Hello. I have such a problem that recently I refueled the car several times with about 10 liters and it turned out that more can not be done because it is right under the traffic jam. The fuel gauge started to go crazy. Once he squealed and the reserve was lit, then suddenly the indicator goes up and shows that the tank is full. He jumps as he wants. I would like to add that when I bought a car, I got the information that the float is broken and if it shows half the tank, it means that it is practically empty. Well, I was driving for 10 years and it was ok, and now as he writes - he is going crazy and squeaking, despite the fact that for 10 years the pointer has never dropped below half. Yesterday, my brother advised me to vent, because he does it sometimes, and if he does, it's okay. So I went and vented as he advised me, but it didn't help. So I was pissed off, to put it mildly, because I didn't know how much fuel I had. I pulled out the float and it turned out that the tank was full, but one thing interested me. Namely, there are 4 inputs in the float supply cube, while in the float only 2 outputs. Does this mean that, for example, I have a float from another Audi model inserted? And will changing the float help with this fuel gauge variation? Or is it just hanging? I will add that it is an Audi A4 B5 Avant. 1.9Tdi. 110km. 1996 Thanks in advance for any suggestions :) Best regards.

The installation of an efficient float will help. The Audi has 4 wires for the tank pump, but the 1.9tdi cartridge does not have a pump, only a sensor, there are also 2 pins in the lid.

Thank you for the information. Because everyone said that I have a float from a different model because of this cube with 4 inputs. And as I watched, only 4 pins come out of the float from the Audi 100. And when I connected all these 4 inputs from the ankle for a short time, about 8 years ago, then the indicator normally fell down until the reserve lighted up. And as I wrote for 10 years below the half of the index, there was no chance that it would drop. And now he flies as he wants :)

The float outside the reservoir can be checked with an ohmmeter. If a friend has one. If the float turns out to be operational, look for damage in the wiring loom or in the meter itself

Unfortunately, I don't :( But I can always drop him off at an electrician. But does it make sense if he has been "damaged" for 10 years?

I repair cars that have been "damaged" for several dozen years at home. After repair, they look like new from the factory. Anything is possible, just a matter of cost.
