    Automatic folding of mirrors in the Seat Ibiza 6L with comfort module 6Q1 937 049 D

    A year ago, together with colleague Jarek, communicating at a distance, we installed in his Ibiza 6L from 2006 the automatic folding of mirrors. The function works to this day, that's why I want to share my knowledge with you.

    The circuits that I present work with cars:
    - with original folding mirrors,
    - with those who do not have them,
    - as well as those where the folding option has stopped working.

    To run the automatic folding mirror you need the original VAG relay 4A0907440 [361], which supports this option. The relay should be plugged into the original installation between the mirror controller located at the window opening motor and the outside mirror.

    If someone wants to add folding mirrors, simply buy mirrors with folding motors + 361+ relay additional elements that are listed below.
    - one 12V type NC relay (normally closed) or two 12V type NC relay (normally closed) or two 12V type NC relay (normally closed) + two 12V type NO relay (normally open) - depending on the selected operating option,
    - switch (winter switch) type 0-1 or switch (winter switch + joystick) 1-0-2 - depending on the folding option selected.

    Connecting the relay to the installation makes it impossible to fold the mirrors from the original joystick. The original folding installation is cut off.

    Description of the 361 relay contacts:
    15 (4) power supply + 12V;
    ME (5) power for folding motor;
    31 (6) mass;
    MA (8) power supply for folding motor;
    SE (12) ground control;
    RA (14) not used

    I have developed three options for folding the mirrors:

    1. Automatic mirror folding function after removing the key from the ignition (after inserting the key into the ignition and turning to position 1 the mirrors will unfold).
    Needed diagrams:
    - automatic folding of mirrors with the ignition switch (winter switch),
    +
    - automatic folding with the ignition switch - relay P1.
    It is possible to add joystick functions instead of the first diagram from step 1:
    - automatic folding of mirrors with the ignition switch (winter switch + joystick)
    The rest remains the same.

    2. Remote mirror folding function after closing the central locking using the remote control (the mirrors will unfold when the central locking is opened).
    Needed diagrams:
    - automatic folding of mirrors by remote control (winter switch),
    +
    - automatic folding by remote control - relay P1 and P2.
    It is possible to add a joystick function instead of the first diagram from step 2:
    - automatic folding of mirrors using the remote control (winter switch + joystick)
    The rest remains the same.

    3. Remote mirror folding function after closing the central locking using the remote control and ignition the mirrors will unfold only after inserting the key into the ignition switch and turning to position 1.
    Needed diagrams:
    - automatic folding of mirrors from the central lock and unfolding from the ignition switch (winter switch),
    +
    - automatic folding from the central lock and unfolding from the ignition - relay P1, P2, P3, P4.
    It is possible to add joystick functions instead of the first diagram from step 3 this:
    - automatic folding of mirrors from the central door and unfolding from the ignition (winter switch + joystick)
    The rest remains the same.

    Hello. I searched all over the net but did not find it. Please excuse me for attaching to this topic. I am the owner of the Seat Altea TDI (2004). The comfort module is 1K0 959 433 BL. I was interested in the possibility of folding mirrors from the remote control. I have read posts on this subject and I see that it is possible. I note that I have the option of folding / unfolding the mirrors using the Joystick. The remote control does not work either after a long press or several times or otherwise. There is also no possibility in VAG coding (Bortnez does not support this function - it is probably 8 bits). I see that I have to install two 361 relays next to the driver and passenger door modules (mirror folding motors are 2 wires), but I have a problem with which pins to attach additional relays in the comfort module. I found a description for Leon / Toledo and Ibiza but there are other comfort modules. Can anyone help me

    For individual mirror folding, one 361 relay is enough. However, remember that folding the mirrors with the joystick will no longer work. Errors will also pop up when connecting the computer with folding mirrors.
    If you know how to use the meter, you will be able to find the right signals.

    One 361 relay is probably not enough, each door has an individual controller module and mirror folding motors are connected to it. Yes, you can control both mirrors with one relay but I would have to route the cables (two) from the mirror folding motor from the passenger door to the driver's door. Of course I can be wrong. As for the error popping up, I was a bit worried (maybe there is some way to block these errors). The problem is that after some time the comfort module goes to sleep and then there is minimal power consumption. If the module will be awakened all the time due to detection of irregularities (unless I guess it wrong), then more current will be consumed all the time and the battery will discharge faster at a standstill (somewhere I read just such a post that the reason for discharging the battery was the comfort module, which computer woke up a moment). The next question is about the joystick - although you wrote that the use of this system disables the joystick operation, but then what is written in the title of the "winter-joystick" schemes. And so I think why not mess with the signal directly from the joystick. If after moving the joystick knob to the mirror folding position a signal comes out of it (probably pin 2 on the joystick as ground and pin 5 just the folding mirror signal), then theoretically enough to give the ground signal to pin 5 (and here is a bit of a problem because between ground and pin 5 in this joystick are resistors, which, after all, can be measured as to their value) by some system of relays from the impulse, e.g. closing the door and everything to work and the joystick to continue to work as it works. I don't know if I combine well, but that's what the forums are for

