Building from scratch and obviously I want carpet for the bulk of my floor area… but this space is going to have a nook which doubles as my office and I don’t want carpet there. So here are my questions:

Acoustically, are there any disadvantages to me doing the entire floor with vinyl/laminate or similar and then laying down a huge area rug?

Is there any advantage to my tower speakers (Jamo S 807s) being positioned on the hard surface rather than the carpet? Thanks in advance!

It is best to place the loudspeakers on small stands. This way you can eliminate the floor covering issues. A slight elevation of the loudspeakers will also improve the reception, because the drivers will be at the level of the listener's ears. A carpet is a very friendly surface for the acoustics of the interior. Niewielki fragment twardego winylu nie powinien radykalnie pogorszyć akustyki pokoju.
