    Hello

Recently, I formatted the system and noticed that the speakers / headphones work in the system without any problems, while no application such as Skype, Discord, Teamspeak detects the microphone.
Only the microphone is heard when listening in the system, but very quietly.
I use HyperX Cloud 1 headphones with a 2m extension without a sound card.

My motherboard: MSI X470 GAMING PRO CARBON AC

I connect the headphones to the rear panel.
The headphones are working, I checked it on another computer.
The problem also occurs with another pair of headphones.

    Microphone sound format: 2ch 24 bit 48000MHz
    Microphone driver version: 10.0.17134.1
    Microphone driver date: 04/11/2018

    From the "information" field:

    Device SWD \ MMDEVAPI \ {0.0.1.00000000}. {064921ee-521d-4220-b269-3af484943cf2} was configured.
    Driver Name: audioendpoint.inf
    Class Guid: {C166523C-FE0C-4A94-A586-F1A80CFBBF3E}
    Driver Date: 04/11/2018
    Driver Version: 10.0.17134.1
    Driver Provider: Microsoft
    Driver Section: NO_DRV
    Driver Rank: 0xFF0000
Matching Device Id: MMDEVAPI \ AudioEndpoints
    Outranked Drivers: c_swdevice.inf: SWD \ GenericRaw: 00FF3001
    Device Updated: false
    Parent Device: HDAUDIO \ FUNC_01 & VEN_10EC & DEV_1168 & SUBSYS_1462CB78 & REV_1001 \ 5 & 30cf53ec & 0 & 0001

The options I have already tried:

    - driver update
    - bios update
    - boosting the microphone in the system settings
    - I checked the program settings, everything should work normally
    - I checked the settings in the realtek audio manager
    - I have not found anything in the bios that could help
    - I was removing drivers through the device manager

    Please help.

    Best regards,
    Adam

    At the beginning of:

    1. Install the drivers for the sound card from the manufacturer's website - select the correct microphone port after installation in the drivers.
    2. Check how the front of the audio panel is set in bios and if the audio panel front cable from the housing is connected.

As I wrote above - the drivers from the motherboard manufacturer's website are the latest.
Same symptoms on the front panel - the sound is there, the microphone is not working.
On the other hand, I clearly wrote that I attach to the rear panel.
I found nothing in the bios to set the sound ports.

These headphones use a condenser microphone that needs 2V to operate, so it doesn't work because the computer's sound card doesn't provide any voltage.

If a dynamic microphone were used instead of the original condenser microphone, there would be no problem with its operation.

Maybe this is the reason, but I also checked a different set of headphones and the problem also occurs with them. The second headphones are regular, cheap from the store, so I think they shouldn't be a problem regarding the voltage.

I was talking to my friends, one of them had the microphone stopped working after the last Windows update.

    Problem solved.

The re-format fixed the microphone problem on the system, probably until some update messes up again.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around a microphone issue on a Windows 10 64-bit system, specifically with HyperX Cloud 1 headphones connected to an MSI X470 GAMING PRO CARBON AC motherboard. The user reports that while audio output works fine, no applications detect the microphone, which is also very quiet when tested. Various troubleshooting steps are suggested, including installing the latest drivers from the motherboard manufacturer, checking audio settings in the Control Panel, and ensuring the correct microphone port is selected. A potential hardware limitation is mentioned, noting that the condenser microphone requires 2V to operate, which may not be provided by the sound card. Ultimately, the issue was resolved by reformatting the system, although concerns about future updates affecting microphone functionality remain.
