Audi a8 charging problem - There is no charging on the battery

Hello,
I'll start with the fact that I have a problem with charging the battery. I was at an electrician today and he checked the voltage from the alternator and it was 13.80, then he checked the battery and there was 12.20. The electrician explained to me that it could be the fault of the starter, because the wrong voltage is coming from the starter. Is it possible???
audi a8 D3 2002 4.2 benz gas.

Disregarding the 13.8V on the alternator, check the main alternator power cable (+), corroded or overheated terminals or loose connections themselves may show that there is low voltage on the battery itself. In addition, I would check the ground connection, battery-engine.
