UPC BOX 4K Decoder: Remote Control Issue - Can't Switch Programs or Open Menu

How can I fix a UPC BOX 4K remote that only changes volume but won’t switch channels or open the menu?

The remote is probably not paired correctly with the decoder, so try re-pairing it: hold the decoder’s power button and the remote’s pairing button/TV+0 combination for about 10 seconds, then hold POWER on the set-top box for 5 seconds [#19358214][#19575824][#19659643] Some users reported that the steps need to be done in the opposite order: first hold POWER on the decoder for 5 seconds, then hold the two remote buttons for 10 seconds [#20454966] If that still doesn’t work, try a hard reset by unplugging the decoder and holding its power button while reconnecting the cable for about 30 seconds [#20530833] Also check the batteries again and, if needed, clean the remote’s contacts/buttons with alcohol [#19358044][#20459059] If the remote still won’t behave normally, the final fix reported was a replacement remote from UPC [#19602402]

Hello, I have a problem with the UPC BOX 4K decoder. Yesterday everything worked, in the evening I turned off the TV, and this morning the remote control just stopped responding .... it changes the volume, but you can't switch programs or open the menu. The second remote from the TV works normally. I've already tried resetting the decoder and even factory resetting the TV. The hotline cannot be reached by phone, there are no free consultants, and I would like to turn on something other than the children's channel for Christmas... Maybe there are some solutions that I haven't considered, please help ?

What I'm going to say may seem a little ridiculous, but you tried replacing the batteries.

Hello. I don't know if I understood your problem correctly, but it seems that the remote control is not paired with the decoder. On page 8 of the manual, I found information that to pair the remote control with the set-top box, you must simultaneously press and hold the TV button and the number 0 for 10 seconds. After these 10 seconds, select the POWER button for 5 seconds. This is what the manual I found online says. Good luck.

I've seen the instructions, paired the remote a dozen times, it connects to the TV, but nothing but volume or mute completely won't turn on

It is not written anywhere, but this power button must be held down on the set-top box. It helped me :)

Hello, I have a similar problem with the fact that after turning off the TV and starting it on the remote control from the set-top box, the volume up and down and the power supply do not work. Channel switching and other keys work. Nothing works on the TV remote. After restarting the decoder and TV, everything returns to normal until the next time the TV is turned off. As if there was a problem with the Ale remote pairing function with the TV. I checked the pairing of the remote control with the decoder and everything is ok, I was looking for information on the website but unfortunately I did not find anything. Anybody had a similar problem?

Hi everyone. Today I got a new 4k box decoder and I have a problem with the remote control. The service technician started everything and the remote control worked normally, unfortunately after about 15 minutes the remote control stopped responding at all. Its LED is not lit, I checked the batteries (they are good). I tried to pair the remote control with the decoder but there is no reaction from the decoder, I reset the decoder to factory settings and nothing. It was as if the pilot had completely failed. For now, the only option is to control it with your phone

And the author tried to hit the remote hard on the table a few times to make it catch, I have jumbox decoders, and after hitting the remote on the table the remote started working.

Unfortunately, the brute force solution does not help either

Hello. I had the same problem. The white LED only flashed above the on/off button and the volume button worked. The manual said to hold down the number "0" button and the "Return to the program you were watching" button at the same time for 10 seconds and then the power button on the set-top box for 5 seconds. I did these steps but it didn't work.

Try the other way around? First press the power button for 5 seconds, then these 2 buttons on the remote control for 10 seconds (this will be exactly shown in the paper manual or displayed on the TV). It worked for me.

For me, it was enough to disassemble and clean the remote control with an alcohol swab

In my case, the remote control also stopped working, but not completely. After removing the battery and inserting it, I was able to click the remote control once. This way I was able to get to the remote control settings in the box and canceled the pairing of the remote control. I installed the remote control again and it works. 10 seconds. hold down the ok and -volume buttons. Tv Smart 4k box from jambox

Remote control with red circles around the TV and 0 buttons.
These 2 buttons together, the diode starts flashing for 10 seconds, it is best to do it from a distance of half a meter, then hold the switch on the decoder for 5 seconds. This happens when the batteries are weak or replaced, you need to reconnect the devices.

