Hello, I have a problem with the Astra h 1.8, 125km. I have it for a few days, I went on a trip of 600km, after some 400 the orange oil lamp lit up, so I bought and added 0.5 liters. After driving another 100, it caught fire one more time and again I poured 0.5 liter. At a standstill and the engine warmed, I gassed and did not smoke, while as stopped 4h I started it again and kicked black at high speed. I would like to emphasize that before starting I checked the oil level and it was ok. The car runs on synthetic and gas. Year 2005, mileage of 175 thousand km.

Well, you really have a problem. Buy in 5-liter cans, it will be cheaper. The engine is flooded with a motorized driver or other specifics. But with a mileage of 0.5 million km (because you probably didn't believe in those 175,000 in a 13-year-old car) ....

The mileage is as described because of the vin check in Opel and its history is described there along with the mileage. Your answer adds nothing to the case ... I am asking for opinions of a person who can help me

The engine you have is extremely worn out (if not because of mileage, then because of overheating etc.). It is not normal for an engine with 170,000 mileage. consumed so much oil.

Hola hola dear colleagues. I can see that some of them have already issued a judgment on the engine. When did a friend change oil? What oil is this? Are there any leaks? Even small? As far as I know, Astra is very sensitive to oil quality. I had a case that I used to neglect oil change because of laziness. And I'm going on a long distance (450 km) and everything was good. The engine stops and after an hour I am starting and here is like an oil control lamp. Panic, etc. Linden condition - 1 line on the dipstick. Oh! He poured. Everything is ok. But I came to my home quickly to change the oil and since then neither decreases nor has no indicator. As for the mileage - I also bought astre h with a mileage of 39,000 km and Germany really cried as it sold. Really.

There was a cast synthesizer from castrol, but I haven't replaced it yet, so I bought some 700km. Now I gave him a lotus because I was the only one in the store. There is no leak. And what oil did you flood him?

    I found this statement
After dismantling the engine, the reason for excessive combustion of oil appeared: namely three-piece oil rings, so baked that they could not be moved. It turned out that the new rings are only three-piece for purchase in stores So I took the heads e and pistons for the appropriate workshop, the head for checking, and the rings for matching, but two-part. After the conversation and e I found out from the workshop owner that the Opel changed the rings into three-piece ones and that the height of the ring was reduced by only 0.5 mm. what I'm interested in. To my satisfaction this company had such rings on offer. The head turned out to be in excellent condition, only the rubber bands were replaced.

Hi, what is the color of the oil on the dipstick - in general if you had gasoline you know that it should be similar to the color poured from the banks if it is brown or black it should be replaced especially after a new purchase.
Two engines can take a little more engine oil through the installation.
Three is a very good engine, if not the best, with hydraulic regulation of the valves - I used to have opel and on route or in the city up to 110km / h zero oil consumption - route 130-140km / h in a thousand hours with revolutions around 4,000 / min even and 0.7 l I had to top up to 1l.
For a bit of work, go to the Opel forum and read what oil helps a little Opel in less consumption.
Make the route next time to 100-110km / h and check if there is still such high consumption, if you won't notice anything, do not do anything around the city, unless you spin it high at revs there should also be no loss on the bayonet

Hello, generally the color is brown. I overcame this route again only at a speed of 100-110 and not like the first page about 140 and also after a distance of about 450km the oil level light came on, so I added about 700ml. In total, I added 2 liters of synthetic oil on the 1200km route. He wants to take him on the 130km route at the weekend and I'll check how he will behave. I have read about oil and it is recommended to switch to 10w40 synthetic, e.g. motula

I wouldn't change 5w30 and I advised you to read about the manufacturer.
Well, but during a quiet ride after such kilometers traveled and refill in such quantity does not bode well - rings and sealants can chant.

But would you rule out a general overhaul of the engine? What cost of rings and sealants you write along with labor comes into play?

Replacing the rings alone is powdering the corpse. Since you are dismantling the motor anyway, you are doing a full review. Measuring shaft, bearing shells, cylinder strokes. Next pistons. Valves and guides. After full measurements, you can decide what to replace and what to leave.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around an Opel Astra H 1.8 with a reported oil consumption issue. The owner experienced the orange oil lamp illuminating after driving 400 km, necessitating the addition of 0.5 liters of oil multiple times during a 1200 km trip. Responses indicate that excessive oil consumption may be due to engine wear, possibly from overheating or poor oil quality. Recommendations include checking for oil leaks, considering the type of oil used, and potentially replacing worn components such as oil rings. Some participants suggest switching to a different oil grade (10W-40 synthetic) to mitigate consumption. The conversation also touches on the possibility of a complete engine overhaul if the problem persists.
