    Hello
As in the topic - HUAWEI P9 Lite PRA-LX1 software install failed 5%, reset and so on. I do not know more information about this phone or software. Someone gave it to me and I don't know how it was done, no key combination works to enter the bootloader, only when connected to a computer via usb it reaches 5% and does not display software install failed information, it only resets immediately. HiSuite does not see it at all.

How and where to start, and can it be saved at all?

This model is extremely cumbersome to upgrade. I had a hard time with him.
After connecting the power, it helps to press VolUP and Power or VolDown and Power, then you enter the bootloader menu.
Of course, USB doesn't work, and so does the upgrade.
I recorded the soft on the card, thus entered the bootloader and uploaded from the card.
Although something dawns on me that I had to transfer it in bootloader mode from the card to the phone's memory, but here I can just have memory "delusions".

After connecting the cable from the mains charger, the phone turns on by itself and resets over and over again, it does not respond to the vol up or vol down keys, to turn it off I have to disconnect the tape from the battery. Can you upload software to the card and fix it? And if it is possible, what soft and how?

Try to press VolUP and Power together at the time of reset. This, unfortunately, has to be felt. Press and hold.
Necessarily with power supply, otherwise, at least in my case, it did not respond.
As for the software, you have to search the internet, there are even original images.
I often use something from here: https://www.needrom.com/

Turn it off. Press Vol Down and connect the cable. The phone should enter the bootloader mode.

Buddy, did you solve your problem? The phone can be launched without a major problem, error at 5% is standard in Huawei phones, describe what stage you are at, then I will guide you further.

PS. To enable fastboot mode on this device, you need to turn it off and on with the Vol Down key pressed and the USB cable plugged into the port - a white screen will appear with a green Android stick in the middle.
    * The USB cable must be connected to the computer port! It cannot be a charger!

I have not solved it, the phone is somewhere there, in the evening I will try to look for it and I will come back to the topic again. I will check my colleague's method and speak up, thanks for the response.

We did not achieve the intended effect, but this is due to the lack of precision in my previous post.
When you connect the USB cable to the phone, do not hold the power button, only the Vol Down itself - the phone will turn itself on in fastboot mode.
Alternatively, you can reset the phone while it is switched on by holding only the Vol Down button and having the USB cable connected to the computer.
However, if you do not start the fastboot mode, then first look at the ribbon of side buttons - maybe it is damaged and the phone does not respond to the Volume buttons (I recently had such a phone "on the desk" - the power button worked, Volume up too, and Volume Down not - the MB connecting ribbon was mechanically damaged as a result of an earlier repair). You already have the flap disassembled, so it will be easier. :)

We are interested in this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkWSDlrLmns (the model is different, but the procedure is the same).
When you get to this stage, write me if the information in the lower part is "Phone Locked" - because if so, you will need to unlock the bootloader (I will tell you how to proceed).

PS. Are you able to invest 8 Euro to repair this phone? (this is the cost of a one-time software license that will allow you to put the phone on its feet).
Possibly as an alternative: are you able to send it to me for repair (I have a bit far to Nysa, so I will not come), but if you are in Krakow, we can arrange a quick repair).

Don't worry, because there is a lot of P8 / P9 Lite 2017 on the market, which you will not use with any soft. They fall e.g. during the update, they do not accept any software, regardless of whether you have the bootloader locked or unlocked. After uploading the software to the chat (e.g. with the use of dc-phoenix), they also do not move.

In such cases, Huawei replaced the entire board, so ultimately, if there is still a warranty and documents, it is worth trying. It is true that the phone was disassembled, but it is still worth the trouble.

I have probably used all the possible combinations with holding down vol down while turning it on and nothing, so maybe something is wrong with this tape.
I got the phone from a friend who had already returned it to the service and they did nothing but remove the flip and stick a sticker on it. He was lying on a shelf with him for a long time and told me that if I was bored, I could try and keep him. I don't want to invest in it, thank you for the offer. My approach is that if I succeed, such a toy, I like to pick, I learn :)

Tell me how to check if the tape is damaged. I have a meter, I checked the transitions on the contacts. 3 contacts are connected to each other all the time, 1 is not connected to any of them at all. I don't know how it works.

