    Good morning.

I am planning to build a home automation based on a zigbee gateway and control with Home Assistant.

While there are quite a few actuators on the market I am having trouble finding an input module.
What I am concerned with is the ability to hardware check the status of the device.

Can anyone recommend me a device with digital inputs that can be operated via HA?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Do you already have a control panel or are you just planning to buy one?

I plan to buy, CC2531 Zigbee2MQTT and base everything on Home Assistant.
The automation will be in a house with an installation not suited to automation so a lot of the devices will be wireless.

The input module can communicate in any way I want, as long as it is possible to read the statuses.

I don't want to be tied down with equipment from one manufacturer and would also prefer a locally managed system rather than one managed from the cloud.
If anyone has any alternatives to the aforementioned gateway, I would be grateful for suggestions.

What states do you want to read?

    - e.g. Conbee II is worth considering.

States? Most logical, I want to check that specific tasks have been carried out.
I am planning to install some custom solutions and want to make sure that the door lock, for example, locks correctly.

I hadn't heard of conbee before but I've caught up now.
It looks like a more polished solution but probably supports fewer devices.

A very valid line of thinking. Automation without feedback (real state information) is generally pointless.
In my opinion you should look for a solution under this condition. As actuators with feedback inputs you have, for example, the ZM-10

    And what about compatibility?
Because supposedly zigbee but these ZM-10s only work according to the description with 2 types of gates.
But this is exactly the kind of solution I'm after.

I'm sticking with the solutions from ESP Home for now, but I'm looking further afield, so I'm closing the topic for now.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around finding a Zigbee input module compatible with Home Assistant for home automation. The user is looking for a device that can provide digital input feedback, particularly for tasks like confirming the locking of a door. Recommendations include the CC2531 Zigbee2MQTT gateway and the Conbee II, with a focus on locally managed systems rather than cloud-based solutions. The ZM-10 module is suggested for its feedback capabilities, although concerns about compatibility with specific gates are raised. A resource for Zigbee2MQTT compatible devices is provided, highlighting options like reed switches and keypads, as well as the use of ESPHome for custom solutions.
