VCDS Interface Detection Issue: Elevator 10, Driver Installation, No COM Port Created

Best answers

How can I make VCDS detect my interface when the driver installs but no COM port is created?

VCDS does not need a COM port for this interface; it uses a USB connection, so the key is a clean reinstall of VCDS and its device drivers. Uninstall the interface from Device Manager together with its driver files, uninstall VCDS, then install the official VCDS package from the manufacturer and reconnect the cable so it can install the correct drivers automatically [#17340313] If Device Manager still shows an exclamation mark, the interface may be using an unsupported identifier such as “Ross-Tech Direct Interface” (PID_FA30), which newer drivers do not support and which can indicate a clone or a mismatched cable/driver set [#17362191] A later Win11 case also showed that disabling memory integrity protection fixed the missing-interface problem, so if you are on Win11 that is worth checking too [#21509935]

    Hello

I searched a lot of forums, but I did not solve the problem ... I have Elevator 10 and after three days I managed to install the only drivers that could be installed at all (I upload in the attachment). The problem is that the drivers that I installed did not create a COM port, and that's why VCDS can not see the interface ... I do not know what to do anymore, I'm also uploading manager's photos. The cable that I have also send a photo. greetings

After all you can see the interface on the list, what is the problem? Is this the original equipment or some Chinese clone?

When installing VCDS, I went through the installation stage of the drivers, the interface I had was working immediately, with Windows 10. Uninstall the device together with the driver files, uninstall the VCDS and install the program again. It will install the drivers and the interface will start after connecting it to the computer - only remember that the program is choosing a USB connection, not a COM port. The original moves ...

I have 100% original but I lost the plate :( I've tried it several times, after installing the drivers, and so the manager has an exclamation mark.

    Added after 54 [seconds]:

Only those Russian drivers installed the cable.

You download the program for free from the manufacturer's website. You do not even have to have an interface, it detects the originality of the hardware itself.

Works without a problem, but on win xp, the program downloaded from the producer. I gave for this wire 7 years ago PLN 600, used from a mechanic, must be the original.

he must - he does not have to. The system reports as "Ross-Tech Direct Interface", that is, PID_FA30. In new drivers, this interface is no longer supported. Personally, I have never met HEX-CAN with this PID, all of them had an FA24 which is still supported. Besides looking at the photos, I've been repairing the same Chinese clones. If you want, I will send you a program to read the interface and check this alleged originality.

Hello, I can ask for a program to check the interface? Because I also have a problem with a similar one and I see the program before connecting to the car that the status is not connected to the car and when connecting to the car does not detect the interface at all. Maybe the cable released? What is the cost of repair and how does it go?

It worked and the cable came to life. For the VAG182 version of the cable, I found the VCDS version I was interested in (21.3.0), and I also found the loader (detected as a Trojan) from Kolimer in version 9.2. The package with the loader included everything needed. I used the VAGCOM_EEWriteLang application to flash the cable connected to the OBD, and then I installed VCDS and that's it. Of course, you have to run the program with the loader connected and everything works fine. It is known that it will no longer support newer cars.

Hello, this is a bit of a dusty topic and I decided to dust it off a bit.
    At the beginning of :
Have a healthy and Merry Christmas.

Gentlemen, I have a question. I have the same cable as the author of the topic, except that the newer version, 12.12.3, works for me, but with one of my cars, specifically a VW Polo from 2004, it loses connection.
Sometimes you can connect without any problems with the engine turned off. After starting it, it works for some time and then loses connection.
Sometimes it loses connection when the engine is turned off. Then, if it loses power with the engine turned off, I have to turn the laptop off and on again to connect.
In another case, it connected without any problems with the engine running.
What could be the reason ?

The second question is whether I can update my cable to version 15..., this is what I see and can I upload the Polish language version? The cable was bought in China.

What version of VCDS would I need to download to safely install the Polish language version?
    Thank you and best regards.

Freshly purchased HEX-V2 cable from Ali. The problem was under Win11. In the system device manager, the Ross-Tech device's USB port was showing with an exclamation mark symbol. It didn't help to reinstall the software or add alternative USB drivers (I tried several different ones, newer and older, from different vendors, including those supplied with the cable).
The solution turned out to be quite simple, although not entirely elegant due to the need to disable one of the system's protections. Namely, the memory integrity protection (core isolation/core isolation) had to be turned off. After this, the interface became visible and VCDS could be used normally.

Topic summary

✨ The discussion addresses issues with detecting and using an Elevator 10 VCDS interface on Windows systems. The main problem is that after installing drivers, no COM port is created, preventing VCDS from recognizing the interface. The interface is confirmed as original but lacks the identification plate. Some users note that VCDS uses USB connections rather than COM ports for original interfaces. Attempts to reinstall drivers and VCDS software have not resolved the issue. It is mentioned that older interfaces with PID_FA30 are no longer supported by new drivers, while PID_FA24 remains supported. Solutions include uninstalling all drivers and software before reinstalling, using the official manufacturer’s VCDS version, and disabling Windows 11 memory integrity protection (core isolation) to resolve USB driver conflicts. Some users report success flashing older VAG182 cables with specific VCDS versions and loaders. The discussion also touches on problems with Chinese clone cables, compatibility with different Windows versions (XP, 10, 11), and intermittent connection losses with certain car models. Links to Polish VCDS resources and advice on verifying interface authenticity with specialized programs are provided.

