I have a problem connecting my car camera. The voltage is constantly supplied to the car lighter. When I connect the camera, it records all the time and I would like it only to record while driving (when the ignition is on).
I was thinking about some voltage sensor that if it exceeds 13V then it turns on the lighter. Or are there any better patents? I will add that I have a Voyager from 2001-2008. Anyone already done this?

Hello. I propose to make a lighter + 12V power supply after the ignition switch, i.e. the voltage only after turning the ignition switch in the ignition position.

    What car, what camera exactly?

The easiest way is to find the power supplied when the ignition is turned on in the radio power cube.

I was thinking about some voltage sensor that if it exceeds 13V then it turns on the lighter.

It can be done - maybe for example on TL431, PNP transistor (probably medium power) and several resistors. What are the camera's power requirements (voltage, current)?

The advantage of using a cigarette lighter socket is that you can assemble the system in the plug (if there are no problems with cooling), without interfering with the installation of the car.

You have to read with understanding - I wrote that the car is Voyager and as for the camera, I would like every camera to work the same. If I get bored and buy a better one, I would like it to work after turning the key.

All in all a very good idea. I have a non-factory radio and I have very easy access. It is very possible that I will make an additional socket behind the radio inside the building in this way, in this way I will gain a lot on the aesthetics and save the socket for charging the phone while driving. I will fight on the weekend.

You set the appropriate options in the camera menu :)

I changed the car. In the new current in the socket is after turning the key. best regards

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around connecting a car camera to the 12V socket of a 2001-2008 Voyager, ensuring it only records when the ignition is on. Users suggest various solutions, including wiring the power supply to the ignition switch, utilizing the radio power cube for ignition-controlled power, and implementing a voltage sensor circuit with components like a TL431 and PNP transistor. One user shares their successful installation method, allowing the camera to operate based on the ignition switch position. The conversation emphasizes the need for a solution that accommodates different camera models while maintaining aesthetic considerations in the vehicle's interior.