FAQ

TL;DR: Fix a UPC BOX 4K remote that only changes volume with a 10‑second pairing and 5‑second decoder power‑hold; “press and hold the TV button and 0 for 10 seconds.” For UPC BOX 4K owners wanting channels/menu back without support. [Elektroda, leszekpo59, post #19358214]

Why it matters: It quickly restores full control when your remote talks to the TV but not the UPC box.

Quick Facts

How do I fix a UPC BOX 4K remote that only changes volume?

Re-pair it to the decoder.
  1. Hold the two pairing buttons on the remote until the LED flashes (~10 seconds).
  2. Stand about 0.5 m from the box and point the remote at it.
  3. Hold the decoder’s power switch for 5 seconds to complete pairing. This often follows weak or replaced batteries, so you must reconnect devices. [Elektroda, rzezbim, post #21025780]

What exact buttons start pairing on the UPC BOX 4K remote?

Press and hold the TV button and 0 together for 10 seconds. Then hold the POWER button for 5 seconds to finish pairing. This sequence comes from the printed manual referenced in the thread. [Elektroda, leszekpo59, post #19358214]

Do I need to hold the decoder’s power button during pairing?

Yes. Hold the set‑top box power while the remote is in pairing mode. “This power button must be held down on the set‑top box. It helped me :)” This step is easy to miss and prevents channel/menu control from returning. [Elektroda, sekcja8, post #19575824]

The standard steps didn’t work—what next?

Try reversing the order. First hold the decoder’s power button for 5 seconds. Then hold the two remote buttons for 10 seconds to pair. A user confirmed the reversed order matched their manual or on‑screen prompt and worked when the usual sequence failed. [Elektroda, oliwia5545, post #20454966]

My remote’s LED never lights and nothing responds—what does that mean?

If the LED never lights and the decoder never reacts, the remote can be faulty. One user reported total failure minutes after installation, even with fresh batteries. Control via phone can bridge the gap while you arrange service. Request a replacement remote. [Elektroda, kkorcina, post #19965811]

Will UPC replace a faulty UPC 4K remote?

Yes. The original poster received a new remote from UPC after phone support, and everything worked correctly afterward. If pairing and resets fail, escalate to provider support and ask for a replacement. [Elektroda, infamousguy, post #19602402]

How do I hard reset the UPC 4K box if it won’t switch channels?

Use a power‑cycle reset.
  1. Unplug the box’s power cable.
  2. Press and hold the box’s power button while reconnecting power.
  3. Keep holding about 30 seconds until it reboots, then use the box button to select and hold 5 seconds to confirm. This restored channel control for a user. [Elektroda, koniewalo1234, post #20530833]

Can cleaning fix unresponsive remote buttons?

Yes. Open the remote and gently clean the key contacts with an alcohol swab. Dry, reassemble, and test. Grime or film can block proper contact. This simple cleaning revived a non‑responsive remote for a user. [Elektroda, sn2010, post #20459059]

After I power off the TV, volume and power stop working until restart—what’s the fix?

Re‑establish the link by repeating the pairing steps once. Power cycles or battery changes can drop the handshake, so reconnect the remote and decoder. Perform the 10‑second remote hold and the 5‑second decoder power hold to restore control. [Elektroda, rzezbim, post #21025780]

I only get one button press after reinserting batteries—how can I recover pairing?

Use that single press to open the box’s remote settings. Quickly unpair the remote, then re‑pair it. On similar Android 4K boxes (e.g., Jambox), holding OK + Volume‑Down for 10 seconds started pairing and restored control. [Elektroda, mario00prezes, post #20836306]

What’s the side button on the remote used for during pairing?

It can trigger pairing. Hold the decoder’s power button, then press the remote’s side button to initiate the link. This combination restored full control for a user when standard steps failed. [Elektroda, Varaneq, post #19659643]

Should I factory‑reset my TV to fix UPC remote issues?

No. The OP factory‑reset the TV and the problem remained. The issue is the UPC remote’s link to the decoder. Focus on re‑pairing the remote and resetting the decoder, not the TV. [Elektroda, infamousguy, post #19358014]

How close should I be to the decoder when pairing?

Aim for about half a meter with a clear line of sight. The remote’s LED should flash for about 10 seconds when pairing begins. Finish by holding the decoder’s power button for 5 seconds. [Elektroda, rzezbim, post #21025780]
