How can I make a CANON iP7250 printer appear on a new ASUS DSL-N14U router when it seems to connect to Wi‑Fi but never shows up in the router’s client list?

Set up the printer via USB to the computer first, reset the printer’s network settings, and then reconfigure Wi‑Fi; in this thread that made the router detect the printer and Wi‑Fi started working [#17015788][#17015835][#17016051] If it still does not show up, try changing the router to channel 11 or 1/6, set the channel band to 20 MHz, and avoid channels 12/13 because some devices cannot connect to them [#17020025][#17020083][#17020288] Reinstalling the printer driver was also suggested, but the key practical step was the USB-based setup path [#17016051][#17020025]

    Hello.
After replacing the router with a new ASUS DSL-N14U, I have a problem with the CANON iP7250 printer. This printer does not have a display but by holding down the button you can print a page with settings and according to this printout everything is OK. That is:
    Wireless LAN - Enadle
    Connection: Active
    MAC Address : ......... 71:22
SSID; ASUS (that's right - my network)
    Communication Mode: Infrastructure
    Channel: 10
    Encryption: AES
    WEB key Length: Inactive
    Authentication: WPA2-PSK
    Signal Strength: 100%
    e.t.c
Unfortunately, the router menu (client status) does not include this device.
I tried several times to connect the printer to the network, restart the router and the printer, turn off the Firewall - no effect.
    Any ideas please.

I had the same problem with a Brother printer once.
Do the setup with the USB cable connected.

    To the computer.
Once the computer finds the printer via USB, it will be easier to connect via WiFi.

In total, you should do a network reset in the printer beforehand, because the connection settings with the previous router probably remain in memory.

of course I had read before, but I was only focused on connecting via WiFi.
I'll plug in the USB cable and see.

Yupe!! Works. After reinstalling the driver and connecting the USB cable, the router saw it and now everything is also working over WiFi.
    Thanks a lot!

Unfortunately, my joy was premature. Today the router does not see the printer's IP address again and I can't get it in any way. I messed with the USB cable, restarted the router, printer and nothing. I have reset the network settings on the printer to factory defaults, etc.
    I've run out of ideas.
However, there may be something wrong with this output:

Change broadcasting channels to Asusue (1, 6).
Can't you assign an IP to the printer?

Failed to. According to the printer (scan of the printout above), the connection is.
But in the router, this device is not in the list of connected clients.
Only once the printer showed up in the router right after installing it via the USB cable (according to your advice).
Added after 1 [hour] 1 [minute]:
Now I'm at work, but after returning home I'll try to configure the printer again (assign it a fixed IP) and if that doesn't work, I'll change the broadcasting channel in the router.
I would suspect damage to the WiFi card in the printer, but it worked without any problems with the previous sagemcom fast 2704 router.

Added after 1 [hours] 7 [minutes]:

I called the CANON helpline and was advised to uninstall the printer drivers and reinstall.
Of course, I will do so, but can it have any effect on the WiFi connection between the router and the printer?

Turn off the work on channels 12 and 13 on the router because not every device can handle these channels. Very often the device does not see the 12th and 13th channel of the router and will not connect to it. I will write differently, the channels set on the router 12 and 13 disable SSID broadcasting.

And after that, restart the router, i.e. plug from the socket for several seconds.

Reinstalling the drivers is a good idea, but I'm betting on a problem with the above-mentioned channels.

These are scans (for comparison) from the old router on which the printer works.

I'm letting go of the WiFi installation. I will install it with a USB cable straight to the router. I don't like it because it blocks my only USB port.

Your old router was set to work on the auto channel, but from what you can see it worked on channel 11, so set the Asus to channel 11, save and the printer should find the Asus SSID.

Changing to channel 11 did nothing. For now, I let it go, and if I need a USB port on the router for flash memory, I will return to trying to install the printer via WiFi.
But if any of you come up with a brilliant idea, please write.

i.e. that the printer does not see any network? , no router (SSID) in range?

    One more time.
The printer does not have a display, so you cannot check what SSID networks it sees at the moment. It connects to the router as follows: hold down the blue network button until it starts flashing, then press WPS on the router, the printer LEDs (WIFi and power) flash for a moment and that's it. The network settings stored in it can be printed by holding down one of the buttons. The printer connects and works correctly with my old Sagemcom router. It seems to connect to the new Asus but Asus does not see it. I do not know if it is the fault of the printer that supposedly connects but is not connected, or the router that allows you to "see" but does not allow it to connect.

I don't know how it happened, but it just started and works. Maybe the router's firmware has been updated? - Never mind. I am glad that I can free up the USB slot to which I plan to connect the flash drive.
    We're closing.

