    Hello,
what drive is best to buy for a Lenovo ThinkPad T420 laptop. The size doesn't have to be big, 256gb is enough. I am not sure what model will be suitable. In the second laptop (Samsung) I have Crucial BX100 SSD and unfortunately it does not fit Lenovo.

    Thanks for the help.

Welcome. The T420 will fit a 2.5 "SATA drive, so the Crucial BX100 should fit just like any other 2.5" drive. How does this drive not fit you mechanically, or your computer does not want to detect it?

// edit: Reading the forums T420 and BX100 have problems when it comes to cooperation (that is, it can be mounted, but the BIOS does not detect, or throws an error, or detects, but problems installing the OS). Theoretically, most SATA-2.5 "SSDs should work with this laptop. After choosing, however, it is probably worth entering the phrase T420 + disk model in Google and see if people have problems with this model.

I recommend GoodRAM Iridium PRO 240GB from good disks.

I just had a problem with it being dumped in Bios.
The GoodRam you provided will work ok?

In terms of size, the housing is a standard must match.

It should, it is a very good disk, but officially there is no list of disks with which the Lenovo T420 has problems, so just in case it is worth taking from a store that will not make problems with regulatory return.

Samsung will come out much more expensive, and you will not notice the difference in speed in real use.

Topic summary

The Lenovo ThinkPad T420 is compatible with 2.5" SATA SSDs, including the Crucial BX100, although users have reported issues with BIOS detection and installation. Alternatives such as the GoodRAM Iridium PRO 240GB are recommended, noted for their reliability and warranty. The Samsung 850 PRO is also considered, but it is more expensive with negligible performance differences in practical use. It is advisable to check compatibility by searching for specific SSD models in relation to the T420 to avoid potential issues.
