I warmly welcome. Patient Audi a3 8L from the year 2000 facelift. Triggers the steering wheel sensor error (G85) from time to time.

After resetting the error and calibrating the system, it is okay again for a day or two and the problem returns.

Interestingly, the sensor itself is functional, because after a replacement with a friend -> my Audi works without a problem, and his functional one also crashes an error from time to time.

So where to look for the cause? Bundle?

Someone met with something like this

The suspension geometry should be set to the sensor position at 0 degrees. With the steering wheel straight ahead. Yellow dot in the sensor window.

I recently had such a problem in the b6 pass, it was helped by the replacement of the steering gear. the errors were on the steering torque sensor and the vcdsem calibration only helped for a few hours

    Added after 58 [seconds]:

    I would replace the g85

Only replacing the G85 gives nothing new.

Why did you replace the gearbox? What was the connection?

    B6 and A3 are a subtle difference.

    Subject to be closed.

The culprit turned out to be a loose plug from the sensor under the steering wheel.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around a recurring error with the steering wheel sensor (G85) in a 2000 Audi A3 8L. The user experiences intermittent sensor errors that reset temporarily after calibration. Despite replacing the sensor with a functional one from a friend, the issue persists, suggesting a deeper problem. Responses indicate that proper suspension geometry alignment is crucial, and one user shares a similar experience with a B6 Passat, where replacing the steering gear resolved the issue. Ultimately, the problem was identified as a loose plug from the sensor under the steering wheel, which was the root cause of the error.
