Hello, connect to a computer with eg WIN 7 and it will detect the model itself. The second thing should be written somewhere on the side, the inscription is rather difficult to erase.
There is no inscription - only "SONY". "XPERIA" is displayed after power-up, during system startup. Information that the computer gets: idVendor = 0x0fce (Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB), idProduct = 0xe1aa. According to https://www.the-sz.com/products/usbid/index.php?v=0x0FCE this is D2303.
At https://support.sonymobile.com/pl/ they don't mention anything like that, but after entering D2303 into the search engine directed me to the page https://support.sonymobile.com/pl/xperiam2/ - it looks like is Xperia M2, however something in the "User Manual" does not match - page 7 says that the camera lens is 14, and it really is 13.
Each xperia originally with a sim slot or memory card should have a slide-out sticky note, plastic plate, so-called rated on which you have everything about your phone. If it's not, i.e. that it was already undressed, it is worth going to mgsm.pl and looking for the camera there after the pictures.
Maybe write which number is needed for this - there is S / N (10 characters), SI (4 digits-4 digits), 14W25, and some number 8 digits-6 digits-1 digits. That's all.
The letter and 4 digits, that is the model code e.g. D2303
There is nothing (even similar) on this "note". Or maybe there is another one?
Is the method of decoding this information described and made available on the Internet? I would like a link.
Is the D2303 one of the M2 versions? Because when I downloaded the manual to M2, it says that it is for D2303, D2305 and D2306 (with Android 5.1). How should these types be coded on this "card"?
They write in the instructions that there should be an IMEI number there; and that you can read it through Settings> About phone> Status> IMEI information.
I asked for specific information and you continued yours, you did not even write whether this phone is starting or working. Please write it, otherwise this topic doesn't make sense and there is writing for writing!
It starts up as much as possible. Apparently he is functional, I do not know him enough yet to be able to assess it - I can only say that I did not detect that something was inoperable (and that I do not know what and how it should work, it is another matter). But I left him at home, and I don't have access to him until I get back there.
I can set one of two modes of communication via USB: "disk" mode in which the phone gives access to the micro-SD card (there is no), and "media" mode for which I do not know what program to use on the computer (I have Linux on it; the smartphone wants Windows 8, but I don't have it).
My appearance agrees with M2, but I am not sure if any other is similar enough that I did not notice the difference. M2 Aqua, E4 are similar ... for a few more photos are not legible enough that I can't tell if any elements of appearance are different from mine or not.
It could use a key to mark Sony smartphones - just like there are keys to mark plants after the features of their construction (e.g. leaves, needles ...) - here you could have a "lens in the corner", "lens in the middle" ...; I don't know if it can be recognized by the USB identifier - is it unique for the hardware (and e.g. the same for all Android versions) or for software (and e.g. the same for all hardware with the same Android version).
Oh, I don't have (yet) a SIM card in this smartphone - will * # 06 # work? But it's probably irrelevant - apparently you can read the IMEI from the menu (only I need to have the equipment in hand).
And what does the SI number mean, does anyone know? I have the impression that I saw on the network a photo of a smartphone with the same SI number: 1286-0971 - only the further characters were different. Unfortunately, Uncle Google is not willing to advise on this matter (maybe he could advise me if I talked to him for a longer time, but at first he made little sense).
However, he sensibly answered the question about USB "0fce: e1aa" - answering that it was D2303 (I wrote about it in # 3) - this is only one source of information in which a large part (maybe even most) of Xperia models are not, so no I can rule out that several other models use the same USB identifier, only among those who provided the data, no one came across one of these other.
Added after 5 [hours] 10 [minutes]:
It was enough to select from the main menu Settings , scroll to the bottom of the list (one quick move up the screen), click Phone information , and read Model Number - is D2303. By the way, I saw that I have Android 5.1.1 with a 3.4.0 kernel, built on August 10, 2015. And next Phone information they give me a list from which I can choose Information about IMEI - these are the numbers that were in the last line on the "note", only here with no minuses (and it turned out that I typed one number wrong - small, it is difficult to see even under the magnifying glass).
Added after 11 [hours] 23 [minutes]:
From what I read in the instructions, this smartphone can be remotely blocked, and display a message on it, if you know its IMEI number (this is to be used in the event of its loss or theft, to inform the finder whom to give away, and not allow the thief to use ) - so you probably should not make it public. And I do not understand why someone here pushed me so hard that I would give this number here - after all, dishonest someone could use it to act to my detriment.
I also do not know why none of my colleagues gave me the easiest way to read information, what model it is - unfortunately I did not understand that this menu can be scrolled and that at the end it is possible to display information about the device, including the model name - only after reading the manual I know that.
