    Hi,
I am currently working abroad and would like to come to Poland more often - unfortunately, the employer looks reluctantly at such trips due to tax issues. I thought I would install Nord VPN on the router and then I could rather freely drop in from time to time for a week in the bosom of my homeland.

Could you recommend me a router on which I can easily configure Nord VPN (I already have an account, of course) or which will already have Nord VPN configured? As far as cash is concerned, let's say up to 500 PLN, but as if there is some miracle more expensive, and for some reason worth the price, I'd rather for the extra (for that peace of mind :) ).

At home I've been tinkering with something lately, but on an old router, I installed some firmware on the dd.... generally without success, the problem was with the login credentials: connection to the network was by login and password, and the connection type was something on P.... PP... I do not remember exactly.

Thank you very much for your help,
    Eric Clapton.

    Ubiquiti Edge Router

However, it's a matter of what you already have and what your Internet connection parameters are because, first of all, you may not be able to replace the operator's device with your router and, secondly, if you connect two routers in cascade (the operator's and your own) then nothing may work. VPN connections (and any slightly more advanced network service) strongly dislike multiple NAT.

Thanks for the answer. I have an RJ45 cable for output with the net - I see that this router is without WIFI - will it work for me such an arrangement:
cable I connect to this router - there I configure VPN with nord vpn and connect another router already with WIFI with a regular network cable?

Thanks in advance for your help!

But what kind of device do you have from the operator, possibly do you have a public IP address, because without this VPN may not work at all or work with problems.

Yes, but the additional device must work in access point mode and not router mode, meaning that you connect it to the LAN port. The WAN port on a device with WiFi DOES NOT have to be used. Here's a tutorial: https://www.tp-link.com/pl/support/faq/417/

Thanks a lot. With this AP clear - that is, normally from LAN to LAN I will connect.

I don't know exactly - because I would like to use this routeraz in 2 places: when we visit my house and the wife's house. At the wife's house may be harder - because as far as I know they have SIM card internet. In the sense that there is a router with a SIM card. So here I would have to do the same:

router with SIM --- > our router with network cable ---> router with WIFI (as AP with LAN->LAN)

connection between router with SIM and ours also like Access Point?

    I will read this guide :) .

Yes, just be sure to change the IP address and disable the DHCP server on the device with WiFi.

This is possible, however, you will need to change the WAN port settings each time (or you will need to have two configurations that you will upload interchangeably).

You'll only find out after testing if it works. Alternatively, before buying a router you can upload the OpenVPN client to your PC and test the connection.

There are two solutions. Either switch the LTE router to bridge mode and connect the UBQ to the WAN port, then there will be only one NAT at the operator and a better chance of VPN operation. You can not switch the LTE router into bridge mode but leave it as a router with NAT, the UBQ router here must also be connected to the WAN port. Unfortunately, with such a connection there are as many as two (or even three) times NAT is done (at the operator, on the LTE router and on the UBQ router). This can effectively hinder the operation of the VPN.

If you are targeting devices with WiFi. Then you can also look at Draytek. Very refined and stable, unfortunately they cost their own:

    Hey, it's still me! :)
it appears that probably the easiest way would be to have one router: with WLAN input (at my place in the block), SIM input (at my wife's) and with VPN. :)
I found something like this - what do you think about it, because I see that you are a bit in networks? :)

    https://voip.world/Teltonika-RUT950-Dual-SIM-LTE-Router-WLAN-OpenVPN

If it would be reasonably ok then I will buy. It's not about power and range, the most important thing for me is that it's possible to connect and that the VPN will laugh (I have a NordVPN account, but I guess it's just a matter of configuration in OpenVPN).... I would also take the wireless one there, well, but that would not solve the issue of VPN at the wife's...

    thanks again for your help!

Not a WLAN input (because it is otherwise Wi-Fi - Wireless LAN) and with a WAN input.

This router what you propose is in terms of LTE network electrosmash cat 4. Completely unsuitable for the current capabilities of the operators' transmitters. Speeds you will achieve on it tragic (yes, I know a lot of people still use such monuments :-) )
Otherwise, there will be work anyway - either change the configuration you change the SIM card.

Thanks a lot! I'm the one who is green, I would immediately buy thinking that good, because more expensive than a router for 100 zł. I have a question, because I'm already focusing only on these LTE (possibly I'll buy this EDGA, but that's later), because with LTE router in total I'll be able to work everywhere. What do you think about this:

    DrayTek Vigor 2620Ln

I guess even NordVPN is supported on it - a big advantage.... Thanks in advance!

    LTE 4G/3G Modem - Up to 150Mbps
Integrated LTE 4G/3G (Category 4) modem, with speeds up to 150Mbps Downstream and 50Mbps Upstream.
Compatible with EE, Vodafone, O2 and Three mobile networks and any MVNOs on those networks.
Benefits: High speed Mobile Broadband. Versatile Connectivity.
Also an old-school cat 4 modem.
If you want to select a decent LTE router and possibly an antenna, first of all you need to write what device you are currently using and know on what bands the operator transmits (in Poland there are bases with transmitters for this, abroad probably also but I do not know). You can check this by forcing a band on some routers and checking the signal parameters. Sometimes you can also check roughly the bands with some modern smartphone with Android and the NetMonster app.

    Added after 12 [minutes]:

There is something like this MIKROTIK ROUTERBOARD CHATEAU LTE12 (RBD53G-5HACD2HND-TC).
It has Ethernet WAN ports and LTE cat 12 modem, which is already quite reasonable. Mikrotik itself supports NordVPN.
Whether this particular model has a full RouterOS or somehow truncated I don't know, nor do I know how this model performs in practice. Generally with old Mikrotiks there were problems sometimes, now they seem to have removed the diseases of adolescence. You can always order from the online store for 14 days and possibly send it back.

Thanks again for your help. Currently at my in-laws they have internet from plusa and they are using a model: Huawei B315s-22 (something like this: https://routery.pl/?p=238).

I'll look for this Microtronic - may I find it then I'll solve all my problems! :)

    Thanks!

Akurat link from Plus is the last possible choice. Plus invests very little in the network and does not expand it on an ongoing basis due to which the results are often tragic. This B315 is also just a cat 4 router.
When you are at your in-laws, download the HuaCtrl app on your android. Log into the router from it and force specific bands (B1, B3, B7. B20). Give the forum the results of signal parameters measurements and speedtest from the evening hours for each band. Do the measurements for each of the four networks. You may find that you will be matched with an operator providing a much higher level of service.
Also give the location of your in-laws' house, then we will roughly check what capabilities the transmitters of each operator have.

    Hi,
I had to let you know how the problem was solved. I'll remind what I wanted:

    router:
    - with Ethernet WAN input,
    - with SIM input,
    - with VPN - preferably with Nord VPN configuration

    Finally I bought ASUS 4g-ac68u.

Finally everything worked! At my in-laws necik from the SIM card worked nicely - I just had to zupdate the software to make the VPN work using OpenVPN NordVPN configuration simple as a wire.

In my house necik with RJ45 input - also played and trumpeted.

LTE admittedly category 6, but for work purposes everything worked, which I wanted to achieve.

Thank you very much for your help!

Topic summary
