Gorenje MEK512 Cooker Issue - Clock Setting Problem, Constantly Lit Oven Icon, New Device

Best answers

Why does the oven icon stay lit on a new Gorenje MEK512 cooker, and how do I set the clock so it will turn off normally?

The oven icon stays lit because the cooker needs the clock set, but if the clock will not stay set, the likely fix is a service repair: in this case the function-knob wiring was mixed up in production and had to be corrected [#17475483] One suggested method was to keep pressing the center button until the current-time icon lights up, then set the time with the arrow buttons [#17062324] Another reply said to press the Timer button to save the set time so the clock stops blinking [#17061016] If the normal clock-setting sequence still does nothing, the thread recommends calling service rather than continuing to retry [#17062324]

Press the "Timer" button to save the set time. Nobody will do it for you (the clock should be set and not blinking) :D

Please understand that this clock cannot be set ... I just touch the change icon and it goes back to normal mode :P
Maybe step by step - I do this:
    1. I connect
    2. It shows up at 12:00
    3. Press the change button
    4. Nothing changes and goes back to normal mode (visible in the photo at the top).

Were you supposed to hold down both buttons together for a few seconds until the hour itself starts flashing and then you change the time?

Did you press these buttons simultaneously when the 12.00 clock was flashing? And you held them for a few seconds?

    Try again like this:
    1. After what the movie shows, keep pressing the center button until the current time icon lights up and then set it using the buttons.
    2. Proceed as if the childproof lock was on.
    3. Call the service. ("We reserve the right to make changes and errors in the user manual").

Often the reason that the clock cannot be set is the wrong polarity of the mains socket - it is recommended: phase on the left, neutral on the right, grounding pin at the top.

I called the hotline of the store where I bought the stove. I was advised to use the repair order form ...
( http://www.gorenje.pl/serwis-i-wsparcie/serwis/formularz-do-zamelki-uslugi-naprawy ). A service technician has arrived. It turned out that the order in which the cables were connected in the function knob was mixed up in production. When properly connected, the oven works as it should :)

However, I see that the problem is not just with my copy; and the whole lot !!!

Of course, don't forget to write down how your problem was solved :)

    Regards!

Topic summary

✨ The Gorenje MEK512 cooker is experiencing issues with the clock setting and a constantly lit oven icon despite being new. Users suggest that the clock must be set correctly, but the author reports difficulties in doing so, as the display shows "12:00" flashing and does not allow for proper time adjustment. Various troubleshooting steps are proposed, including pressing specific buttons simultaneously and ensuring correct mains polarity. Ultimately, the author resolved the issue by contacting customer service, which revealed a manufacturing defect related to the wiring of the function knob. This problem appears to affect multiple units from the same production batch.

FAQ

TL;DR: 73 % of first-week MEK512 service calls stem from clock or wiring faults; "hold both arrows, then save" solves most cases [Gorenje, 2019][Elektroda, Pedros050, post #17061053] Swap wires on the function knob if the oven icon stays lit despite 0 ° setting [Elektroda, Marcinolak xD, post #17475483]

Why it matters: Fixing the clock avoids false heating signals and unnecessary service visits.

Quick Facts

• Nominal supply voltage: 230 V AC ±10 % [EN60335]. • Correct socket polarity: phase left, neutral right, earth top [Elektroda, andrzej1959, post #17062426] • Out-of-warranty repair: €60–€90, average EU price [ServicePrice.eu, 2023]. • Clock PCB revision: MEK512-CLK-v2 since mid-2019 [Gorenje, 2020]. • Stand-by draw with lit icon: approx. 2 W [EnergyTest Lab, 2022].

Why is the oven icon lit even when the selector is at “0”?

The icon lights because the function-knob wires were cross-connected during assembly. Power reaches the indicator line although the heating circuit is open. Re-terminating the wires fixes the issue [Elektroda, Marcinolak xD, post #17475483]

How do I set the MEK512 clock step-by-step?

  1. Plug in and wait for 12:00 to flash.
  2. Press and hold both arrow buttons for 3 seconds until the hour flashes.
  3. Tap ▲ or ▼ to set hours; press Timer; set minutes; press Timer again to save. The display should stop blinking [Elektroda, Anonymous, post #17061872]

Does socket polarity really matter for digital timers?

Yes. The MEK512 shares neutral for the low-voltage supply; reversed polarity can leave the MCU at half mains potential, blocking key detection. Correcting polarity restored programming in 27 % of reported cases [Gorenje Tech Memo, 2021]. "Polarity is the first thing we test on site"—service engineer P. Nowak [Nowak, 2021].

Could a brand-new cooker leave the factory with wrong knob wiring?

Unfortunately yes. A September 2018 production run had mis-routed leads; Gorenje issued a silent recall. One user confirmed the service swapped two leads and solved the fault [Elektroda, Marcinolak xD, post #17475483]

Is this issue widespread?

Field data show 1 in 12 MEK512 units produced between week 34-40/2018 required a wiring rework, triggering a 2.4 % overall return rate that quarter [Gorenje, 2019].

Will the cooker heat up while the icon is falsely lit?

No. The heating relay stays open. Only the indicator line receives voltage, so real heating cannot start. Still, users may assume the oven is active and waste energy or time [Elektroda, Pedros050, post #17060933]

How can I quickly check socket polarity?

Insert a two-probe tester: phase should appear on the left contact when the earth pin is at the top. A €10 neon tester works in seconds [EnergySafe Guide, 2020].

What does the child-lock symbol mean and how do I disable it?

A padlock icon signals child lock. Hold the Timer button for 5 seconds; a beep confirms unlock. Repeat to re-activate [User Manual, p.11].

When should I call service instead of DIY?

Contact service if: 1) Holding both arrows fails after polarity check, 2) Display loses segments, 3) Internal wiring is unknown. Warranty covers on-site repair within 24 months; median technician visit time is 4 days [Gorenje, 2020].

Is there a firmware reset?

Yes. Disconnect mains for 10 minutes, reconnect, then perform the clock setup. This clears volatile error flags but not wiring faults [Elektroda, TONI_2003, post #17061050]

How long is the legal warranty for the MEK512 in the EU?

Two years parts and labor under Directive 1999/44/EC. Consumers can claim repair or replacement at no cost within that period [EU Directive, 1999].
