    Hello forum members

Me and my wife are Xiaomi Redmi 7A.

Everything is OK with me, but my wife has a problem with Wifi:

    - the network is visible in the wifi settings
    - home network is saved as "connected"
    - no wi-fi symbol
    - they don't want to download large files, e.g. updates, because there is no wifi
    - everything that is possible goes on cellular LTE, and it's a shame about the transfer, especially when you are at home

Can anyone help me with this topic?

    Hello

No, this is the case for any wifi network.

So he sees them, theoretically connects to the network, but actually "drives" on a cellular transfer.
I recognized the fact that when I turn off the transfer, the internet on the phone does not work - despite the "connection" to wifi.

And the wifi symbol is not displayed on the phone display.

Only when I enter the wifi settings, there is a "connected" field and the network is listed there.
But, of course, there is no actual connection.

Could it be some issue of the phone wifi module not working?

I have not tried and I have some concerns that most of the installed updates require active LTE ...
Well, more importantly - I have to dump everything on the PC ...

But I was able to download the update on the PC and I'm just putting it on the phone. We'll see. If that doesn't help, it's a reset tomorrow.

    EDIT

And it did not help ...

For starters, you can only reset the network settings, not the entire phone right away.
In the reset options, you should have this as one of your selections.

A common xiaomi problem, 99% of your router serves both 2.4 and 5Ghz as one network. Separate and the problem will go away as soon as you take away.

    Thank you for your response.
According to the manual, "frequency" is in the range of 2.4-2.4835GHz.
I will try to enter the router settings (when I find the TP-LINK manual).

But something is strange here - I have the same model, it connects to the router without any problems.
I also checked sharing as Hotspot from my phone to my wife (my hotspot, my wife's wifi). And it flashes.

    Edit:

I did as @ N0n3_ advised, i.e. I split the signal and it works :) Thank you very much for your help.
Only the Wi-Fi symbol is not on the wife's phone, but when I turn off mobile data, the internet flashes.

    Sorry, false start.
However, it doesn't work anymore ...
So wifi is in "connected" settings, but there is no symbol on the phone. And it doesn't really work ...

    Good day.

I will come back to the topic. When I was on vacation the wifi on my wife's phone worked with what was on the resort.

At home nichuchu. I don't know how to split the signal on my router. I was rummaging around in every possible option, but none of that.

    Please help.

    Good morning

Does any of the Forum members have contact with this TP-LINK and know how to set WI-FI (also called FIFI-RIFI) to make the net work on the phone?

    Hello!

I set the encryption to WPA instead of WEP, and it works :)

Thank you, topic to be closed.

Topic summary

✨ The discussion revolves around a Xiaomi Redmi 7A experiencing Wi-Fi connectivity issues, where the device shows as "connected" to the network but fails to access the internet. The user reports that the phone does not display the Wi-Fi symbol and defaults to cellular LTE for data. Various troubleshooting steps are suggested, including checking connections to other Wi-Fi networks, performing a factory reset, and resetting network settings. A common issue identified is the router's dual-band configuration, which can cause connectivity problems. The user successfully resolves the issue by separating the 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks on their TP-LINK router and changing the encryption from WEP to WPA, which restored Wi-Fi functionality.

FAQ

TL;DR: How do I fix Redmi 7A Wi‑Fi “connected/no internet”? In this thread, 1/1 devices were fixed by changing WEP to WPA—"I set the encryption to WPA instead of WEP, and it works." Also try SSID split and network reset. [Elektroda, lysy0800, post #18953660]

Why it matters: This FAQ helps Xiaomi Redmi 7A owners and TP‑Link users stop large downloads from using LTE and get stable home Wi‑Fi.

Quick Facts

  • Redmi 7A supports 802.11 b/g/n on 2.4 GHz only; it will not connect to 5 GHz‑only SSIDs. Xiaomi Redmi 7A - Full phone specifications
  • TP‑Link TL‑WR841N is a 2.4 GHz 802.11n router (up to 300 Mbps) that allows WEP/WPA/WPA2; choose WPA2‑PSK/AES for modern phones. TL-WR841N User Guide
  • In this case, using WEP caused “connected/no internet”; switching the router to WPA restored connectivity. [Elektroda, lysy0800, post #18953660]
  • For dual‑band routers, separating 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz SSIDs can resolve Xiaomi connection quirks. [Elektroda, Ordine, post #18651992]
  • MIUI may show “Connected” in settings without the Wi‑Fi status icon; the phone then uses LTE unless you disable mobile data. [Elektroda, lysy0800, post #18646630]

How do I fix Redmi 7A Wi‑Fi that says “connected” but downloads use LTE?

