    Hello.
In the 2001 astra, the ignition switch broke - the metal pin broke and the car did not start. I bought a used ignition switch sleeve, with a key. After replacing the element, the car starts. Only the metal part was replaced, the ignition cube was the same. The problem is that the "new" key to start the car does not enter the car door locks - so you need to use 2 keys (1 for the door and 1 for the ignition switch). The car has a factory central locking - the key has two buttons to open / close the door.
Unfortunately, the central lock, for unknown reasons, often jams - only closing, for example, and pressing the opening button does not do anything. Sometimes it is ok for a long time, and sometimes the lock does not respond to any button. That's why I can't count on buttons alone and would like to be able to open the door with a key.

Another question is the question of what could be the reason for such a strange behavior of the central locking - it sometimes reacts to the remote control and sometimes not.

As for the mechanical issue, I would transfer all the latches from the old cylinder to the new one and then it will work with the old key, but when it comes to the central one, does the diode on the remote control light up when pressing the button?

Is it possible to disassemble this sleeve so as to translate the guts and will the old key fit? Yes, after pressing the button the red LED lights

    I checked the battery with a measuring device - 3.05 V

You would have to check if the limit switches in the driver's door lock are not working.

The matter was complicated - because I could not cope with the replacement of elements. I went to a specialist who put everything together on one key - this old key. By the way, he also repaired the key because it turned out that one plate inside was chipped and that is why the pilot sometimes caught and sometimes did not.

The only problem left - the airbag indicator light is on, I took it off and pressed the connector but it doesn't work. After turning the key, it is on all the time, after turning on the engine, it disappears for a second and comes back, OBD connected to the car does not detect any errors.

What OBD? You must have at least an OP-COM for the diagnosis of the pillow. The ankles under the seats often loosen.

No, I have OBD for 20 zlotys .... :) After the weekend, I have to show up at a car repair shop. I moved the ankle under the seat, pressed it, etc. No changes. I wonder if this light is on, will the pillow work if necessary?

No, because that's what shines in to inform you about a malfunction.

Even with a glowing indicator light, the pillows should work if necessary. The pillow error will not go out by itself, even if there is currently no fault, you have to connect the computer and delete it each time. For me, the error appeared once when I killed a fly on the dashboard, and as long as I did not delete the errors, the light was on. Anyway, to find out what caused the appearance of the light, you need to connect and read the saved errors.

The reason may be, for example, the position sensor cable, and not the pillow itself. It is enough to drive through the holes or move the chair to light up the light.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around the replacement of the ignition switch in a 2001 Opel Astra G, where the user faced issues with a new key that does not fit the door locks, necessitating the use of two separate keys. The user also reported problems with the factory central locking system, which intermittently fails to respond to the remote control. Suggestions included transferring latches from the old cylinder to the new one to ensure compatibility with the original key and checking the limit switches in the driver's door lock. The user later sought professional help to unify the keys and repair the remote, which had internal damage. Additionally, an airbag indicator light issue was raised, with advice to use a proper OBD tool for diagnostics and to check connections under the seats. Cleaning contacts resolved the airbag light problem.
