Hello, I'm going to buy the Yamaha R-N303D + Philips Smart TV 55 inch receiver + with a fiber optic TV decoder. I have some doubts about how to put everything together, namely the correct output of the sound from the decoder -> to the receiver and from the TV to -> the receiver. While I plan to connect one of these devices, e.g. a decoder, with an optical cable, I have no idea how to connect the TV to this receiver due to the fact that there is only one optical input in the receiver. Probably someone will ask why connect the TV to the receiver. I want to have sound on the speakers while watching, for example, Netflix, which will be streamed directly from the Internet (bypassing the set-top box). I hope that I have explained everything logically.
(If I wrote something wrong where it should be, sorry and please move the topic)

    Regards and please help

Edit: I also had an idea that maybe I don't need to connect the decoder to the receiver. Maybe it is enough to connect the TV itself to which the sound will flow from the decoder via HDMI and then it will be optically sent to the receiver. But won't it worsen the sound quality?

I must also mention that this is not a home theater receiver, but a normal 2.0, which does not have HDMI inputs, unfortunately, so the only thing left for me is one optical input. I hope you are right and the sound from the decoder will travel the way DECODER (HDMI) -> TV (optical) -> RECEIVER -> COLUMNS

plus (option with netflix) TV -> RECEIVER -> COLUMNS

Yamaha R-N303D Receiver: Connecting to Philips 55 Smart TV & Fiber Optic TV Decoder - Setup Help I have a chinch input, but there is no decoder in it.

Here is the rear of the receiver Yamaha R-N303D Receiver: Connecting to Philips 55 Smart TV & Fiber Optic TV Decoder - Setup Help

I would be saved by the coaxial output which, if I read correctly, is also digital. Unfortunately, this TV does not have it. The chinches are analog and I think there may be some quality losses in the sound. The only thing left is to count on the fact that the above output Decoder - HDMI - TV - Optical - Amplifier will work.

Well, unless someone clever still speaks

I decided to check if it will work as I previously assumed. I used an old TV and some cheap speakers with a sub-receiver with an optical input and the above-mentioned decoder and it turned out that the TV transmits sound beautifully from the decoder to the speakers via the optical cable

decoder (HDMI) -> TV (optical) -> Speakers

    Problem solved.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around connecting a Yamaha R-N303D receiver to a Philips 55-inch Smart TV and a fiber optic TV decoder. The user seeks guidance on achieving optimal sound output from the decoder to the receiver and from the TV to the receiver, noting the limitation of having only one optical input on the receiver. Suggestions include connecting the decoder via HDMI to the TV and then using an optical cable from the TV to the receiver for sound output. The user confirmed that this setup successfully transmitted sound from the decoder to the speakers through the TV. The conversation also touched on the possibility of using RCA inputs and the availability of HDMI to RCA adapters, although the user preferred to avoid potential quality loss associated with analog connections.