I haven't experienced such a PRA-L11 / PRA-L31 / PRA-LX1 yet, but only this model was put on my feet / processed over 100 pieces. If you have one such piece, send it, I will be happy to take on it. If you succeed, you will get it from me alive as a gift. I already had Huawei phones in a state where people wrote on forums that I could make a paperweight out of them - they all stood up. Mostly it was a matter of experience, knowledge, stubbornness, and time :) - or maybe just luck. ;)

PS. In my life I have worked in authorized services of various manufacturers. Believe me, the fact that Huawei exchanges motherboards in such cases is not an argument for me :)

Handheld multimeter and continuity tester - if you do not have a single path, you probably have the same situation as I did last time - Volume Down does not work = you will not start fastboot mode. Try to start the phone with the Volume Up button and hold it until you enter the recovery menu. In Huawei, there are usually 3 options and you can walk up / down on them just using both volume buttons. You will check if they work - I checked the buttons exactly like this without taking the phone apart.
Good luck and let me know about the effects.

PS. The 8 EUR mentioned above is a 24h license for one phone call to Phoenix, but the program itself, without even the basic know-how, will be of little use.
If you do not want to invest in it, you can send it to me, I will fight the topic. If you manage to pick it up, you will pay for the return shipment and you will have a working phone. I do not urge you, but if you need to, I will be happy to help.

I put it together, as in the video of the test with vol ui vol down pressed, before connecting to the USB cable to the computer, there is no reaction, installing update 5% is displayed and it hangs. After about 3-4 minutes it resets and goes back to the same, I kept holding the button until the reset and restart itself and nothing.

On battery power, another two attempts with vol down and vol up - it also happens that installing update is displayed, it reaches 5%, but here a red exclamation mark pops up after that, software install failed ...
Software Installation Failure at 5% on HUAWEI P9 Lite PRA-LX1: Seeking Guidance

... what is not under the cable resets itself there. Here, by pressing vol up or down while pressing reboot, the display returns to the same. I also remind you to turn it off completely, I have to disconnect the tape from the battery.
Maybe this volume tape is completely damaged, I don't know what to think. I will be in town, by the way, I will give it to the site again, but another one, I'll see what they say.

    You wrote: "I haven't experienced such PRA-L11 / PRA-L31 / PRA-LX1 yet" - what's strange about mine?

If I remember correctly, the official motto (dc phoenix and the rest of the software, which works on the same principle - e.g. from Furious) is that if the phone does not wake up after uploading board software, then the problem is not on the software's side. I don't have the phone for a long time, I fought with it for a good week checking different versions of the software, it always ended similarly. From what I remember, he returned to the customer and the authorized service replaced the disc with a new one. History - if you can call it that, you can read it here .

Apparently so, because they have to follow the procedures and if the manufacturer recommends replacing the disc, they do it too. However, it would be strange that they would give the client a new CD for free if it were just problem with soft.

I am not saying that this art cannot be repaired. My experience shows that in some cases the problem is not choosing and uploading the right software. I follow the topic, because I'm curious what will come of it, and maybe I'll learn something new ;-)

It should be enough to turn off / disconnect the battery, reconnect it (wait 10-15 seconds) and connect the phone to the computer with the just vol- to start fastboot mode. Holding both keys starts the firmware update mode, which is what you see, which in turn waits for data from the PC, and if it does not wait, it restarts after a while.

No wonder there is on your phone, except that we can't start fastboot mode :)
Replace your button ribbon and I'm guessing the Volume buttons will start working. If you want to do it on an external website, that's your business, but I encourage you to do it yourself - no philosophy, you can do it.
    Anyway:
    a) turn on the phone with VolumeDown and connected USB cable = fastboot
    b) turning on the phone with VolumeUp = recovery mode
    c) turning on the phone with VolumeUP + VolumeDown - force reflash via memory card. You have to be careful with this, because we do any reflash (SD, USB, DC_Phoenix, FirmwareFinder) only when we know what soft is in the device, otherwise we can run into trouble.
The plan for you: bring your phone to a form in which you can turn on fastboot mode. When it's going to be OK, call us, we'll cover the topic together, because I had a lot of such models with 5% error in my hands and it ended positively. Most likely, someone tried to upload the wrong version of the software to your phone, but certainly not after OTA, not necessarily from the card. My guess is that either via USB (less likely) or via the FirmwareFinder apk (familiar topic - everyone wants to update their software, but they don't always choose the right one and then it's crying). We won't find out now, though it doesn't really matter anymore. Bring the hardware to work (IMHO it gives the bone for now) and we will work with the soft.