FAQ

TL;DR: VCDS interface not detected? In this thread, 1/1 Windows 11 cases were fixed by disabling "memory integrity"; "memory integrity had to be turned off." After that, the interface appeared and VCDS worked normally. [Elektroda, hubig, post #21509935]

Why it matters: This FAQ helps VCDS users fix driver/interface detection on Win10/11 and identify clone or legacy hardware limits.

Quick Facts

Why doesn’t my VCDS interface create a COM port on Windows 10/11?

Modern Ross-Tech interfaces are USB devices, not serial COM adapters. In VCDS, select USB as the connection type. If the device shows with an exclamation mark, remove it with drivers and reinstall VCDS to load proper drivers. "Only remember that the program is choosing a USB connection, not a COM port." [Elektroda, siewcu, post #17340313]

How do I fix “Interface not found” after driver install?

Try a clean reinstall.
  1. In Device Manager, uninstall the Ross-Tech device and tick “delete driver software.”
  2. Uninstall VCDS from Apps/Programs.
  3. Reinstall VCDS, then connect the interface and pick USB in Options. This refresh installs the correct stack and clears conflicting drivers. [Elektroda, siewcu, post #17340313]

Device Manager shows a yellow exclamation for Ross-Tech USB on Windows 11. What now?

Windows 11 Core Isolation (Memory Integrity) can block unsigned or older drivers. Disable Memory Integrity in Windows Security, reboot, then reconnect the cable. After this, the interface should appear and VCDS should work. Re-enable protection after testing if possible. One user reported full success with this approach. [Elektroda, hubig, post #21509935]

My cable only works on Windows XP. What does that mean?

A forum user reported the cable worked perfectly on Windows XP using the manufacturer’s installer, but failed on newer systems. That suggests OS-level driver compatibility constraints or aging hardware. Use the official installer first, then evaluate upgrading the interface if modern OS support is required. [Elektroda, beniu1212, post #17343171]

Which HEX-CAN PIDs are supported by newer Ross-Tech drivers?

According to a repairer in the thread, interfaces reporting PID_FA24 remain supported. Units that report PID_FA30 are no longer supported by newer drivers. This is a classic edge-case that causes detection failures on modern Windows. Check your device PID before troubleshooting further. [Elektroda, AliYO, post #17362191]

Is my interface original or a clone—how can I check quickly?

Install VCDS from the manufacturer and connect the cable; the software detects genuine hardware. “The legal interface will work on the program downloaded from the manufacturer.” If it fails or needs a loader, suspect a clone or outdated firmware. [Elektroda, siewcu, post #17341443]

VCDS says “Not connected to car.” What should I try first?

Confirm the interface is plugged into the OBD port and the ignition is ON. Ensure VCDS is set to USB, then test the [Options] → [Test] button. Try engine-off diagnostics first to avoid voltage dips during cranking. Inspect USB power settings and try another USB port or cable. See Ross‑Tech guidance for communication checks. “Car Won’t Communicate.” [“Car Won’t Communicate”]

Where should I download VCDS safely?

Download it free from the manufacturer’s website. The installer does not require a cable to complete, and it can recognize genuine interfaces later. This avoids questionable driver packs and ensures proper USB driver installation. [Elektroda, siewcu, post #17341283]

Can I update a 12.12.3 clone to 15.x and add Polish language?

Community reports show clones often tie to specific VCDS versions and use loaders. A user revived a VAG182 clone with a loader and VCDS 21.3.0 but noted newer cars are unsupported. Updates and language packs on clones are risky and may break functionality. [Elektroda, Centris, post #20738470]

Why does my interface drop connection after I start the engine (e.g., VW Polo 2004)?

Cranking can cause voltage dips and noise that interrupt communication. Try connecting with the engine off, then start after establishing a session. Ensure a healthy battery and disable USB power savings on the laptop. Use a short, good‑quality USB cable and a stable laptop power source. See Ross‑Tech’s communication checklist. “Car Won’t Communicate.” [“Car Won’t Communicate”]

How can I read my interface’s VID/PID or other details?

Windows Device Manager can show hardware IDs. In the thread, a repairer offered a utility to read the interface to verify originality and PID. Knowing whether yours is FA24 or FA30 helps decide next steps, drivers, or replacement. [Elektroda, AliYO, post #17362191]

I installed random “Russian drivers,” but VCDS still can’t see the cable. Why?

Non‑official drivers may bind the device but remain incompatible with VCDS. Remove the device, delete those driver files, uninstall VCDS, then reinstall the official package and select USB. Avoid mixing third‑party drivers with VCDS. [Elektroda, beniu1212, post #17340352]

Will the Polish language version work with my interface?

Not always. A forum member notes the Polish build is less straightforward than the official English download. Language‑patched or region builds may not pair with certain interfaces, especially clones. Use the manufacturer’s release for best compatibility. [Elektroda, siewcu, post #17341443]

What’s a typical cost for a used genuine cable?

One user paid 600 PLN for a used interface about seven years ago. Prices vary by model and condition, but that data point helps set expectations. Weigh cost against driver support and modern OS compatibility before buying used. [Elektroda, beniu1212, post #17343171]
