    Hello.
    I have an Audi A3 from 2003.
everything was fine until my battery started dying. I didn`t know what it was about because it turned off for literally a moment and then worked again. It turned out that the terminals were not tightened. After one of these "battery resets", the ESP light started to illuminate. I checked if it works and unfortunately I must say that it doesn`t. I clicked the ESP button to turn ESP on and off but nothing happens, it stays on. And here I have a question: what should I do about it? Has my ESP broken or what?
I would like to ask for help as soon as possible

You know, in these cars, all computers are sensitive to lack of voltage, so after such an action you have to connect the computer or restart it yourself.

Hello . The steering sensor adaptation has probably failed and you will need to repeat the "basic settings"

    best regards, rox1

Do you know what the amount of such settings could be?

I know because I do it on a regular basis, first the vcds diagnostics, reading the errors, and then we can talk about the costs, but I think it will be around PLN 250.

and as for restarting, do you know how to do it?

nothing is reset, only if nothing has happened, the steering sensor is calibrated again, or the ABS coding is repeated. If you live near my city, I can sort it out for you, you can`t fix it yourself!!!

    best regards, rox1

best regards rox1, this is what it is, it`s just driving, turn all the way left and right and adaptation should be done

I was driving, I was doing gas tests in the snow, to check if the ESP works, but unfortunately it doesn`t, but there`s no point in hiding the fact that it`s certain since the light is on.

    Diagnosis first, then repair.
Such shamanic advice will not help.

It`s not magic, just normal procedure.

You drive 5 km/h and turn the steering wheel left and right. If not, diagnostics, calibration of the steering sensor or replacement should help.

After how many turns should it turn off?

I have an additional question: how much does a computer diagnosis cost in your city?

Diagnosis or error reading - there is a difference.
    Error reading PLN 80.00.

the car was repaired, I managed to get it done for free at an Audi showroom. It turned out that there was little voltage from the disconnected terminals and the computer was decoded.

Hello, I have the same problem, Audi A3 8p 2003. 2.0 TDI, my friend changed my turn signal lever, it was old, it had some punctures, when I turned the blinker to the right, it flashed once to the right and then to the left, generally a circus. He unscrewed the entire steering wheel, took out some plates, pulled out the old direction lever and installed a new one. Direction, act normally. But there is an error esp yellow exclamation mark. It doesn`t want to go away, I connected it to the computer and the guy removed the errors, but the light is still on. I turned off the battery and the error is still there. Damn, he fixed one and broke the other. What could be the reason for this?

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around an issue with the ESP light remaining illuminated on a 2003 Audi A3 after a battery problem caused by loose terminals. Users suggest that the ESP system may require a reset or recalibration of the steering sensor due to the voltage drop. Recommendations include using VCDS diagnostics to read errors and perform necessary calibrations. One user successfully resolved the issue at an Audi showroom, where it was determined that low voltage had caused the computer to malfunction. Another user reported a similar problem after replacing the turn signal lever, indicating that the ESP error persisted despite attempts to reset it by disconnecting the battery.