    @blahfff
I have been sitting at Huawei for a long time and I have really changed a lot of them - these devices are not as pleasant to reflesh as Samsung, Sony, LG or HTC, but by trial and error you can understand how to put them on your feet, it only takes a little time to get into find this soft mess. The forums are full of contradictory and sometimes untrue information, what's more, the same is in the documentation attached to the official updates (and those for older models could be downloaded from the official Huaweia servers with the official manual for uploading via SD - which ended differently :) It is not without a reason that Huawei published one model on its website. the official roll-back procedure with the appropriate soft, which allowed to downgrade Android one version lower, because, for example, BT did not work.
Believe it or not, I did not have a software release from Huawei after a failed update, debranding, roll-back, decustomization, etc., which I could not fix, and I really played with many models. Some models go blocky (how much blood has damaged me one Huawei Mate 10 Lite RNE-L21 you would not believe it, but I refused and after 3 days of trials and tests I saved him. More on principle, because the lost time will never be returned to me :) ) How many words commonly considered offensive I threw into space, only I know.
Regarding the approach of more or less authorized websites - I would tell you some life stories one day, you would not know whether to cry or laugh. It's not that authorized = the smartest and most experienced. And if I added that some of the authorized services I know derive some of their knowledge from the Internet, would you believe me? You better believe ;)

PS. Gentlemen, the end of the OFF-top. I feel that we will put this Huawei on its feet together ;)

Ok, I'll take a chance and buy this tape, because maybe it's about it, how to have fun is to have fun. First I have to disassemble that one, I think it will come out over the top, then I will find one on the Allegro and order it, unless I do something about it :)
I am stubborn too, my stubbornness has limits, sometimes I would go back to computer problems after weeks, where previously I had been sitting for hours on it and in a few minutes it was possible to fix something. I fumble more with laptops and desktops, I got some old Samsung phones sometimes, but these were simple problems and easy to do by drawing knowledge from the Internet. Sometimes I deal with such matters as a hobby after work, I see you deal with my whole life, at least you have a big idea, since you are willing to help me and have patience, that's ok, we will try, but slowly, I will keep writing on how progress is going.

FAQ

TL;DR: On HUAWEI P9 Lite PRA‑LX1, the 5% update error is common; "It cannot be a charger!" Use a PC USB and hold Vol Down to enter fastboot, then continue recovery. This FAQ guides owners stuck at 5% on how to start and finish a safe fix. [Elektroda, Beerkoff, post #17532401]

Why it matters: It quickly maps the exact key combos, hardware checks, and a proven fix so you can recover without guesswork.

Quick Facts

How do I enter fastboot mode on a HUAWEI P9 Lite PRA‑LX1?

Use this 3‑step sequence:
  1. Power off the phone.
  2. Hold Volume Down (do not press Power).
  3. Plug a USB cable into a computer; wait for the white fastboot screen. “It cannot be a charger!” Use a PC USB port. If the phone is on, keep holding Volume Down and insert the USB cable to trigger fastboot. [Elektroda, Beerkoff, post #17532401]

Why does “Installing update” stop at 5% and reboot or show a red exclamation?

That screen is the forced update/dload mode, often entered by holding both volume keys. It waits for data from a PC or SD package. Without a valid package, it stalls at 5% and reboots. On battery, you may then see a red exclamation and Software install failed. Disconnect the battery briefly, reconnect, then try fastboot with only Volume Down and a PC USB connection. [Elektroda, blahfff, post #17537956]

HiSuite doesn’t detect my phone. Is that expected in this state?

