Hi all. Hope someone can please help me with a situation where a concrete mixer broke my mother's printer... Long story short, some construction people working at my parent's house fixing some things brought in a concrete mixer that would take the whole house's power down when turned on.... After many attempts with the same result (mains RCDs would aggressively trip instantly...), the mixer was taken back to get fixed. It turned out, from what they told me, there was a short in it, that's why the breakers would trip.... So after a few days my old father needed to print some stuff and the printer, an old (everything here is old....) Brother HL-3140CW would give a 09 error, which after some research means irregular power supply.... Pretty sure it was the concrete mixer was the cause as this printer has been here forever without major problems so it would be too much of a coincidence... I also suspect the power supply could still be ok and it was just unstable mains, as the concrete mixer was constantly shutting it down as the workers tried to turn it on...
Anyway, I already found the service manual and I think my best shot, before changing the low supply voltage board, would be to just reset the "irregular power supply detection counter"...

After reading parts of the service manual I realized some software and files are nowhere to be found.... (lost long hours after it....):
    - FILEDG32.EXE
    - Brother maintenance USB printer driver MaintenanceDriver.zip
    - SQWAVE.PJL file

I did manage to find filedg32.exe on some file sharing site, assuming it doesn't contain a virus....
Also found the maintenance driver but my antivirus would constantly attack and delete it, so that's either a false positive or probably a virus...
    Couldn't find sqwave.pjl anywhere....
The rest I can manage, I'll probably install a virtual machine and get some Windows XP version on it just to try to fix the printer...
So please, if anyone has or knows someone that has these files, please post here...
    Thank you!
AI: Just to be sure, what operating system and computer hardware are you planning to use for running the maintenance software and drivers (e.g., Windows XP on a VM, or something else)?
Planning on using a VM with Windows XP
AI: Have you already tried any other troubleshooting steps with the printer itself, like power cycling, factory reset, or plugging it into a different power outlet, or is this your first attempt at fixing it?
Yes, tried power cycling and a reset

The content of the topic looks like an introduction to sci-fi doctoring.... What about the hens, a damaged concrete mixer didn't cause a drop in egg laying?....
If there is a problem with the power supply (which we don't know) then you need to measure voltage stability, ripple. If you don't have the means to do this (multimeter and oscilloscope) then you should buy a working power supply from fellow members of this forum, there are 2 specialists here who know the Brother subject inside out and have a technical background.
I can't remember for this model of printer - if there is a relay in the power supply then it would be a good idea to check its contact, it is possible that it has burned out.
The motherboard could also be damaged. If you push whatever you can find on the internet with a name that suits you, you won't even see the content on the LCD.

    At your own risk:

    Won't I also need the "MaintenanceDriver.zip"?
By the way, thanks a lot for posting that. The hens are ok for far :)

Thanks. But right now I'm missing the driver that they call "MaintenanceDriver.zip". The link you posted only has end user drivers.

Thanks. For now I just wanted to reset the counter... I'll contact you if I can't find the MaintenanceDriver.zip.

I suppose you could also have a faulty power supply, if the hardware doesn't want to spit out a single piece of paper then the 'circuit' responsible for powering the oven for example could be lying. A bug I haven't encountered yet, but it doesn't look like software itself to me.

Author, are you doing something with the printer or are you on holiday? ... Have you checked (if there is one) the relay giving power to the lamp in the fuser? If there is no relay and the voltage is supplied by a triac then check the soldering and the heating lamp itself in the fuser (if it is not burnt out). There is also a thermal fuse in the fuser, maybe it tripped and now it has a break, so take the meter in your hands and measure - the lamp should have a transition, the thermal fuse should have a transition too, there should be supply voltage on the lamp pins (of course, only during the one moment when the printer starts and tests, among others, the heater in the fuser, and during taking the print). The electronic circuit is very simple.

In the attachment you have the controller you are looking for. But first, do what you are advised here about checking the electronics and not insist on YT videos about resetting....

The printer is sitting at my parents' house... Thank you so much, I'll give it a try at your suggestions and reply back when I get to do it...

Topic summary

A Brother HL-3140CW printer displayed a 09 error indicating irregular power supply after a concrete mixer caused repeated mains RCD trips at a residence. The concrete mixer had a short circuit that destabilized the power, likely damaging the printer’s power supply or motherboard. Suggested diagnostics include measuring voltage stability and ripple with a multimeter or oscilloscope, checking for a burned relay contact in the printer’s power supply, and considering motherboard damage. Replacement power supplies may be sourced from forum specialists. Printer drivers are available from Brother’s official support site. Requests for full maintenance software and the SQWAVE.PJL file were also noted.
