Hello, I would like to buy a m.2 ssd for my thinkpad, but unfortunately it only supports 42mm disks. If I buy a m.2 to sata adapter (to insert a larger disk), the bandwidth will be limited to 6 Gbps? Will it work on my laptop? Thank you in advance :)

Welcome. Indeed, when it comes to m.2 disks, these are only 2242 disks. The laptop also has the ability to mount a standard 2.5 "disk, why use a grommet if you can simply buy an SSD disk in a 2.5" enclosure and mount it? M.2 with a via will not work faster (because it will also be SATA III gen, NVMe disks will not function properly on most of the guides).

I don't understand the idea of installing the adapter. There is little space there, how do you want to put your sata controller in there and another sata disk? The more that the m.2 connector already has one sata line from the main board controller.