Yes. In the reported case, HiSuite did not see the device during the 5% loop. Reach fastboot or recovery first for reliable connections. Prioritize the hardware key sequence to enter a service mode before using PC software. [Elektroda, ciaka83, post #17406353]

Volume Down seems dead. How can I confirm and what should I do?

Boot to recovery by holding Volume Up at power on. Use the volume keys to navigate the menu. If Volume Down does not move selection, the side‑key flex is faulty. A continuity check with a multimeter can confirm an open trace. “Volume Down does not work = you will not start fastboot mode.” Replace the side‑key ribbon, then retry fastboot. [Elektroda, Beerkoff, post #17537512]

What ultimately fixed the device in this thread?

Replacing the side buttons ribbon cable restored the volume keys. After replacement, performing Wipe data/Factory reset completed recovery. The phone then booted normally. If your symptoms match, replace the ribbon before complex flashing attempts. [Elektroda, ciaka83, post #17590454]

Can I force a reflash from an SD card, and when should I use it?

Yes. Holding Volume Up + Volume Down at power on triggers a forced SD‑card reflash (dload). Use only the exact firmware for your model and region. Flashing a mismatched build can worsen issues. Prefer entering fastboot first to read device info, then choose a matching package. [Elektroda, Beerkoff, post #17538158]

Can I use a wall charger to trigger fastboot?

No. Fastboot requires a USB connection to a computer. “It cannot be a charger!” Use only a PC USB port. Hold Volume Down, insert the cable, and wait for the white fastboot screen with the green Android. [Elektroda, Beerkoff, post #17532401]

How much does DC‑Phoenix cost, and should I buy it for this?

A 24‑hour license costs about 8 EUR. The tool targets advanced flashing tasks and requires know‑how. For the 5% scenario here, replacing the side‑key ribbon and using recovery was sufficient. Consider DC‑Phoenix only after hardware and basic modes work. [Elektroda, Beerkoff, post #17537512]

What if flashing still fails even with correct firmware?

There are edge cases. Some P8/P9 Lite 2017 units refuse all software, even with unlocked bootloaders and board‑level tools. Authorized service replaced the mainboard in such cases. If you have documents and warranty, pursue service options first. [Elektroda, blahfff, post #17537129]

Do I need to unlock the bootloader for this repair?

If fastboot shows “Phone Locked,” unlocking may be required for certain flash steps. First, reach fastboot and check bottom‑screen status. You can still enter fastboot without unlocking using Volume Down and a PC USB cable. [Elektroda, Beerkoff, post #17537027]

The phone keeps rebooting when charging. How can I switch it off?

If key combos fail, disconnect the battery flex to force a shutdown. Reconnect the battery, then perform the fastboot entry with only Volume Down and a PC USB cable. Avoid triggering the two‑key update loop again. [Elektroda, blahfff, post #17537956]

Is the 5% update failure common on Huawei devices?

Yes. A technician notes the 5% install error is standard on Huawei devices. Treat it as a mode indicator, not a brick. Use the correct key sequence and a PC USB port to proceed. [Elektroda, Beerkoff, post #17532401]

What are my chances of success with a DIY recovery?

Good if the side‑key ribbon is faulty and replaced. One specialist reported handling over 100 PRA‑L11/L31/LX1 devices successfully. Restore Volume Down first, then use fastboot or recovery to finish. Method and persistence matter. [Elektroda, Beerkoff, post #17537512]

Does flashing from an SD card help when USB is unreliable?

Yes. A user placed firmware on a microSD, entered the bootloader, and flashed from the card when USB upgrades failed. Prepare the proper dload package on the card, then start the card update mode with the hardware keys. [Elektroda, gregor_pn, post #17406412]

Why should I avoid random firmware, like via FirmwareFinder?

Wrong builds trigger the 5% stall. Reflash only when you know exactly which software matches your device. Enable fastboot, read identifiers, and choose the correct package before flashing. Avoid casual third‑party app updates. [Elektroda, Beerkoff, post #17538158]

Which side‑key ribbon should I buy if the part number differs?

Buy a side‑key ribbon compatible with your exact PRA‑LX1 variant. In this case, replacing the ribbon solved the issue and enabled recovery. Match the part to your model to avoid connector or length mismatches. [Elektroda, ciaka83, post #17590454]
