    Hello,
I'll start with the fact that I have a problem with charging the battery. I was at an electrician today and he checked the voltage from the alternator and it was 13.80, then he checked the battery and there was 12.20. The electrician explained to me that it could be the fault of the starter, because the wrong voltage is coming from the starter. Is it possible???

I bet on a maintenance-free battery from which the electrolyte has already evaporated. Distilled water and top up if it's not too late. Such attention due to the current weather.

You probably misunderstood what that electrician was saying. In general, instead of guessing, you had to ask him to repair it.

First of all, repair the alternator. It is supposed to be over 14V

    Hello.
Disregarding the 13.8V on the alternator, check the main alternator power cable (+), corroded or overheated terminals or loose connections themselves may show that there is low voltage on the battery itself. In addition, I would check the ground connection, battery-engine.

Do you even know what it looks like in this car?
Aside from the dips in the installation, the first thing to look at "battery control" is to see what tensions

So the indications that the computer sees on its way, but when it has 13.8V on the alternator and 12.2V on the battery, it indicates voltage drops on the alternator-battery road, isn't it.

Maybe I haven't seen exactly what the charging system looks like in this car.
As you know, there are alternators that have computer regulation, and this one certainly does, but if you say that I do not know, enlighten me why the alternator is 13.8V and the battery is 12.2V. If it was the same here and here which is 12.2V is a different matter.

Maybe I'm old when you say that I am suitable for repairing old cars, maybe you, Friend E8600, will enlighten me why the alternator output (B +) is 13.8V, and the battery is 12.2V. What does the indicator have to do with it (I think nothing ), the belt also does not, because there would be a low voltage on the alternator, apart from computer control for charging, it also falls out.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around a charging issue with a 2002 Audi A8 (D3) 4.2 gasoline model, where the battery is not charging properly. The user reports that the alternator outputs 13.80V while the battery shows only 12.20V. Responses suggest various potential causes, including a failing alternator, an old or malfunctioning battery, and issues with the main power cable or ground connections. Some participants emphasize the need to check for voltage drops in the alternator-battery circuit and the importance of ensuring proper connections to resolve the charging problem.