✨ To identify the model of a Sony Xperia smartphone, users can connect the device to a computer, which may automatically detect the model. If the model number is not visible on the device, it can often be found on a slide-out sticky note or plastic plate that contains the serial number and other identifiers. The IMEI number can also be checked by dialing *#06# or through the phone's settings under "About phone." The specific model number, such as D2303, can be cross-referenced with online resources to confirm if it corresponds to the Xperia M2 or other similar models. Users noted that the camera specifications may vary, which can help in distinguishing between models.
TL;DR: To identify a Sony Xperia, open Settings > About phone; mine showed Android 5.1.1 and "Model Number — is D2303". If needed, view IMEI there and avoid sharing it. [Elektroda, jta, post #17349046]
Why it matters: This FAQ helps Xperia owners, buyers, and repair techs quickly confirm the exact model to choose correct parts, firmware, and accessories.
Power on, open Settings > About phone (sometimes called Phone information). Scroll to the bottom. Read Model number (e.g., D2303). In the same area, open Status to view IMEI if needed. This on-device path is the fastest and does not need a SIM card. [Elektroda, jta, post #17349046]
Is D2303 an Xperia M2? What do D2305 and D2306 mean?
Yes. The Xperia M2 user materials cover three variants: D2303, D2305, and D2306. These denote regional or connectivity versions of the same family. If your About phone shows D2303, it’s an M2 variant. “Three variants” is a useful cross-check when shopping parts or ROMs. [Elektroda, jta, post #17348805]
Where is the model code printed on the phone?
Look for a slide‑out label near the SIM or microSD slot. It typically lists IMEI and hardware identifiers for the phone. If that card is missing, the device may have been opened or serviced. In that case, use the on‑device menu or IMEI tools instead. [Elektroda, KRY5PIN, post #17348589]
How do I check the model using IMEI (*#06#) or a website?
Dial *#06# to display IMEI on the screen. Then enter it on an IMEI checker site to see the model reported. If the phone boots, you can also read IMEI under Settings > About phone > Status. “Check the model in the options” remains the quickest method. [Elektroda, tino2003, post #17348921]
Can a Windows PC auto-detect my Xperia model?
Yes. Connect the phone via USB to a Windows PC, such as Windows 7. The system installs drivers and often shows the model name in the device list or companion software. This helps if you cannot navigate the phone menus. [Elektroda, sSmall, post #17348142]
On Linux, can USB IDs help identify my Xperia?
Yes. Check lsusb for Vendor ID 0x0fce (Sony/Sony Ericsson) and the Product ID. In one case, 0x0fce:0xe1aa mapped to Xperia D2303. Cross‑reference IDs with known lists or forum reports to confirm. This method works even without a SIM card. [Elektroda, jta, post #17348259]
Where in the menu do I find IMEI, and should I share it?
Go to Settings > About phone > Status > IMEI information. Do not post your IMEI publicly. The thread notes remote‑lock and message features tied to IMEI; “you probably should not make it public.” Share it only with trusted service providers. [Elektroda, jta, post #17349046]
I can’t find “About phone.” Am I missing something?
Scroll all the way to the bottom of Settings. The poster resolved identification after realizing the list scrolls further. Tap About phone (or Phone information) to see Model number and IMEI options. This is the intended location on Xperia devices. [Elektroda, jta, post #17349046]
The pull‑out label is missing. What does that imply?
Missing identification cards often indicate the device was opened or serviced. You can still identify it through Settings > About phone, IMEI (*#06#), or by connecting to a PC. Treat missing labels as an edge case when buying used phones. [Elektroda, KRY5PIN, post #17348589]
How can I tell Xperia Z2 from M2 at a glance?
Camera placement differs in the referenced images. Z2 shows the rear camera lens in the corner, while the discussed unit had it centered, matching M2 visuals. Use camera position as a quick visual cue before confirming in software. [Elektroda, jta, post #17349046]
What do codes like SI: 1286‑0971 and 14W25 mean?
These appear on the pull‑out card alongside IMEI and S/N. The thread does not decode them and treats them as non‑model identifiers. To identify your phone, rely on About phone (Model number) or the IMEI‑based lookup instead. [Elektroda, jta, post #17348618]
Quick 3‑step: How do I show the model number on screen?
Open Settings.
Scroll to the bottom and tap About phone (Phone information).
It’s a letter followed by four digits. For example: D2303. As one expert put it, “The letter and 4 digits, that is the model code e.g. D2303.” Use that code when searching firmware or accessories. [Elektroda, sm233, post #17348666]
