The charger outputs the correct voltage of 15V and the same error occurs on battery

    This 17" model based on
    - Intel Core 2 Duo T7700 (2.4 GHz, second-level cache 4 MB, FSB 800 MHz)
    - Intel PM965 Express chipset
    - NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 512 MB, with support for TurboCache technology up to 2303 MB (with 4048 MB RAM)

You need to look into the available SM based on the same PM965 chipset
There may be a problem with the power supply PCH or Nvidia graphics

Is free Maintenace Manual Qosmio G40
    - but no electrical schematics, then in 2007 Toshiba did not give them
    - and No *.bardview

    ... good luck

you probably have a short circuit in the line (1R05-P1V ) or a damaged PCH or ...?
The absence of SM makes it impossible to accurately determine " where ?
The motherboard is on your hands/table
    - you need to gradually disconnect the "receivers (1R05-P1V) " in this line

When you say (There may be a problem with the power supply PCH) you mean the power that is supplied to the PM965 might have a problem

edit : I found some components near the PM965 chipset that seem to be in the wrong place

    Not necessarily in PCH.
Look in the included SM under Tecra 11A (on the HM55 chipset)
    - mobo Toshiba Tecra A11 > (FHNSY1)
    - there is this voltage described as 1R05-P1V
    - look at what elements it is connected with

Mobo Qosmio G40 is orginal pcb from Toshiba ( FTUSY4)

Or chipset North or Nvidia chip

Unfortunately this is a very broad error, Toshiba services depot ... replace the motherboard
    * For starters, try if you do not help > restore or update the BIOS, there are no more options...

I can't get into the BIOS to update it or restore it. I don't know if I'm pressing the wrong key. I can only get to the boot menu but if I select something It says PCI Express error.

Forgot to update but the PCI Express error was the GPU failing.

The problem was caused by two components on the motherboard being out of place. After putting them back in, everything is working fine.

Topic summary

The Toshiba Qosmio G40 is experiencing a boot error indicated by code A2h, which signifies that the 1R05-P1V voltage is below 0.89V. Users have noted that the charger outputs the correct voltage of 15V, and the issue persists even when using the battery. Potential causes include a short circuit in the 1R05-P1V line, a damaged power supply (PCH), or issues with the Nvidia graphics chipset. The absence of a service manual complicates troubleshooting. One user identified misaligned components near the PM965 chipset, which, when corrected, allowed the laptop to power on but resulted in a PCI Express error. Further suggestions include checking connections related to the 1R05-P1V voltage and attempting to restore or update the BIOS, although access to the BIOS is currently hindered by the PCI Express error.
