    Hi :)

I bought a flat from the developer. I have 3 ethernet sockets in the apartment and outside the apartment - in the staircase - I have a teletechnical box in which there are 5 ethernet sockets, fiber optics, concentrators for TV / SAT. I would like to make a LAN in the flat and I have a problem how to do it.

Is it normal to install the router in a staircase so that I have a network in every outlet in the apartment? I do not know what the practices are because I encountered something like this for the first time.

Is it better not to give anything to this box and instead establish a point in the apartment, which will be the focal point, release WAN from it to the box and then put the router in the apartment at this point and pull cables to all rooms from it?

Lockable box. Each flat has its own inbox. As for the net, I don't know yet how it will be connected because there is currently no supplier in the building.

As closed it is not a problem you can configure in different ways.
By buying, for example, the Internet from an LTE provider, you mount your router on your switch cage and you have access to the Internet in all outlets in the apartment.

By buying the internet from this fiber optic provider, mounting the modem / router in the box on the cage and you continue to separate the internet with a switch on the sockets. In the apartment, you can connect an additional wireless router to one of the sockets to have a good wireless coverage in the apartment.

Are you sure you only need a switch in the box when the net is made of fiber? Usually, the provider assigns one IP to the router's MAC, how will it work if I plug the switch directly into the modem? Can I have a router in my apartment in any room?

It depends how the supplier and what he gives out to customers. You often get a modem with a wireless router but you can also get an ONT or fiber optic module where you must use your router with a WAN port. With this cable / network configuration, you can always come up with something you just have to decide on a specific Internet provider.

It all depends on the supplier and what device you will receive. Do you also have optical fiber in your apartment or just in the box?

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around setting up a Local Area Network (LAN) in a new apartment with multiple Ethernet sockets and a teletechnical box containing additional Ethernet ports and fiber optics. The user inquires about the feasibility of placing the router in the staircase to provide network access to all outlets in the apartment versus establishing a central point within the apartment for better control and connectivity. Responses highlight that the configuration depends on the internet service provider's setup, whether a modem/router or an Optical Network Terminal (ONT) is provided, and the necessity of using a switch for distributing the connection. The importance of understanding the provider's IP assignment and the potential for wireless coverage through additional routers is also discussed.
