    Hi,

Recently, I have one refrigerator that has not been used for a few months. I set it to the minimum (= warmest) temperature and it consumes just over 1kWh per month. I wanted to defrost it completely and disconnect it from the power supply, but one of my friends began to convince me that it was a bad idea - it is better to let the refrigerator run once and then to turn it off, especially since the electricity consumption is minimal. What do you think about it? Because that opinion surprised me a lot. I will add that the refrigerator is about two-year-old Samsung.

Of course, you can unplug it and leave it with the door open / ajar after washing, provided that it stands in a dry place. If the storage room is damp, it is better for her to work sometimes.

This is a valid concept. A refrigerator is not a wine that the longer it is used, the better.

Personally, since 2007 I have been using (twice a year on big holidays) a cheap, post-complaint Premiere refrigerator (Amica from German Aldik) and it works without any comments.
But just like colleagues write, it must be open and it doesn't hurt to run sometimes. For me, it is at room temperature with normal humidity.

With the storage turned off, there is such a catch that someone will close the door one day or something will disappear depending on the place of stationing.
There is such a problem with working in a cool place that when the temperature drops below a certain temperature, the control may go down and not turn it on.

There is no risk of accidental closure. I am more wondering if long-term non-use will harm the generator.

It won't hurt the chiller. But if it is thoroughly washed, it will not be an unpleasant odor and it will appear

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around the long-term storage of a two-year-old Samsung refrigerator that has been unused for several months. The user contemplates whether to power off the refrigerator after defrosting or to keep it running at a minimal temperature, which consumes just over 1kWh per month. Responses suggest that it is acceptable to unplug the refrigerator, provided it is cleaned and left ajar in a dry environment. Some participants emphasize that running the refrigerator occasionally can prevent odors and maintain its condition, while others caution about potential issues if the refrigerator is stored in a damp or excessively cool location. Overall, the consensus leans towards unplugging it after proper cleaning, with occasional running recommended to avoid unpleasant smells.
