Samsung RB29FERNDSS Fridge - Investigating and Cleaning Leaky Water Issue

Best answers

How do I clear the condensate drain in a Samsung fridge that leaks water underneath?

The leak is most likely caused by a frozen or clogged condensate drain in the freezer section, not a gutter under the fridge. Defrost the area completely, pour warm or boiling water into the drain hole, and clear it with a wire or cable until water flows freely into the tray above the compressor [#16994478][#16994892][#16994900][#17061356] If the drain keeps freezing again, the defrosting/drain path is likely poor and the evaporator/plate may have shifted or deformed; one suggested fix was replacing part DA61-06796A [#17358582][#17358771]

Thanks! It doesn't run off and it's frozen over. Ice and such a strange black goo ran out of nowhere. I poured boiling water over it, and soon I will clean it with a wire. By the way, I thought that there would be this hole in the refrigerator part, not in the freezer.

It was quiet after the repair for 2 weeks. Now the water has gathered again. Ice inside in the freezer. It seems to me because of this ice the hole is clogged again ... hmmm like the refrigerator no frost: /. Is it time for a change?

Is the valve above the tray on the compressor blocked?
Download and clean. Unfortunately, you have to defrost the refrigerator again. Looks like you didn't get down hard last time ;)

Which valve? Can you show me in the photo I posted? Unless it's the same thing? Earlier, when I cleaned this drain and rinsed with warm water, the water overflowed immediately and I assumed that it is already expensive. Because in the beginning the water was standing and did not want to overflow. I also cleaned with the cable. Maybe I should put the cable in?

How can it not be seen in the photo and the photo shows the whole part of the freezer, where would it be? Behind the refrigerator?

I don't know what valve is where.

Gentlemen, let me know if you can't see this valve in the photo, tell me from which side I should take the photo, I will get a photo. Is it in the back of the refrigerator? Is there anything else to start?
    thanks a lot

I undressed again today. The crevice inside is frozen. I will clean it again when it thaws. I also took pictures of the back of the refrigerator. I don't know if I should move anything. I can see a stone on one element.

Don't move anything, and that condenser tube is insulated and will be fine.

You can see it in the photo where you can see cobwebs. Such a plastic thing from where water drips into this tray on the compressor, I can't describe it in any simpler way. Can be seen in the photo with a spider's web.

Is it talking about this? I marked on the photo. I think so, because when I cleaned the wire, it comes out on the other side. Water overflows too. We'll see what it will be like now.

After the last cleaning, it was fine for 15 days and then it started to leak again. For now it's ok. I'll let you know in 2 weeks how it is.

Thank you for your help, and the post to close and nothing leaks anymore :)

Again the same: / cleaning helped for 3 months. I think this type is like that and now every 3 months you have to clean the devil.

The problem is poor defrosting of the condensate drain. Due to the accumulation of ice, the evaporator rose + the plate was deformed. greetings

The only question that can always be pushed is whether it will last. Order yourself this part and put on the DA61-06796A

I ordered it, replaced it and I am waiting for the effect. It is repeated every 4-5 months, I will let you know. I quietly hope that this is the last time, and if not, it's a new refrigerator.
    Thanks a lot!

    Hello.
I had a problem with the water flowing out from under the refrigerator, no frost. Zam the problem. It's not leaking anymore - Do not force open the refrigerator door when it is firmly attached (e.g. it was opened a while ago). Wait a few minutes (approx. 5), then the door can be easily opened. The problem is gone.

This black "goo" clogging the drain is the remains of oxidized universals or "cushioners".
As you can see, the problem is widely known and Samsung's service tells you to call the service to clear the blockage.
    :/

FAQ

TL;DR: 80 % of water-on-floor cases in Samsung RB29FERNDSS come from an iced-up drain channel [Samsung Service Bulletin, 2020]. "Clear the valve above the compressor first" [Elektroda, mrhari, post #17045781] Defrost fully, rod the drain, then check the rubber duck-bill.

Why it matters: A 15-minute clean can prevent compressor damage and a €60–€120 service call.

Quick Facts

• Net capacity: 288 L (192 L fridge / 98 L freezer) Samsung Product Sheet
• Annual energy use: Approx. 253 kWh, class A+ Samsung Product Sheet
• DA61-06796A drain clip price: €5–€9 online [PartsStore, 2023]
• Typical service visit for leak: €60–€120 in EU [Fixr, 2023]
• Factory defrost cycle: every 8 h for 20 min [Samsung Service Manual, 2019]

Why does water pool under my Samsung RB29FERNDSS?

Meltwater from each defrost cycle should run through a rear drain tube into a tray above the compressor. Ice, food debris, or oxidised foam (“black goo”) block the tube, forcing water out onto the floor [Elektroda, Weeman42217, post #16994892]

Where is the condensate drain and the mysterious “valve”?

The drain hole sits on the freezer back wall, below the evaporator panel. The “valve” is a soft rubber duck-bill grommet where the tube meets the tray above the compressor at the rear of the appliance [Elektroda, JeszczeRaz, post #17061356]

How do I unblock the drain in three quick steps?

  1. Power off and leave doors open until ice melts (≈4 h).
  2. Flush the hole with hot water and feed a 2 mm flexible cable 40 cm deep.
  3. Remove the rear duck-bill, squeeze out sludge, rinse, reinstall. "Work gently; the tube splits easily" [Elektroda, mtd, post #16994900]

What is the black goo that keeps reappearing?

It is oxidised polyurethane sealant and food residues that detach during freeze–thaw cycles; they float, sink, then harden in the duck-bill [Elektroda, Kanapa7, post #20442034]

How often should I perform preventive cleaning?

Forum users report re-blockage every 3–5 months [Elektroda, Weeman42217, post #17156678] Samsung recommends checking the drain every six months during routine filter changes [Samsung Care Guide, 2021].

What if the drain freezes again within weeks?

Install the revised metal-ended drain clip DA61-06796A. It conducts heater warmth into the tube, cutting freeze-ups by 70 % in lab tests [Samsung Engineering Note, 2018; Elektroda, Budrick, #17358771].

How do I replace the DA61-06796A clip?

Unplug the fridge, remove the inner back panel, slide the clip under the heater element so its tail enters the drain hole, then reassemble. Total time: 10 minutes; no soldering needed [Elektroda, Budrick, post #17358771]

Could a warped evaporator plate cause leaks?

Yes. Heavy ice can lift and bend the evaporator drip pan, misaligning the drain path [Elektroda, Budrick, post #17358582] If distortion exceeds 3 mm, replace the pan or the issue will persist.

Is forcing the door open really linked to leaks?

Yes. Pulling against the vacuum can flex inner liners, dislodging ice into the drain path. Waiting five minutes equalises pressure and avoids spill-overs [Elektroda, dalia45, post #19481845]

What is an edge-case failure I should watch for?

If the defrost heater fails, ice can block the drain within 48 h and the freezer temp may rise above –8 °C without showing an error [Samsung Service Manual, 2019].

When should I call a professional or consider a new fridge?

If blockage recurs monthly even after installing the metal clip, or if the evaporator pan is cracked, repairs cost €120–€180. A new A+++ 300 L unit averages €550 [EU Market Report, 2022], so replacement may be cheaper.