    Alright. As I wrote above, these are only my assumptions, not statements, so I think there is no matter and please do not be offended. I sat on the diagram of the installation of Seat Altea and came up with the idea how to simplify the folding of the mirrors even more and came up with though I have not yet tested it in practice. I think that my idea will suit all installations that have folding mirrors only from the joystick. The joystick has 6 pins. After turning it to the mirror folding position, pin 2 (ground) and pin 5 are shorted, i.e. the ground is given on pin 5. So that it is now possible to fold the mirrors after turning the ignition off or unfolding after turning the ignition on - all you have to do is put the weight on pin 5 (to fold) or disconnect this mass (to fold the mirrors apart). Of course there is one more pin (1) which must also be controlled when unfolded. It is easy to do with one relay with two pairs of switched contacts. The coil of this relay - one end to ground and the other to plus after turning the key. The relay contacts will switch pins 1 and 5 on the joystick (if I have a moment I will draw and attach the diagram). In this way, control from the joystick as well as automatic folding and folding of the mirrors with the ignition key are preserved. So it's very easy to connect and less complicated. However, I am asking you for patience because I have not checked this idea in practice, although I think it is correct. I will think how to expand this idea further so that you can control the key without special modules. Oh, and for those who are interesting, I give you the joystick pins connection 1 - mirror tilt control, 2-mass, 3 - mirror heating control, 4 - empty, 5 - mirror tilt control and mirror folding, 6 - joystick LED backlight (+). As you can see pin 5 has many meanings depending on the joystick's rotation. Maybe it will be useful to someone.

    At the beginning I wanted to say that one of the automotive programs on television inspired me to act, in which it was shown how to assemble the possibility of folding mirrors using the remote control. Unfortunately, it only concerned a specific car model using the factory-made module. Well, I started to search on Internet forums, if someone for my car did not come up with such a thing already. Unfortunately for Altea, although there were a few tips on a principle - it should work with the key after a long press and the possible VCDS coding is nothing specific because I just did not work these tips. However, full modernization of the car by adding new modules or replacing the on-board computer with a more advanced one was out of the question. And I came across some ideas on Elektroda, but for other car models. And it inspired me if it couldn't be solved more simply. Because if you can fold the mirrors with the joystick, the whole thing lies in just forcing the joystick to change (change connections) depending on the ignition key. For now, I tried to solve the problem of folding only with the ignition key, but someday I'll think of this possibility also with the remote control. I just suppose that I have to get to the comfort module here.
    The first part of my idea is relatively simple. I have a mirror switch (joystick) mounted in the center console and it is relatively easy to disassemble it. I drew the connection diagram (attached) to obtain the folding and unfolding of the side mirrors additionally from the ignition key. I would like to emphasize once again that it applies to the Altea from 2004 TDI, which has the option of folding the side mirrors using only the joystick. I do not enter here other options depending on the car model, because I think that this scheme can also be used, but I leave it to the owners of other models of the VAG group (WW, SEAT, SKODA or AUDI). My idea is an alternative to other ideas and in no other way does it offend it - it's for the sake of accuracy.
    So I explain what this idea is about. The cube with wires that is connected to the joystick has 6 pins. Of course, not all pins are used depending on the model, because, for example, someone has no heated mirrors, pin 3 will not have a connection.
    Just cut the wires from pin 1 and from pin 5 and connect between the cut wires relay with two pairs of switched contacts. On the other hand, connect the relay coil to the ground and the other to the plus key. It would be good to install a diode on the contacts of the relay coil in order to suppress surges. I used a 12V relay bought in an electronics store only because it is smaller (the load on the contacts is minimal at the milliampere level), but you can also use a car relay that has two pairs of switched contacts. Additionally, a switch can be used. winter, when you do not want the mirrors to fold (frozen, snowy) after turning off the ignition.
    And now this is how the system works. After switching on the ignition voltage is applied to the relay coil, the contacts of one pair and the contacts of the other pair are closed and the system goes into the state as if nothing was changed, i.e. factory (now it is possible to fold the mirrors using the joystick manually or remain unfolded if the joystick is in another position than folding mirrors). When we turn the ignition off, the relay coil releases the relay contacts, i.e. it connects the contacts of the first pair and the contacts of the second pair. The contacts now give an impulse from the leg 2 to the cable (19) as long as the "winter" switch is closed and the mirrors are folded, regardless of the position of the joystick. After switching on the ignition, the coil of the relay is energized again and the contacts switch, disconnecting from the 19 oin 2 wire and the mirrors unfold (condition that the joystick is not in the folded mirror position). As you can see it is very simple and not much needs to be changed in the installation of the car.
    1- plug foot is to control the tilt of the mirrors
    2 - the plug foot is a ground pulse
    3 - the plug's leg is to enable mirror heating, if any
    4 - plug leg not used
    5 - the plug leg has two functions: mirror tilting control and mirror folding
    6 - the plug's leg is the backlight of the joystick controlled by lights by passing plus

