    Hi everyone.

Yesterday morning I moved to another city and today I connected the computer with a traditional cable to the Arris TG2492S router. The computer initially tried to identify the network and ended there. Network diagnostics showed such a beautiful message Ethernet adapter does not have the correct IP configuration I searched the internet back and forth. I tried all the ways and still the same. Anyone know a way to solve this problem? Thanks in advance for your help.

In the computer, set the Automatic IP instead of a fixed one, two - the router to what is connected - was there? It may have MAC filtering enabled.

How do you know that the internet access service is active on this device?

Is the cable card installed correctly? Have you checked in the device manager?

The situation looks like this. I did reinstall the network card drivers and it did not help. I was typing commands at the command prompt, I tried to enter ip manually, change to automatic ip and it did not work, still unidentified network

Did you check by connecting the cable to other ports? Who has access to the router configuration?

I pinned it. I unplugged the router for 30 seconds from the power and stuff, and who has access to the configuration, I have no clue. The roommate on tour will be back on Friday and the roommate doesn't know what I'm saying to her. I was looking for an option to log into the router by typing 192.168.0.1 in the browser but it did not work

Step one - checking the physical connection
First, check the physical connection between the computer and the modem. Go to Control Panel \ Network and Internet \ Network connections right-click on the network card checking: network card status (the card should be enabled), then connection status. Check if you will have the specified speed in the connection parameters. This will confirm the correct connection with the modem. In case the network cable is disconnected or the 'status' option is greyed out, it indicates a problem with the physical connection. In this case, check the cable, plug it into a different port on the router.

If you are connected to the modem, but the computer has no IP addressing, check: if another router is connected to the modem. Often the modems are switched to the bridge mode and another router providing the WiFi service may be connected behind the Arris modem. Then the computer should be connected to the second modem. If there is no other device connected to the modem, it is necessary to check the computer's network settings.

Step two - trying to set up static addressing and connecting to the modem via LAN:
If the computer does not have an IP address, connect via WiFi. You can use the phone and the application (when searching for an application, enter: show ip address), which will display the address that your WiFi connected device has received. Record the address, netmask, gateway, and DNS address. Then set these parameters on your device by changing the last value of the ip address (eg if the device had the address 192.168.0.2/255.255.255.0 then set it eg 192.168.0.12). After setting the correct parameters, check if your computer 'sees' the router. You can check it by running the command 'cmd' and then in the console window by issuing the command 'ping gateway_address' (gateway_address - it is in the wifi connection parameters). If you get answers after issuing the ping command, you have a cable connection to the modem.
The next step will be to check the Internet connection (as long as the modem responded to the previous ping attempt). In the 'cmd' window, issue the command 'ping 212.77.98.9'. If you receive:
    - no answer - means no internet connection
    - answer - the internet works fine

Step three - connecting to the modem via WiFi
The Arris modem has the following default parameters related to access to the management panel. After connecting to WiFi, open the browser and enter http: // gateway_address (see the description from point 2 where to get information about addressing) and enter the login details below. The default url for web access is http: // 192.168.0.1

    Username: admin
    Password: password

If it is not possible to log into the modem, check the stickers on the modem - modems dedicated to operators often have different non-standard passwords for the web panel. After logging in to gui, you will check the modem settings - check if there is no mac-address filtering on the LAN or if the LAN ports are not turned off.

    Step four - factory reset
If all other options fail, find the reset button on the modem. Hold it for a few seconds - it will restart the device settings to the factory parameters (defined by default by the service provider). Factory reset usually helps, but expect you to lose any individual settings.

The problem was trivial. In the router, two LAN cables were plugged into two ports, at least that's what I thought. I disconnected them to check where they lead and it turned out that it was one cable plugged into two ports. Why such a procedure I have no idea. After unplugging this cable, the internet works .... thanks for helping everyone.

Topic summary

The user experienced an issue with their Ethernet adapter displaying the message "does not have a valid IP configuration" after moving to a new city and connecting to an Arris TG2492S router. Despite setting the IP to automatic and confirming that Wi-Fi was functioning, the Ethernet connection remained unidentified. Suggestions included checking the physical connection, ensuring the network card was properly installed, and verifying router settings. The user later discovered that a single cable was incorrectly plugged into two ports on the router, which was the root cause of the problem. After correcting the connection, the internet functioned properly.
