I have a question about which router model to ask for when installing UPC?

As part of the ending contract with UPC, I agreed to exchange a Technicolor TC7200.U router because it hangs frequently and has poor wifi coverage. I got a proposal to install a Motorola box sb5101, because it has better antennas. Is it really worth exchanging for this model or maybe some other? [/ B]

Any modem with built-in antennas is worse than a router with antennas on top. As for the better one, I don't know. I know that depending on your home equipment (I hope you have new ones), you should ask for a router working in both bands, i.e. 2.4 and 5 GHz. In the 5 GHz band it is much looser and the devices work better.

Thanks for the advice. It looks like both have built-in antennas. Maybe anyone else has any insights on this topic?

You should scan with the application on a smart type of wifi analyzer or bald inssider on which channel your modem is working and see if it is impossible to change the channel to another, where it is looser.

In addition to the poor wifi range, the problem is also that the current router (TC7200.U) often freezes, so I want to replace it, so I will rather not try to leave it at all costs by changing the settings. This router is pretty old for me (I already have it for over 3 years) and probably are better, the question is whether UPC has something better on offer?

    Rather Compal CH7465LG.

Better than what I indicated above - no.
They do have Ubee (but he only bonds up to 8 DS channels, so if you think about a 500 Mb network, Ubee can't do it).

UPC does not own or offer such equipment.

There are also problems with this Compal (jumping ping - though this has already been corrected), but there is a problem with the PUMA6 processor on the basis of which this Compala was built.
Paradoxically, despite such problems, you are doomed to Compal (but here I would recommend modem mode and my own router).

As a consolation, I can add that unofficial rumors are preaching :) that in the first quarter of 2018 Intel is to completely "fix" Compala by releasing software for it that will fix ping and a problem with the processor (unfortunately this is not just a few lines of code - you just need to create again with new executable libraries for processor and chipset, change the rules of "polling" by the processor of commands issued by the client, etc.).
Currently tests are underway at Intel, then it will be soft tested at operators, then beta testers will receive soft test and after confirming the absence of problems (although other problems will probably appear) ;) ) all users of these devices will receive the software.

As a curiosity, I can add that UPC Polska is the first! he reacted to problems with Compal and implemented soft, based on which other operators in the UK, Switzerland and Germany did so.