    I would also like to point out that the plug's 2 leg, even though it is an impulse of mass, we cannot connect the mass of the relay to it. The mass of the relay coil must be connected to a constant mass (screw, nut or ground cable, e.g. cigarette lighter socket - I used this one)
    Now the description for the drawing.
    I used a relpol RM84 relay for 12V with two pairs of switched contacts. Parallel to the coil I connected the diode 1N4007 eliminating surges, but it can be any diode as long as the voltage was at least 400V - please pay attention to the connected diode direction must be an arrow / mark on the diode or strip / to the plus. Any "winter" switch - in the closed position folding of mirrors works when the ignition is switched off and in the open position it goes into the state as without modification, i.e. when the ignition is turned off the mirrors will not fold unless you turn the joystick into the folding position. I gave numbers at the ends (4, 19 and 20) of the wires for orientation for those who will combine for other car models. These numbers are pins on my car's (386) driver's door module.
    And that's it in this topic. If anyone has an idea to expand this system with the ability to control the keys from the remote control, please let me know. Remote control, but separate - additional is relatively easy to do. At Allegro, for a small amount of money, we can buy a remote control with an executive module (it is important that the executive module is on 12V) and install it to the above method only that we will have two remote controls, one for the door and the other for controlling the mirrors. Well, but this solution is very simple and does not interfere much in the installation of the car. However, if we want to fold and unfold the mirrors using the factory remote control for the door, I think that you will have to combine with the comfort module and this will be a little more complicated even getting to this module and looking for the right pin from which the impulse is given to the door locks.
    I installed the system and it works without any problem in my car.

    Hello.
    I am just adding electrically folding mirrors and I have a problem. I chose the option of folding / unfolding after the signal of the lock's control panel.
    The option itself works fine, unfortunately it has a strange effect.
    When the engine is started, the mirrors begin to fold and then, immediately after the key is released, they unfold again.
    In addition, I do not know if this option is also correct. I open the car, the mirrors unfold, I leave the driver's door open.
    Some time passes, after which the mirrors fold by themselves. Closing the driver's door and reopening it back opens the mirrors.
    Is this the correct behavior or did I kick something during assembly?

    It is possible to act temporarily because the polarity changes momentarily.

    you close the central locking - the mirrors fold up immediately;
    you close the central locking, but some doors are open - the mirrors will not fold up;
    you close the door - the mirrors fold after a certain time
    you open the door - the mirrors unfold immediately.
    If the mirrors fold with the driver's door open, you have a problem with the limit switch in the cassette.

    Krancowki topic is over and it's okey.
    Unfortunately, this polarity change at start-up is unacceptable to me.
    Can you describe under what circumstances and what type of signals are there on both control cables from BSI?

    Hello, the question is whether you need a joy to fold and do you use it because I DO NOT AND NEVER, so I cut off the wires for folding the mirrors from the door modules from the door of the driver and the passenger - I drove them inside - I made a separate module and now it works, I close with the remote control the factory mirrors fold, I open the remote control I get in - I fire the car the mirrors unfold. smiga a few years, best regards !!

FAQ

TL;DR: 12+ months proven; “Connecting the relay makes it impossible to fold from the original joystick.” Use 1 OEM 361 relay and 3 wiring options to add auto-fold/unfold via ignition and/or central locking on Seat Ibiza 6L (comfort 6Q1 937 049 D). [Elektroda, _carlos-, post #17091695]

Why it matters: This FAQ helps Ibiza 6L and similar VAG owners add reliable, OEM-like mirror auto-folding without guesswork or coding.

Quick Facts

What relay do I need and where does it connect?

