi
- wifi router
- smartphones
what we would like to add:
- control of the electric door opener
- opening/closing of Hormann garage door
- opening/closing of Nice entry gate
- entrance door to the house (not an electric door strike but with locking/opening - electromotor lock or some kind of overlay on the normal one like https://candyhouse.co/)
as a next phase, it would be possible to add camera operation (as a video intercom), sockets in the house, etc.
operated via smartphone app
devices over wifi using some kind of key/encryption to maintain a minimum level of security
where to start to keep it simple (nothing encourages more than success ) but expandable.
there is probably no point in writing from scratch - there are already ready-made platforms - which one to choose?
what to buy as a minimum? (it's easiest to start with a wicket, because I'm assuming the lowest costs here and if the idea doesn't work out it won't be too bad)
There have been some threads on a similar topic, but they are scattered and some are already quite old.