Change your router’s Wi‑Fi security from WEP to WPA/WPA2. That solved this exact Redmi 7A + TL‑WR841N case. How-To:
  1. Log into the router and open Wireless Security.
  2. Select WPA/WPA2‑PSK with AES, save, and reboot.
  3. On the phone, forget and rejoin the network.
Disable mobile data to verify the Wi‑Fi icon appears and traffic uses Wi‑Fi. [Elektroda, lysy0800, post #18953660]

Does splitting 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz SSIDs help with Xiaomi Wi‑Fi issues?

Yes, it can. Many Xiaomi phones behave better when 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz use different SSIDs. One helper put it plainly: “Separate and the problem will go away.” Name them differently, then connect the phone to the stable band. Note: Redmi 7A is 2.4 GHz only, so this tip is for dual‑band environments and other Xiaomi models. [Elektroda, Ordine, post #18651992]

Why does the Wi‑Fi icon disappear even though Settings shows “Connected”?

MIUI may mark the network as connected but hide the status icon if there’s no internet. The phone then keeps using LTE for data and large updates. Turn off mobile data to confirm. If nothing loads, fix the Wi‑Fi or router configuration before re‑enabling LTE. [Elektroda, lysy0800, post #18646630]

How do I reset network settings on Xiaomi without wiping data?

Use the phone’s reset options to reset only network settings. This clears Wi‑Fi, mobile, and Bluetooth configurations but leaves apps and files. It’s a lower‑risk first step before any factory reset. Find it under the reset menu and run it once after router changes, then reconnect to Wi‑Fi. [Elektroda, Karaczan, post #18649819]

Does the Redmi 7A support 5 GHz Wi‑Fi?

No. The Redmi 7A supports 2.4 GHz 802.11 b/g/n only. If your router broadcasts a 5 GHz‑only SSID, the phone will never see it. Ensure a 2.4 GHz SSID is enabled and visible, then connect the 7A to that network. Xiaomi Redmi 7A - Full phone specifications

It worked on vacation but fails at home — what does that imply?

If the phone worked on a resort network but not at home, focus on your home router. That pattern points to a configuration issue, such as security mode or SSID settings, rather than a hardware fault. Adjust the router first, then retest the phone. [Elektroda, lysy0800, post #18851725]

How do I switch a TP‑Link TL‑WR841N from WEP to WPA2/AES?

Open the router’s admin page, then go to Wireless > Wireless Security. Select WPA/WPA2‑Personal (PSK), choose AES (CCMP), set a strong passphrase, save, and reboot. Reconnect the phone to the updated SSID. These menus appear in the TL‑WR841N guide and are typical for this model’s firmware. TL-WR841N User Guide

How can I force updates to use Wi‑Fi while testing?

Temporarily disable mobile data to force all traffic over Wi‑Fi. If internet access stops after you turn off LTE, your Wi‑Fi lacks connectivity and needs router adjustments. Re‑enable mobile data only after Wi‑Fi is stable and the status icon appears. [Elektroda, lysy0800, post #18646630]

Should I try a factory reset to fix this?

Consider a factory reset only after trying router changes and a network settings reset. A helper asked about it during troubleshooting, but non‑destructive steps should come first. Back up the phone before any reset, then restore only necessary apps after testing Wi‑Fi. [Elektroda, sosarek, post #18649368]

Could the phone’s Wi‑Fi hardware be faulty?

Unlikely if it connects elsewhere. In this case, the phone worked on a resort network, pointing to a home router configuration issue. Tackle router settings like encryption and SSID before suspecting hardware. [Elektroda, lysy0800, post #18851725]

Which 2.4 GHz channels avoid overlap and interference?

Use channels 1, 6, or 11. They are the three non‑overlapping 20 MHz channels on 2.4 GHz. Setting your router to one of these reduces adjacent‑channel interference and often improves reliability for phones like the Redmi 7A. Channels 1, 6, and 11: Not Just a Good Idea

Updating MIUI didn’t help — what next?

In the thread, updating the phone did not resolve the issue. Continue with router‑side fixes, such as changing security mode, and run a network settings reset on the phone. Only consider a factory reset after these steps. [Elektroda, lysy0800, post #18649788]

Why avoid WEP with modern Android phones?

WEP is obsolete and weak. Security guidance recommends WPA2 with AES (CCMP) instead. Using WEP can cause connectivity problems and exposes your network to attacks. Switch the router to WPA2‑PSK/AES to align with current best practice and device expectations. NIST SP 800‑153: Guidelines for Securing WLANs

What router info should I share when asking for help?

Post screenshots of Wireless and Wireless Security settings. Helpers asked for that in this thread. Include SSID name (not the password), mode, channel, bandwidth, and encryption type. This context speeds accurate diagnosis and reduces guesswork. [Elektroda, sosarek, post #18882387]
