Which gas stove to choose - Vaillant or De Dietrich? Opinions, failure rate ...

Which gas boiler should I choose: Vaillant ecoTEC VC plus 206/5-5 with a 120 l tank or De Dietrich MCR3 PLUS 24T with a 120 l tank, considering serviceability, failure rate, exchanger cleaning, and spare parts costs?

Choose the boiler that has the best service access in your area, because during the heating season fast repair matters more than brand reputation [#18084047][#18115948] If you compare these two specifically, several users lean toward De Dietrich because spare parts are cheaper and the boiler is quieter, but its silicon-aluminum exchanger is harder to clean well because the exchanger often has to be removed for proper service [#18084099][#18113605][#18308821] Vaillant is praised for easier exchanger cleaning and a brass-looking hydraulic block, but one user warns that condensate deposits can still clog the fin gaps and make cleaning difficult in heavy-condensation conditions [#18084099] In general, alu-silicon exchangers are described as more durable and less prone to scale, while stainless-steel exchangers tolerate combustion-side dirt better but scale more easily on the water side and have shorter service life [#18115948] The safest advice is to buy the model for which you have a good, competent service technician nearby and whose spare parts are affordable and easy to get [#18084047][#18115948][#18308821]

matrix55a I entered the subject very deeply because I myself have this dilemma.
I read a lot about it, including checkout for service, etc .... My opinion is, please don't be offended:

    what a rich cottage.

    1. You have a lot of Visman 200 ... this new line, the price is 11 thousand
    2. on average, Vailant De Ditrich and a few others, around 6-7 thousand
    3. little termet / imergas or other 3-4

Disregarding all the pros and cons, I answered a simple question whether when I buy Termet for 3.4 thousand it will work and whether I have to spend 6 thousand and up right now. I replied that I had money for this, that if I had to argue after a few years, it was bushes and new, and that I had a guarantee to use it, because you have to use it in most cases

The more money you have, the more you will be willing to spend the more, the quality / price ratio is of little importance, it's like buying butt rags because it falls out! ha ha ha but weaves it.

I will ask otherwise, if you have more money, do you have so much because you act extravagantly or rationally and you have more and more of it and you can afford more and more things.

    I have 200m2 and I take 20kW

you have 25-30 max, although I think that 25kW should be enough. The converter is about 600-800W per 1m2 = you have a max of 24kW

PS. Unless you have a woman who still wants 25 degrees. then take 30kW

Thank you @Riccoro for the answer. I do not take offense. Unfortunately, I do not have much money :-( . The necessity to replace the furnace is caused by the age of the parents and problems related to the fuel in the coal furnace. I have to think carefully about choosing a boiler. It is known that sometimes it is better to pay extra and have more peace in accordance with the principle of cheap is expensive. On the other hand, I read about the costs of post-warranty repairs of branded boilers and I am more and more inclined to buy a cheaper boiler. I have a DHW Termet myself, which was repaired several times. After all, it was more profitable to buy another used one (also Termet), which has been used by me for some time.

    Hello,
Do not buy Vaillant, I have a stove for about 7 years Eco TEC pro, it heats the floor in the cottage 65 m2 and hot water. Every year you have to do a service for almost PLN 400. Vaillant grants a service concession only for selected ones, so there is no competition and you need to use the company's service because others do not have access to parts and the gasket must be replaced with each periodic series. Moving on to the failure, after three years, the motherboard died when the apartment was empty for a year and a half and in the winter the pic was maintained at a temperature of 10 degrees, the cost of PLN 1000 plus labor and service about PLN 500. Currently, the pump has fallen, the cost of the service and diagnosis almost PLN 1600. The service technician bluntly said that the pumps were weak and after a few years they were failing. Considering that I am buying a leading brand, the top one is a FAILURE.

I am writing for posterity. I bought a Vaillant and I DO NOT RECOMMEND BUYING! The following is a justification: a

The problem is control. It can be controlled by thermostats:
    - on / off (the simplest, read on the net what it is),
    - modulating, but ONLY ORIGINAL Vaillant based on the eBus data bus. And here is the problem - Vaillant thermostats are ugly and smartphone applications that supposedly control them are terrible - read the reviews in the google play store or appstore.

All smart thermostats, e.g. Nest, Tado, Netatmo, or native Tech controllers are based on OpenTherm (not supported by Vaillant).
Of course, smart thermostats also work in on / off mode, but then it is not so smart anymore.

All in all, the Beetroot Vaillant forces you to use their brash thermostats ... all over Europe except in the Netherlands or Belgium, where it sells an adapter for OpenTherm. You can buy it, but if you install it in Poland, you will lose the warranty. Rude and beetroot!