Use the OEM VAG 4A0 907 440 (361) relay. Insert it between the window motor’s mirror controller and the outside mirror. It works on cars with factory folding, without it, or where folding failed. Add 12V NC/NO relays and a winter switch depending on your chosen mode. This keeps the wiring near door modules and avoids coding. [Elektroda, _carlos-, post #17091695]

Will my factory joystick still fold mirrors after adding the 361?

No. With the 361 solution, “folding the mirrors with the joystick will no longer work.” Scan tools may also show errors when folding mirrors are connected. Plan your install knowing the OEM joystick folding gets cut off by design. [Elektroda, _carlos-, post #17546417]

How do I wire the 361 relay—what do the pins do?

Pin functions are: 15 (+12V supply), 31 (ground), MA and ME (outputs to the folding motor), SE (ground-trigger control), RA (not used). Feed 15 from a fused +12V, bond 31 to chassis ground, route MA/ME inline to the mirror motor leads, and trigger SE with the selected control (ignition or central locking). [Elektroda, _carlos-, post #17091695]

What operating modes can I implement on Ibiza 6L?

Three modes are documented: 1) Ignition-only: fold on key out, unfold at key position 1. 2) Remote-only: fold on central lock close, unfold on open (requires P1 and P2 relays). 3) Remote fold + Ignition unfold: fold on lock, unfold only at key position 1 (uses P1–P4). [Elektroda, _carlos-, post #17091695]

Can I fold/unfold via the factory remote (central locking)?

Yes. Use the remote-only option. Tie the relay control so the mirrors fold after central locking closes and unfold when it opens. This uses additional logic relays (P1 and P2) to separate lock and unlock triggers and drive the 361’s control input correctly. [Elektroda, _carlos-, post #17091695]

How do I wire Option 2 (remote-only) in practice?

  1. Insert the 361 between the door module’s mirror controller and the mirror motor.
  2. Feed +12V and ground to pins 15 and 31; route MA/ME to the motor; leave RA unused.
  3. Drive SE using lock/unlock outputs via P1–P2 so lock folds and unlock unfolds. [Elektroda, _carlos-, post #17091695]

Why do my mirrors fold during engine start, then immediately unfold?

That behavior comes from a momentary polarity change during cranking. The control sees a brief fold command and then the normal state restores. “It is possible to act temporarily because the polarity changes momentarily.” Capture the signals during start to confirm. [Elektroda, _carlos-, post #19000227]

What’s the correct behavior if a door is open while locking?

Expected logic: close central locking and the mirrors fold. If a door is open, folding is delayed. Close the door and, after a short time, folding occurs. Open a door and the mirrors unfold immediately. If they fold with the driver’s door open, check the limit switch in the cassette. [Elektroda, _carlos-, post #19000227]

Can I keep manual joystick control and add ignition-based auto folding?

Yes, by intercepting the joystick in models that fold via joystick (e.g., Altea 2004). Cut pins 1 and 5 and insert a 12V DPDT relay powered by ignition. Add a winter switch and a 1N4007 across the coil. The joystick harness has 6 pins and contact currents are at the milliamp level. “I installed the system and it works without any problem in my car.” [Elektroda, Wiesio55, post #17557177]

Do I need one 361 relay per door?

No. One 361 relay can drive mirror folding. You do not need two 361 units. Note that using the 361 solution disables joystick folding, so plan accordingly when consolidating wiring at the driver’s side. [Elektroda, _carlos-, post #17546417]

How should I troubleshoot the control signals from the comfort module?

Measure them. The start sequence and lock/unlock lines can vary, and descriptions won’t replace direct testing. Use a DMM or scope at both control wires to see polarity and timing, then adjust your relay logic. “Just a meter and measurements.” [Elektroda, _carlos-, post #19003604]

Can I build a separate module and ignore the joystick entirely?

Yes. One approach is to cut the folding wires from both door modules, route them to your module, and drive the motors directly. Close with the factory remote to fold, open or ignite to unfold. This setup has run reliably for years, according to one installer. [Elektroda, SKRZYNIA, post #19034092]

Do the folding motors typically use two wires per door module?

Typical VAG folding motors use two wires per side at the door module. This simplifies custom module designs and relay polarity reversal. Confirm your harness before building, as variants exist across models and years. [Elektroda, Wiesio55, post #17546018]

What does the SE pin on the 361 do, and how do I trigger it?

SE is the ground-trigger control input. Pull SE to ground to command the 361 to drive the folding motor via MA/ME. Use ignition, central locking, or relay logic (P1–P4) to produce clean ground pulses for your chosen mode. Leave RA unused. [Elektroda, _carlos-, post #17091695]
