Hello, how to set the timing on Opel Astra G 1.7 TD?
And I have a question, do you need to replace the head gasket when it was not removed, only the unscrewed screws?

Why did you tighten the screws? You don't do such things. As for timing, there are marks on the camshaft pulley and on the head as well as on the shaft pulley and engine block. All characters must match. Use the book "I repair myself". Very helpful. Look in google.

I did it because I had to pull out the shaft, because unfortunately the camshaft jumped and broke the levers - that's why I did it. As for the book, I will read. What, do you have to change the gasket or not?

I asked why you tightened the head bolts? What have you done As the timing has jumped, the shaft does not need to be pulled out. And the head does not need to be removed to remove the shaft (I think).
With broken levers, you have bent valve stems and maybe cracked piston crowns.

Like the screws removed, I would knock the head down, check the valves, and give a new head gasket. By the way, he checked the GMP dial gauge, protruding pistons and whether there are already large cracks between the valves ?
The injection pump and the shaft set for signs, and the camshaft for the sign (but this is indicative, because the camshaft gear has no wedge) and when the camshaft is loose, the shafts set for dial indicator. Without dial indicator it is asking for problems with starting in winter.
scheme from asters f but 99% fits

Out of curiosity, what is the reason for the failure? Sliding strip? Some "mechanic" dipped his hands there?
"Na artie" - what if it turns out that the valve has bent? Probably 4 or 5 times I was dealing with broken levers in this engine, once the valves were ok, but usually 1, 2 valves were bent.

The reason was that the belt together with the tensioner, rubbed against the timing cover, the wheel almost made a hole in the belt, the belt got loose, and jumped.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around setting the timing on an Opel Astra G 1.7 TD after a timing belt issue caused the camshaft to jump, leading to potential damage to the engine components. Participants emphasize the importance of aligning timing marks on the camshaft pulley, shaft pulley, and engine block. There is debate over whether the head gasket needs replacement if the head was not removed, with suggestions to inspect the valves and consider replacing the gasket as a precaution. The author mentions that the timing belt and tensioner had worn against the timing cover, causing the belt to loosen and jump.
