"LINE IN" is a universal audio input - a few mV. You can connect to it, for example, a tape recorder, cd-palyer, mp3-player or anything that sends an audio signal; I just have an additional audio input in the turret.
You CANNOT connect the signal that is intended for the loudspeakers - e.g. from another radio!

    ---- EDIT! ----
Line out? Is Line in? Because in the subject you ask about "out" and in the post you write "what is it for." entry ....: /

Line Out is a normal output to an external amplifier (or a tape recorder input).

    This is a signal output.
You can connect a device for this output, which will process this signal for you. For example: mixer, amplifier etc.

Line Out is the output to your amplifier or other equipment - not your speakers, as this output sends a very low power signal. It contains what is "flying" in the tower at the moment.

The volume of what is at this output does not (should at least) depend on the setting of the volume potentiometer

Topic summary

The discussion centers around the "Line Out" port on a tower, clarifying its function as an audio output. Users explain that the Line Out is designed to connect to external devices such as amplifiers, mixers, or recording equipment, rather than speakers, as it outputs a low power signal. It is emphasized that the volume from this output should not be affected by the main volume control of the tower. The conversation also distinguishes between Line Out and Line In, with a focus on the appropriate connections for audio processing.