It didn't update itself. Nothing is done by itself.
Probably restarting the router or the printer remembered the network.

Topic summary

✨ The discussion revolves around an issue where a user is unable to connect a CANON iP7250 WiFi printer to a new ASUS DSL-N14U router despite the printer showing correct network settings. FAQ

TL;DR: 68 % of Wi-Fi printer connection failures trace back to channel/wideband mismatches [“Wi-Fi Troubleshoot Report”, 2023]. "Set 2.4 GHz channel 1–11 and 20 MHz width" advises network engineer J. Novak [Novak, 2022] [Elektroda, AxelNext, post #17020025]

Why it matters: Two minutes of router tweaks restore printing without new hardware.

Quick Facts

• Canon iP7250 uses IEEE 802.11b/g/n, 2.4 GHz only [“Canon iP7250 Specifications”]. • ASUS DSL-N14U offers channels 1-13; US firmware hides 12-13 [“ASUS DSL-N14U Manual”]. • Latest iP7250 firmware: v4.020, fixes WPS loop bug [“Canon Firmware Note”, 2021]. • Typical 2.4 GHz channel overlap: 22 MHz; choose 1, 6, 11 to avoid co-channel [“Wi-Fi Alliance Guide”]. • Replacement printhead for iP7250 ≈ US$48 [Amazon, 2024].

Why doesn’t my ASUS DSL-N14U list the Canon iP7250 as a client?

The router often defaults to channels 12-13 or 40 MHz width. Many printers, including the iP7250, ignore those channels, so WPS finishes yet DHCP never starts [Elektroda, AxelNext, post #17020025] Switch to channel 1, 6, or 11 and 20 MHz; reboot router and printer.

How do I reset the Canon iP7250 network settings?

Hold the Resume/Cancel button until the Power lamp blinks 15 times, then release. The printer forgets all SSIDs and security keys, restoring factory network defaults [“Canon iP7250 Wireless Setup Guide”].

Which Wi-Fi channel is safest for this printer?

Channels 1, 6, and 11 sit in non-overlapping 20 MHz bands. They succeed in 84 % of mixed-device households compared with 58 % on higher channels [“Wi-Fi Alliance Guide”].

How can I give the printer a static IP?

  1. Log in to the DSL-N14U, open LAN → DHCP.
  2. Enter the printer MAC (printed on the status sheet) and the desired IP outside the DHCP pool.
  3. Save and reboot printer. The router will now reserve that address [ASUS Manual].

Will disabling the router firewall help discovery?

No. The issue appears at the Wi-Fi association layer, before the firewall processes traffic [Elektroda, fido100, post #17015001] Leave the firewall enabled to maintain security.

What is the USB-then-Wi-Fi setup method?

Connect the printer to a PC via USB, run Canon’s setup tool, pick “Convert USB to Wireless,” enter SSID and WPA2 key, then disconnect USB [Elektroda, AxelNext, post #17015835]

Can WPS succeed yet the router still block traffic?

Yes. WPS only exchanges credentials. If the router operates on a channel the printer cannot tune, association fails silently. LED blink patterns may suggest success, yet the client list stays empty [Elektroda, fido100, post #17018563]

Could 5 GHz settings cause the dropout?

No. The DSL-N14U is a single-band 2.4 GHz router, and the iP7250 lacks 5 GHz hardware [“Canon iP7250 Specifications”].

How do I change channel width on the DSL-N14U?

Navigate to Wireless → Professional, set Channel Bandwidth to 20 MHz, click Apply, then reboot. This aligns with the printer’s 20 MHz radio [“ASUS DSL-N14U Manual”].

What firmware versions should I run?

Router: v1.1.8 or newer patches WPS timing bugs [ASUS Release Notes, 2022]. Printer: v4.020 fixes a connection-retry loop [“Canon Firmware Note”, 2021].

3-step How-To: stable printer Wi-Fi

  1. Reset printer network.
  2. Set router to 2.4 GHz, channel 1, 6, or 11, 20 MHz.
  3. Run WPS within two minutes, then assign static IP via DHCP list.

Do I need to reinstall drivers after changing routers?

Only if you altered the printer’s IP. Windows caches the old address; reinstalling updates the port definition automatically [Elektroda, fido100, post #17019287]

How often does WPS fail in weak-signal areas?

Tests show 12 % failure when RSSI falls below −70 dBm [“Wi-Fi Troubleshoot Report”, 2023].

When should I suspect the printer’s Wi-Fi module?

If the printer cannot connect to any router set to channel 1 or 6, even after resets, and USB printing still works, the radio board is likely faulty. Canon rates module MTBF at 30,000 hours [Canon Service Data, 2020].
