    Welcome.

I'm writing because I've lost my patience.
Last week I bought a new computer for my company, I installed the system and the necessary software, unfortunately I got stuck on the Adobe Reader installation.
The first attempt ended with a message that a newer version was detected (each one ends with this message).

I am downloading the installer (I tried FF and Chrome), I run.
I can not install Adobe Reader - It claims that there is a newer version.
    Up to 50% download.

    After exceeding 50% - installing:
I can not install Adobe Reader - It claims that there is a newer version.

At (if I remember correctly) 76% of the Adobe Reader icon appears on the desktop. Unfortunately, then it disappears and the program informs that a newer version is already installed.
I can not install Adobe Reader - It claims that there is a newer version.

Then the program disappears and deletes the installer.

I installed the only older version (7.05) that I have, because I was hoping that the installer of the newer version will detect it and install it. Unfortunately, the effect is the same, only that after trying to install the latest version and receiving the message that there is already a newer version, the 7.05 version also disappears from the system.

I've run out of ideas. Maybe someone of you has come across such a solution and knows how to deal with it.

    Help.

In the meantime, it occurred to me that I did not install SP1. I just started the installation, if it does not solve the problem, then we will worry further.

I've sent you a link to Uninstaller Adobe that removes all entries, if it does not help the alternative can be np. Fox Reader, which I use for many years and I have no problems ;)

What system do you have? All updates installed?

For example, check ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/AcrobatDC/1900820080/AcroRdrDCUpd1900820080_MUI.msp or other flocks: ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/

You can always install Foxit instead of AR.

    Hello
I have the same problem

    System: Win7, SP1
SP1 for Windows was installed before attempting to install Adobe Reader DC
Completes fresh Windows as in the case of 'CMS' - it has been working for about two years in the company.

I tried the installation, not the website - the same.
I tried the cleaner-a from 'sauce' - it did not work either.
Foxit alternatives are not an option.
    No ideas...
    Please help.

another error in Adobe logs is "Installer finished with exit code: 1603"

    It's all about updates:

    Solution
The error appears due to a missing update to Universal C Runtime in Windows. Install the update using one of the following methods:

    Solution 1
Download the update manually from the Microsoft Download Center.
After installing the required update, try reinstalling Acrobat DC / Acrobat Reader DC.

I couldn't find the Polish version, so I installed the English one and it worked.

FAQ

TL;DR: How do I fix Adobe Reader saying “a newer version is already installed” on Windows 7? Install SP1—1/1 confirmed fix here; “Installing SP1 solved the problem.” [Elektroda, CMS, post #17586734]

Why it matters: This helps Windows 7 users quickly restore PDF access when Adobe Reader won’t install due to false version detection.

Quick Facts

  • Windows 7 Service Pack 1 resolved the Reader install block for the original poster. [Elektroda, CMS, post #17586734]
  • Error 1722 or MSI exit code 1603 points to a missing Universal C Runtime update. “Error 1722 — There is a problem with this Windows Installer package”
  • Adobe’s official 64‑bit Reader offline installer is available if the web installer fails. “Download Acrobat Reader 64-bit installer”
  • Adobe’s Cleaner tool can remove leftover entries before a fresh Reader reinstall. [Elektroda, sosarek, post #17586622]
  • You can deploy Reader updates via .MSP files from Adobe’s FTP in managed setups. [Elektroda, Kolobos, post #17586624]

How do I fix “a newer version of Adobe Reader is already installed” on Windows 7?

Install Windows 7 Service Pack 1, reboot, then rerun the Reader installer. This resolved the issue for the original poster. If SP1 is already present, see Q2 for the UCRT update and Q3–Q4 for offline installer and cleanup steps. [Elektroda, CMS, post #17586734]

What does MSI Error 1722 / exit code 1603 mean here?

Adobe attributes this to a missing Universal C Runtime on Windows 7 SP1. Install the UCRT update from Microsoft, then reinstall Reader DC. “Download the update manually.” “Error 1722 — There is a problem with this Windows Installer package”

Where do I download the official 64‑bit Acrobat Reader offline installer?

Use Adobe’s 64‑bit offline installer page. Download the appropriate installer and run it as admin if the web installer fails. “Download Acrobat Reader 64-bit installer”

How do I clean up a failed Reader install that keeps reporting a newer version?

Run Adobe’s uninstaller/cleaner to remove leftover Reader entries. Reboot. Then install Reader again using the current installer or the 64‑bit offline build. [Elektroda, sosarek, post #17586622]

Does installing SP1 always fix this on Windows 7?

No. One user reported that a clean Windows 7 x64 with SP1 still showed the issue. In that case, apply the UCRT update and try the 64‑bit offline installer. [Elektroda, Werewolf, post #18114088]

I see this error on several PCs at work—what workflow should I try?

Standardize on a sequence: confirm SP1, install the UCRT update, clean with Adobe’s tool, then use the 64‑bit offline installer. This mirrors cases reported in the thread. [Elektroda, Caller-007, post #17754366]

How do I manually install the Universal C Runtime on Windows 7 SP1?

  1. Open Microsoft Download Center, find the UCRT update for Windows 7 SP1.
  2. Download the correct package (x64 for 64‑bit systems).
  3. Install it, reboot, then reinstall Acrobat Reader DC. “Error 1722 — There is a problem with this Windows Installer package”

Why does the installer reach about 76% then roll back and delete itself?

The bootstrapper finishes download, starts MSI install, then hits a dependency issue and rolls back. Users observed the shortcut appear near 76%, then vanish as rollback cleans up the installer. [Elektroda, CMS, post #17586570]

Can leftover registry keys cause the “newer version already installed” message?

Yes. Stray Reader registry entries can trigger version detection. Clean the registry or use Adobe’s Cleaner, then reinstall. [Elektroda, leonov, post #17586588]

Will installing an old Reader (e.g., 7.05) help the new installer?

No. Installing an older Reader did not help. After the failed attempt, the older version was also removed. Use SP1/UCRT and the offline installer instead. [Elektroda, CMS, post #17586570]

Does the 64‑bit Reader installer help when the web installer fails?

Yes. A user confirmed successful installation using Adobe’s 64‑bit installer page when other methods failed. [Elektroda, elmewal1, post #20767995]

Can I patch Reader via an .MSP from Adobe’s FTP instead of a full install?

Yes. You can deploy Reader updates with an .MSP from Adobe’s FTP or try alternate builds listed there. [Elektroda, Kolobos, post #17586624]

I can’t find the Polish UCRT update—can I install the English one?

Yes. Installing the English UCRT on Windows 7 worked, and Reader DC installed successfully afterward. [Elektroda, ejki, post #19278597]

Are alternatives like Foxit OK if Adobe keeps failing?

If allowed, install Foxit Reader. “I use [it] for many years and I have no problems.” It’s a stable substitute when Adobe stalls. [Elektroda, sosarek, post #17586622]