I took up to about 200m2 Termet gold 25 kw house would be enough even 20kw but the money was the same. So 3.5 thousand. For the entire alteration before the holidays, I paid 6.3 thousand for everything full. It is now December consumption of gas turned on in 2021.
    1. October - 49m3
    2. November 149 m3
    December 262m3
For a month, the same central heating and domestic hot water as there was no sun (as there was domestic hot water from the PV installation)
The total cost of about PLN 1000 at home, technology of summer 2011 production, temperature 20.5 to 21 degrees
I am very pleased with the savings of the stove for the time being

I do not recommend De Dietrich. Tragic service. No parts available, I waited a month for them to import from China.... I waited a month for them to import parts from China. On top of that, waiting times are very long and service technicians feel like princes because there are not enough of them. It is better to pay extra but have the service in a few days and the parts on site.

I bought a Vaillant gas cooker a few years ago and I am totally unhappy with it. It was supposed to be a Mercedes and it is a total bubble. It stops working, then suddenly works. The service arrives differently too. A disaster.

Topic summary

✨ The discussion compares two gas boiler models: Vaillant ecoTEC VC plus 206/5-5 with a 120 l tank and De Dietrich MCR3 PLUS 24T with a 120 l hopper, focusing on reliability, maintenance, and cost-effectiveness. Vaillant features a stainless steel heat exchanger and reportedly easier cleaning, while De Dietrich uses a silicon-aluminum exchanger and a composite hydroblock, which may require exchanger removal for thorough cleaning, potentially increasing service costs. De Dietrich is noted for quieter operation and cheaper spare parts, but some users report long service delays and parts availability issues. Vaillant is considered a more established brand with a more complex service network but has been criticized for expensive repairs, proprietary thermostat compatibility issues, and pump failures. The discussion also touches on modulation ranges (4.3 kW vs. 5.7 kW), warranty terms, and the importance of local service availability. Alternative brands like Immergas Victrix EXA and Termet are mentioned, with mixed opinions on their performance and service. Some users recommend cascade boiler setups for reliability in guesthouse applications. Overall, the choice depends on local service support, maintenance preferences, and budget considerations, with De Dietrich favored for cost and quietness, and Vaillant for brand reputation and simpler exchanger cleaning.

FAQ

TL;DR: Spare parts for De Dietrich are “half the price of Vaillant” [Elektroda, zales.vip, post #18084099]; users report PLN 400/yr Vaillant service costs [Elektroda, pemir2, post #19258453] “Choose the one that is easier to service” [Elektroda, ewoo, post #18084047]

Why it matters: Service access and running costs quickly outweigh the upfront boiler price.

Quick Facts

• De Dietrich three-way valve ≈ PLN 250 vs Vaillant ≈ PLN 500 [Elektroda, zales.vip, post #18084099] • Annual routine service: De Dietrich ~PLN 200, Vaillant ~PLN 400 [Elektroda, raptus74, #18113801; Elektroda, pemir2, #19258453] • Minimum modulation: Immergas Tera 24 = 4.3 kW, Exa 24 = 5.7 kW [Elektroda, raptus74, post #18113591] • Heat-exchanger warranty: De Dietrich up to 7 years with correct water pH [Elektroda, zales.vip, post #18113680] • Cleaning effort: MCR3 needs exchanger removal; Vaillant VC plus cleans from top [Elektroda, zales.vip, post #18084099]

Which boiler has cheaper spare parts?

Forum service techs state De Dietrich consumables (valves, electrodes, gaskets) cost about 50 % of Vaillant equivalents [Elektroda, zales.vip, post #18084099]

Which model is quieter?

Multiple owners call the De Dietrich MCR3 “damn silent” [Elektroda, zales.vip, #18084099; Elektroda, Krawczykowy, #18088353]. Noise differences are negligible once the unit sits in a closed boiler room.

Does lower minimum modulation save gas?

Yes. Tera 24 drops to 4.3 kW, reducing per-radiator output by ~140 W versus 5.7 kW units [Elektroda, Ricorro, post #19166386] Lower output lets the burner stay in efficient condensing mode longer.

What edge-case failures have users reported?

Vaillant EcoTEC owners reported a main board failure at 3 years (PLN 1000) and a pump failure at 7 years (PLN 1600) [Elektroda, pemir2, post #19258453]

Should I install two smaller boilers instead of one large unit for a guesthouse?

A cascade of two 24 kW units adds redundancy; if one fails the other maintains reduced heat and hot water [Elektroda, zales.vip, post #18226352]

Can I use smart OpenTherm thermostats with Vaillant?

Not officially. Vaillant blocks OpenTherm and supports only its eBus controls; fitting third-party adapters voids warranty [Elektroda, lukasz.krk, post #19745570]

How much gas might a 200 m² house use with a budget boiler?

A 25 kW Termet consumed 262 m³ of gas in December at 20.5 °C indoor temperature [Elektroda, Ricorro, post #19800268]

3-step: How do technicians deep-clean an MCR3 exchanger?

  1. Isolate and drain boiler. 2. Remove front panel, disconnect pipes, lift exchanger out. 3. Rinse with low-pressure water, brush fins, re-fit with new gaskets [Elektroda, zales.vip, post #18084099]
